Forest Pavilion
竹意阁
The idea of Son La restaurant is the integration with its surrounding environment. Using bamboos as the main structural elements, each columns are made up of 4 bamboos bundled together, up to 8m high. hence the keyword I retrieve from this architecture is Forest. which, essentially about the proportion of space to its height.
Therefore in Forest Pavilion, the emphasis is on the vertical elements. With 4 main bundled columns as the main structural support at the centre, and 12 side columns as the secondary support, two pockets of spaces are created. Users will experience a difference in the level of height between the entrance to the platform in the middle. While ‘Forest’ is the keyword, the method on how the whole structure framework built up is through the idea of lattice. Bringing the same idea into Forest Pavilion, this method are used between the trusses and the columns.Whereas a smaller scale of latticework can be seen on the pre-fab facade panels. 6

Little Wedge Place
@ changi promenade
Situated at the open landscape along Changi Point Promenade, Little Wedge Place is intended as a leisure and entertainment spot for families, the young children, as well as both foreign and local visitors to hang around after their activites.
20
With a total area of 650 sqm, Little Wedge Place consists of a multipurpose space, a reception or information counter, a small admin office with meeting spaces, several children play zones, exhibition gallery, a food kiosk, viewing decks.
21
The building is positioned and oriented to ensure that the existing visual porosity from Little Island Brewey is not being blocked away. Starting with a small ramp, the area then gradually expands to the kiosk, the mini patio and the sun rise deck, before leading up into the main block of building.
22
As the idea is to bring the full frontage of the beautiful views of Changi Village, the front are kept visually open for the maximum views. Then in contrast, the facade at the back (facing carpark) are more densely cladded with timber louvres, to keep this notion of security. Also for more technical reasons such as keeping the rain out and shading from the sun.

SITE PLAN
23
The double volume multi-purpose space allow functions such as parties, tour group talks and various activities to happen. The top level can be used as a small gallery or exhibition spaces, with art works places between the columns and people can walk along to view them. Bringing a small bit of Changi Beach Park into this building, transclucent panels of seashells-casted-in-resin are used as the roof shelter. So people can look up and appreciate the beauty of the shells.
24
Being located near existing restaurant blocks (Little Island Brewery, Changi Village Hawker Centre, Tang’s Tea House), Little Wedge Place also acts as a ‘digesting’ element for those that wants to walk around Changi Village just to chill. Especially for kids, the 3D printed facades at the kiosks and shells’ sandpit invite them to explore the texture, evoking this idea of playfulness. The sandpit (on top of admin office) allow them to dig through and find the hidden sea shells. These 3D facades also acts as a feature wall for the reception/ information counter, getting people to be aware of the sequence of the spaces as they enter.

plan
With a series of gallery spots, research zones and a café, interconnected by the weaving ropes bridges and ribbons of steps, Viridescent Series provide an experience for users to exploring, learning, and absorbing their immediate surroundings. Using the existing trees as one of the main structural ‘frame’, ropes are tied around the trunks, which will also bring people closer to the rawness of the texture of the trees. several steel poles have also been constructed for additional supports.

The Daily Life of Sections. The conversations differs between day time and night time, in different part of the sections. There seems to be an overlap in certain areas throughout the three sections, but does it mean they are the same contextually? Or vice versa, same context, but are they the same areas?
As the section line cuts through different parts of Labrador Park, contrasts are shown. The density and heights of the trees might contribute to some of the effects as mentioned. Affecting the shadow casted, the shade provided, and even the changes of atmosphere. But at the same time, they are the silent observers of this historic space that flows together with the time as days passes.

Scar Park
@ pasir panjang power station
Scar Park is a fun and restorative project that replaces the concrete retaining wall found on the hillside between the site Pasir Panjang Power Station and Labrador Nature Reserve. This project will work as a restoration of the site between urban and nature, restoring the historic topography of what was once there, and fabricating a new way of introducing natural ecology with the aid of existing trees from Labrador. In a human scale, Scar Park is an elevated series of layered tiers that will redirect the flow of people through this sunken plaza to the hill through fun. A larger idea of increasing human activity that would revitalize this once disconnected site from the rest of the city. A park that reconnects diversity, over a scar that had once segregates the site. Scar Park is a healing point for the city landscape, an urban intervention that brings distance closer, and nature nearer. In place of the removal of the retaining wall, the now natural slope will be made into a series of natural terraces to keep the earth intact. Tiers of programs, these will include areas for research, education, play, recreation, and nature appreciation, alongside amenities like cafĂŠ kiosks, ground-up stalls and resting spots. Tying up these layers is a system of multiple flights of stairs, movable mechanisms and fitness apparatus that caters for different characters. Scar Park will also house a number of trees from sapling stage to the mature stage on those terraces. It will be seen as a ‘semi-urban nursery’ as part of a wider ambition to include local flora and fauna for ecological restoration, whereby it does not only restore the site itself, but growing trees and plants that could be transplanted to elsewhere, the idea of helping to restore other parts in the city. 52

Tree Dwellers
@ ulu pandan
Located in a quiet spot along Ulu Pandan river, Tree Dwellers came from the a series of questions of “How do we experience the qualities of the trees without touching the trees? The vignette idea started from a hostel room that uses tree leaves as natural screening, coupled with perforated sliding panels to demarcate a room, yet not losing sight of our beautiful surroundings.
The Tree Hostel Towers are among the trees side, with light-weighted tree pods attached on, housing students and providing basic utilities.
The river side sees the communal Waterfront Hub with rows of hanging hollow bamboos stimulating the sound of rustling leaves as wind blows, and perforated roofs to imitates the shadow of tree leaves. The connector in the middle became an active aging stretch that marks the beginning of the space from the pedestrian bridge. The project grows from an unbending space to an organic end. A way of appreciating the notion of trees, understanding the beauty of living with the trees.

Active League
@ The Collectives
1.
Masterplan : The Collectives Team: Lai Wei Song & Lee Hong Xuan (Rainbow)
2.
Individual plot : Active League
The Collectives aims to be an Enhancer of social interaction on normal days and a Safeguard for social capital during pandemic situation. Covid-19 has affected everyone on multiple levels. The majority found themselves struggling under all the uncertainties and many had fallen through the cracks. Hence, The Collectives looks to strengthen the social support of our current social safety net. Four design principles to amplify neighbourliness and resilience among the residents. It guides planners to focus on Better Quality of Living Spaces, Localisation of Retail Spaces, Integration of Smart Technologies, and advocate for Public Living Rooms. The strategies will be guided with designing consideration in scale. Cultivation of micro communities to forge a strong social support group. Bringing communal spaces closer to dwelling units, reducing isolation and create more collaborative living. Together with maximising natural ventilation and bringing nature and outdoor closer to home. Localisation of retail spaces make essential goods more accessible. With a walkability of 2mins, residents will be able to enjoy their own retail buzz at their ground floor without the need to travel to crowded area. And with the surge in the reliance of online and delivery services, it has expedited the nation’s transition over to a smarter country. So, we explores on how autonomous vehicles (AV) will be the next evolution in the techmanifestation. Integrating AV routes into our built environment that can be co-shared with pedestrians so to maximise our usable spaces. Overall, The Collectives achieve to promote social interactions during the good days, and be a social shelter during the bad days. 78
