Indian times April
Where does the word April orginate from? No one knows for certain how April got its name, but it may have come from the Latin word ‘aperire’ which means ‘to open’. April is, after all, the month when in the northern hemisphere buds begin to open and things start to grow again after the winter. Eostre monath or Eastre monath was the AngloSaxon name for the month. The name of the Christian Festival of Easter comes from this Anglo-Saxon word.

New Year resolve to end corruption G
Gudi Padwa, the day celebrated as the beginning of the new year all over Maharashtra was marked by a resolve to end corruption at Ralegan Siddhi, social activist Anna Hazare’s hometown in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district. In solidarity with the India against Corruption movement that is taking momentum across the country, 80 percent of the town’s residents erected a ‘gudi’ with a black cloth instead of the traditional red. The movement launched by Anna Hazare urged the government to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill, drafted by RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal and Karnataka Lokayukta Santosh Hegde, to be able to check corruption in every State. “The gudi outside every home symbolises a new beginning, and we want to start a life without corruption. Anna is undertaking a historic task tomorrow [Tuesday] by starting an indefinite fast. We want to show our support to the cause,” said Sanjay Pathade, a teacher. A gram sabha was convened last week, where everyone was asked to erect the black gudi. Those who did not have a black cloth did not erect a gudi at all, Mr. Pathade told The Hindu. “There was no excitement over the festival, but the resolution is firm in people’s minds. Anna has said he will not return without getting the Bill passed and we extend our wholehearted support,” Mr. Pathade said.
of land in Maharashtra, is heading a committee that will draft the bill.” Swami Agnivesh said he attended the meeting in the morning of the sub-group on transparency of the National Advisory Council (NAC) headed by Sonia Gandhi. A ‘Jan Lokpal’ should be set up at the Centre and a ‘Jan Lokayukta’ appointed in each State to handle corruption cases, probe them and ensure prosecution. “If the NAC had also decided to look into our demands, Hazare would not have to sit on fast. At an earlier meeting of ours with the GoM, Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily kept
My fast begins today, says Anna Hazare After Manmohan rejected demand by civil society to include them in joint panel to discuss the draft Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare will observe fast unto death from Tuesday until the government enacts a comprehensive law such as the Jan Lokpal Bill to tackle the menace. “My fast unto death begins tomorrow. I was saddened when the Prime Minister rejected the demand by leading civil society members to include them and senior Ministers in the joint committee to draft the Jan Lokpal Bill [Citizen’s Ombudsman
Bill],” 72-year-old Mr. Hazare told a press conference here on Monday. He said a Group of Ministers headed by Sharad Pawar was looking into the contents of the proposed anti-corruption bill and civil society members would be consulted later. Retired IPS officer Kiran Bedi and social reformist Swami Agnivesh were also present and pledged their support to Mr. Hazare. Mr. Hazare lamented that the views of eminent persons such as Justice (retired) Santosh Hegde, advocate Prashant Bhushan and Swami Agnivesh were not considered important by the government and “a Minister like Sharad Pawar, who is known for possessing large amounts
saying there was no precedent of having a joint committee to draft such a bill”, Swami Agnivesh said. Ms. Bedi said just like the nation was united during the Cricket World Cup to boost India to victory, people, activists and the media had to create a non-stop movement till the Jan Lokpal Bill is adopted by Parliament. The activists also claimed support of 1983 cricket world cup winning captain Kapil Dev and said he had written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to support their demand. — PTI
Social activist Anna Hazare, the former IPS officer, Kiran Bedi, and Swami Agnivesh address a news conference in New Delhi on Monday, demanding an anti-corruption law on the lines of Lokpal Bill.

Obama announces re-election bid U
nited States President Barack Obama informally kicked off what appears to be another grassroots campaign for his 2012 reelection bid. In a move that likely presages a campaign that will intensively use social media, Mr. Obama also reached out to Americans through Twitter and e-mail, where he said: “Today, we are filing papers to launch our 2012 campaign. We are doing this now because the politics we believe in does not start with expensive TV ads or extravaganzas, but with you — with people organizing blockby-block, talking to neighbours, coworkers, and friends.” Mr. Obama said in his message that even though he was “focused on the job you elected me to do, and the race may not reach full speed for a year or more”, the work of laying the foundation for his campaign “must start today”. The announcement of the reelection bid, though widely expected, comes at a time when the Republican leadership is relatively fragmented and, according to some pollsters, is yet to throw up a candidate who could mount a serious challenge to Mr. Obama’s campaign in 2012.

Gadkari asks BJP to keep its slate clean and fight graft not point fingers at it. “Even though we are charging the government with corruption, we must also look at ourselves and ensure that our leaders, MLAs and MPs are corruption free”, the BJP president said. The BJP would look at introducing a system wherein only people with a non-corrupt background will join the party, he said, adding, “We do not want people to enter politics to make money.”
N
ew Delhi: BJP President Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday asked his party cadre not to indulge in any corrupt practices and take on the UPA government, charging it with failure in fighting corruption, price rise and bringing back Indian black money stashed abroad. “Corruption, black money, inflation... the nation is being
looted and the UPA government is responsible for it. All this is making a hole in our economy,” Gadkari said here addressing senior leaders and party workers on the occasion of the party’s foundation day. At the same time, he cautioned that the BJP must be a party above corruption and should ensure that its own slate is clean so that people do
Gadkari said the party would try to replicate in other BJP ruled states a Bill passed by Madhya Pradesh government that can hold even the Chief Minister accountable for corruption. BJP’s campaign against corruption in UPA government has been dented with allegations against its Chief Minister in Karnataka B S Yeddyurappa who is facing charges of land grab and nepotism. Gadkari hit out at the UPA government on the black money issue and claimed that while smaller countries like Peru and Philippines managed to retrieve money stashed away in foreign countries by corrupt politicians, India has not yet managed to retrieve even a rupee. “Instead, our government filed an
affidavit in the Supreme court seeking permission to conceal the identities of those Indians who have stashed money in tax havens. I do not understand this reasoning,” Gadkari said. The BJP president said effective use of information technology can tackle the scourge of corruption. Exhorting party workers to fare better in non-BJP ruled states, Gadkari said, “As of now, we have governments in eight states. After

the polls in five states, I hope that number will go up to nine at least”. He said the party should focus on winning the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and for that, workers should reach out to people at the grassroot level. Gadkari also said the BJP was one of the few parties that did not follow dynastic politics “unlike DMK and Congress” and this would work in their favour as people were fed up with this family-oriented politics.

Photos show abuse under Gaddafi I
Neha Dalvi’s Beauty Compared with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan ‘Neha Dalvi’ is compared with her beauty and attire with 1994 miss world and world’s beautiful 1st indian woman none other than aishwariya rai bachhan. ‘Neha Dalvi’ has done many endorsement with many brands like: k-lounge, globas, seasons. She will be soon seen in miss india in up-coming year’s and without whiskering she will bagg miss world crown.
n the second-floor office of a burned-out police station here, the photographs strewn across the floor spun out the stories of the unlucky prisoners who fell into the custody of the brutal government of Col Muammar Gaddafi. Some depicted corpses bearing the marks of torture. One showed scars down the back of a man dressed only in his underwear, another a naked man face down under a sheet with his hands bound. The faces of the dead bore expressions of horror. Other pictures showed puddles of blood, a table of jars, bottles and powders and, in one, a long saw. In a labyrinthine basement, workers were clearing out burned books and files. One room contained a two-litre bottle of gin. Gesturing into another room that was kept dark, a worker mimicked a gun with his hands and murmured “Gaddafi”, suggesting it was an execution chamber. Journalists discovered the photographs and records on an official trip to this devastated city, where Gaddafi forces battled rebels for nearly a week to retake control. They were the latest reminder of the long record of arbitrary violence against civilians that now overshadows the government’s efforts to broker an end to the international airstrikes and domestic rebellion threatening Gaddafi’s four decades in power. As Gaddafi’s son, Seif al-Islam, promised to usher in a new era of democracy in which his father would be a mere figurehead “like the queen of England,” the prosecutor for the International Criminal Court declared that it deliberately ordered killing of civilians in a bid to hold back the democratic revolution sweeping the region.

In Jharkhand, children slug it out in ‘rat holes’ to make a living J
avir Kumar, 14, works in illegal coal mines, each a “rat hole,” 10x10 foot and 400 foot deep, where a mere slip of the foot will plunge one to a certain death. A large number of children aged below 14 are working in such mines, built unscientifically, in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district. These mine workers are mostly from Orissa, West Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Assam. The way coal is mined is scary and complicated, as Javir Kumar explains: iron rods are heated and then sharpened for digging. Every five minutes, a wooden bucket brimming with coal is heaved out of a burrow. The coal is dumped on the side of the quarry before being loaded on to the waiting truck. Every day, a child mines 30-40 buckets. These mines are increasing in numbers, manned mostly by children ranging in age from 7 to 17. The Mines Act, 1952, stipulates that anyone aged below 18 cannot be employed in mines; the labour law fixes the permissible age for employment at 14. These labourers start work at 5 in the morning; by the time they come out of the mine, it is dark. Then they drink and gamble.
AWARD WINNER
Award Winner Chief SATWINDER SAINI Introduced for the first time in Australia
The kin of those who die in accidents in these mines never get any compensation as the deaths are never recorded, claims Chota Majhi. “It’s really dark inside. When I was there for the first time, I was scared, fearing whether I could ever come to the surface,” recalls Phul Kumari. “Everyone uses an oil lamp to pick their way in the mines.”
What with the frequent exposure to dust and coal particles, these children suffer from respiratory problems. The primary health centre is out of reach. Also, there is no clean water to drink. A single hand-pump serves a population of 600. Water scarcity forces the people to use water the mines are filled with.
Sai Baba’s condition critical The condition of Sri Sathya Sai Baba turned critical on Monday evening as some of his vital systems were not ‘adequately responding’ to treatment. A bulletin issued by A.N. Safaya, Director, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences (SSSIHMS) at Prasanthigram near Puttaparthi, said the 85-year-old Sai Baba continued to be on ventilator support for helping his respiration and suction of secretion from the lungs.

She has taken a long leap ahead since then, with What’s Your Raashee? and 7 Khoon Maaf that have helped her carve her very own niche in the industry. Though the films went unnoticed, her performances were lauded for the intensity in it. Well the actress has another challenge up her sleeves, Anurag Basu’s next directorial outing Barfi would see her portray a physically challenged girl. The role demands a lot of authenticity and the Punjabi girl is all up for it. The film will eventually see Ileana make her foray into Bollywood and the actress is seemingly excited with the offer. With the two powerhouse girls locking horns with each other, the audiences await a visual treat. Don’t we?

ellington: Lights started going off around the world on Saturday in a show of support for renewable energy, given added poignancy by Japan’s nuclear disaster which raises doubts about nuclear power as a possible solution. Landmarks in thousands of cities, from Sydney Harbour Bridge to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, will turn off the power for Earth Hour, the fifth such event promoting a sustainable future for the planet. I think it’s going to be the biggest one, but would also say it’s very much up to the people, Andy Ridley, co-founder of Earth Hour, told Reuters in Sydney. There is no-one telling you that you have to do it. The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) initiative, along with governments, business and individuals, will cross the globe, with the first lights dimmed across Fiji and New Zealand at 8:30 pm (0730 GMT), to lights being turned on again in Samoa 24 hours later. Many promoting sustainable energy have seen nuclear power as a solution. But the March 11 earthquake and tsunami which crippled the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in northeastern Japan sending radioactive material into the atmosphere have made made many think twice.
We did hesitate a bit (about calling for Earth Hour in Japan) because there are many without electricity in disaster-hit areas, said Naoyuki Yamagishi, climate change programme leader for WWF in Japan. But we thought by calling out for energy conservation nationwide it would actually boost support for those living in evacuation shelters. While not everyone participating in Earth Hour may oppose nuclear energy, I think this incident has prompted some to reflect on their stances on energy. Engineers were frantically attempting on Saturday to pump out puddles of radioactive water at the plant, which has already sent low levels of radiation into the vegetables and milk near the plant and into dust and tap water in the capital, Tokyo. The quake and tsunami killed more than 10,000 people and left 17,000 missing and feared dead. Tens of thousands are living in evacuation centres. One woman who lost her home and a 50-year-old family-owned dress shop to the tsunami was Hiromi Uchikanezaki, 53, of Kirikiri village in Iwate prefecture. I am living at my brother’s house in the hills without electricity or running water, she said when told of Earth Hour. I can feel the support and empathy from people around the world and am grateful.
When asked about the future of nuclear power, she said: It can be a very good thing, but when something like this happens, it is totally terrifying. In Taiwan, lights will go out on the Taipei 101 skyscraper while residents in one area of the city plan to spend the hour of darkness praying for victims of the Japanese disaster. As for India, a message posted on Twitter said: In India, thousands of villages experience Earth Hour each hour of the day. Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard lent her voice to Earth Hour by vowing that she and her government will go beyond the hour by doing everything in my power to deliver a carbon price, a scheme to encourage companies to minimise emissions. Australia, a leading coal exporter, accounts for about 1.5 percent of global emissions, but is one of the highest per-capita polluters in the developed world due to a reliance on coal-fired power for 80 percent of domestic electricity. Although Earth Hour kicked off in Fiji, organisers did not have it all their own way. Rugby-crazy Fiji agreed to switch off lights, but not television, due to competition with the ongoing Hong Kong Sevens.

The charges against the 32-yearold relate to an 18-year-old male student. It is understood that the scandal involved a naked man who was found on the street near Hughes’’ Wellington home. While the affair has had a catastrophic impact on Hughes political fortunes, Labour itself threatens to be the bigger casualty. The affair has created a huge headache for Labour leader Phil Goff and deputy leader Annette King, with whom Hughes was boarding when the incident happened.

Holi is one of the major festival of India and is the most vibrant of all. The joys of Holi knows no bound. The festival is celebrated across the four corners of India or rather across the globe. The festival is filled with so much fun and frolic that the very mention of the word ‘Holi’ draws smile and enthusiasm amongst the people. Holi also celebrates the arrival of Spring, a season of joy and hope. Story of Holika: Integrally entwined with Holi, is the tradition of ‘Holika Dahan’, which is actually lighting of bonfires. The ritual is symbolic of victory of good over evil and has its root in the legend of demon king Hiranyakashyap who wished to end his blessed son, Prahlad’s life with the help of his sister, Holika who burnt in the fir and no harm occurred to Prahlad. Since then the day is celebrated in victory of good over bad. Story of Radha and Krishan: The legend of Radha and Krishna is closely linked with this tradition of colors on Holi. Young Krishna, who had a dark complexion was jealous of his beloved Radha’s extremely fair skin. In a mischievous mood, he applied color on Radha’s face. Following this ancient legend, lovers till date long to color their beloved as an expression of love.
Wellington: It’s election year in New Zealand, but the conservative National Party, which has been in power since 2008, is proving tough to beat thanks to the sky-high popularity of leader John Key, further boosted after the Christchurch earthquake. The Opposition Labour Party’s woes have increased with fresh allegations against one of its star performers, chief whip Darren Hughes, who resigned from parliament last week amid allegations of a sexual incident.

Dum and dumber? THANK YOU M
T
HANK YOU, this title will surely ring bells for all good and humorous reasons, as it comes from the stables of a filmmaker who has been consistent in delivering out frothy slapstick entertainers. Director Anees Bazmee pitches out another ribtickler that has all the ingredients to attract footfalls into the theatres. Ensemble of bankable A-list actors, grandeur of exotic foreign locations, crazy slapstick comedy and to spice it all, it has Pritam’s peppy music to make everything notable in days to come. In Bazmee’s flicks music has always been mechanical or situational but still have grounded screenplay to its fullest potential. THANK YOU opens to minimal musical expectations but all the above mentioned features makes it as one of most anticipated musical releases. Can this THANK YOU be another WELCOME surprise for listeners? Just check this out... It all started off with rehashed version of “Apni toh jaise taise” ((HOUSEFULL (2010)), a racy 70’s dancing track that stole limelight and was instant big
surprise chartbusting hit. What is following next is “Pyar Do Pyar Lo”, a sensational 80’ disco cabaret hit from Feroze Khan’s JAANBAAZ with similar blazing nasal twang of Mika Singh? This soundtrack is amusing “clubremix” style of disco-tadka with initial similar punch-lines but with hilariously bawdy “antaras” to create frolicsome feel for varied comical situations. Pritam delivers an above-average funky number that has archetypical 80’s disco feel number that should be fuelling out humor quotient. Mika Singh’s vocals works perfectly again and so do its chirpy lyrics, it will really be enterprising to see how it works on big screen. Director : Anees bazmee Music: Pritam Chakraborty Lyrics : Amitabh Bhattacharya, Ashish Pandit and Kumaar Starring : Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Suniel Shetty, Celina Jaitly, Irrfan Khan, Rimi Sen and Mallika Sherawat

umbai, - Dev Anand was once the only one to express his displeasure towards the makers of the forthcoming film, Dum Maaro Dum, for remixing the cult song from his blockbuster, Hare Rama Hare Krishna (1971). But since the item song, remixed by Pritam, went on air, many more have thrashed the track featuring Deepika Padukone for its crude lyrics, penned by Jaideep Sahni. When quizzed on this, Deepika says that the song sung by Anushka Manchanda is different from what people had expected. “’Dum maaro dum...’ is an iconic song and they have Zeenat Aman’s image in their minds,” she says. “From the beginning, Rohan (director Rohan Sippy) was clear that the song’s look and feel should be different. It comes in the middle of the film and is shot in a particular way, keeping the story in mind.” When told that many listeners have been complaining about the lyrics, the actor argues that it’s the director’s vision. “Actors have no control over the lyrics,” she shrugs. “We’re not meant to be ourselves. It’s rare that you get to be yourself in a film. That happened with me only in Love Aaj Kal.” She is surprised that some consider the Dum Maaro Dum team, which launched the item song during the India-South Africa match, jinxed for the Men In Blue, who lost the match. “Two teams were playing to win, nothing could have influenced them.” Deepika asserts that she’s overwhelmed by the feedback she has received for her performance in the song. “The last time I was on a high was when Om Shanti Om and Love Aaj Kal released.” She was in for a surprise when she returned from Bhopal, after a marathon spell of her next film, Prakash Jha’s Aarakshan, to find a parcel of short skirts sent to her by some fans. “I think it was a really sweet gesture, though I don’t know what to do with them,” she laughs.

Bestmore digital SLRs here’s on TV for beginners
indiantimes
The Simply Touch Mouse By Microsoft
Some digital SLRs come with an articulating LCD screen, and all SLRs listed here come with Live View, which allows you to compose an image on screen rather than looking through the viewfinder. Need to take photos of fast moving kids, pets or sports? Consider an SLR with fast continuous shooting speed, like the Canon 550D, Nikon D5000 or Pentax K-x which all can shoot in the region of 4 frames per second.
Batteries and weight
With so many digital SLRs on the market today it’s no wonder that the decision of what to buy can be daunting. An SLR gives you a whole array of shooting options at your fingertips, including manual control and the ability to change lenses and add accessories like external flashes as you need. Fortunately there are more choices than ever. Here are our picks for the best digital SLRs for beginners, but if you’re looking for more information on photography or what SLR to buy make sure to check out our digital camera basics article, or our digital SLR super guide for more information.
Price Do you have a particular price point in mind? Under AU$1000 is a common target, which mostly limits your choices to the entry-level models in each manufacturer’s range, such as the Canon EOS 1000D or the Nikon D3100. With a bit more to spend you can get a camera with a few more features; that way as your skills progress, the camera can grow with you.
Most of the digital SLRs listed below come with a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery, but for AA battery compatibility you will be limited to a number of models in the Pentax range, such as the K-x. You may also want to invest in a dedicated battery grip for your camera which holds extra battery charge and attaches to the SLR to provide a larger grip area as well. If you’re looking for a lightweight camera, the Canon 1000D, Olympus E-620 and the Nikon D3000 are the most feather-like of the options here, weighing in at 450 grams, 475 grams and 485 grams respectively (body only). You may also want to consider an interchangeable lens camera.
Lenses All cameras listed in our round-up below come in a kit configuration, with one or two lenses to get you started. Remember to be aware that each company uses different lens mounts: Olympus bodies have the advantage of being compatible with the Four Thirds system; Nikon uses the F-mount, which means you can use most old lenses, even 50-year-old ones, from the company (though autofocus and metering may be unavailable); and Sony is compatible with some old Konica Minolta lenses. Still stuck on which camera to get? Post your comments below or in the forums and we’ll do our best to help
Features The biggest trend to take off in the digital SLR space over the past few years has been HD video. The Canon 550D and Nikon D3100 are competent digital SLRs, and both feature HD video recording as part of the feature set at full 1080p. The 550D also offers full manual control in movie mode to give the greatest flexibility in choosing exposure.
Can Apple Hold Onto Its Smartphone Dominance?
A
pple chrome logo Can Apple Hold Onto Its Smartphone Dominance? There has been explosive growth in the smartphone market in the last couple of years. This was really due to the release of the iPhone in 2007. Mobile phone users instantly saw the value in these new phones, and it really was the start of a ‘computer in your pocket’ generation of phones. Since 2007, almost all of the major phone manufacturers have launched a version of the smartphone, with most following a similar design to the original iPhone. This is great news for consumers as they have a number of different phones to choose from, and as an added benefit, has also spawned a new industry in app development. App developers have really embranced smartphones and as a consequence there are apps to inform and entertain, and generally make your life just that little bit easier. Other more recent enhancements include high quality camera on most phones, so you really can get away with not needing a separate digital camera, and a video camera, takes video to a high enough standard for the casual user. umbai, The Indian media and entertainment industry logged an 11percent growth in 2010 to touch $14.5 billion (Rs.652 billion) and is projected to expand at a higher rate of 13 percent this year, says a report released by a leading industry lobby Monday. “While television and print media continued to dominate India’s media and entertainment industry, sectors such as gaming, digital advertising and animation grew at a faster rate and show tremendous potential,” said the report prepared by consultancy KPMG. “Overall, the industry is expected to register a compounded annual growth of 14 percent to touch Rs.1,275 billion ($28.3 billion) by 2015,” said the report, commissioned by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). umbai: After capturing the big screen, Salman Khaan seems to have captured the small screen as well. After hosting the super successful Dus Ka Dum on Sony television and Bigg Boss’s fourth season, Salman is being signed on for Khatron Ke Khiladi’s fourth season. Incidentally, the original Khiladi Akshay Kumar was signed for the fourth instalment of the show. But now, the buzz is that Salman is going to host the show. In fact, Sallu Bhai has apparently shot for a promotional video of the show while he was filming in Bangkok for Anees Bazmee’s next film Ready. The news on the grapevine tells that Salman had offered television channel Colors an amazing deal for hosting both Bigg Boss and KKK4. This is why the channel has swiftly shifted its loyalty from Akki to Sallu. So, now, along with KKK, Sallu will also host Bigg Boss’s fifth instalment. Kumar hosted the first two seasons of the Indian rip off of the international format Fear Factor. Then, Piggy chops hosted the third season and finally Sallu Miyan is all ready to step into the shoes of the host. On hearing the news, Akshay Kumar was shocked. He had no idea that he was replaced.

It is common knowledge that India and world-class wine are not spoken in the same breath, but if the recent promotional events held all over the country are anything to go by, then all that is about to change. From organizing winemaking workshops to opening up the vineyards for spectacular wine tours, those associated with the wine industry are pulling out all the stops to lure consumers and to educate the masses about this sumptuous drink. Although, wine has traditionally been consumed throughout history with evidence dating back to Harappa civilization, commercial wine production is a pretty recent phenomenon, with the first commercial grape wine plant being set up only in the 1980s. Since then, three major players – Chateau Indage, Grover Vineyards and Sula Vineyards – emerged in the domestic winemaking scene and the last few decades saw vineyards cropping up all over the country. Then came the tide of globalization and India, bowing to WTO’s demands, had to reduce tariffs on imported liquor with the consequence that the market was suddenly flooded with incredibly refined Italian and French wines of unmatched quality – much to the delight of the wine lovers and to the woe of the Indian winemakers. Coming back to the present times, finding a foothold in an arena that has been eternally dominated by European players (read: France, Italy, and Spain, in that order) has been quite an uphill task for Indian winemakers. However, the recent growth numbers – the wine market is currently growing at a rate of 25-30 per cent – have given them some cause to celebrate. A larger market translates to more demand, which in turn means that Indian wines can, now, share a shelf with their French and Italian counterparts. Moreover, Indians wines are considerably cheaper than their Western counterparts; thus enabling it to achieve a particular target audience of its own. But the entire picture is not so rosy – the recent budget proposals with regards to hotel industries have industry experts fuming. According to the proposal, air-conditioned restaurants with a license to serve wine or any other liquor will now have to pay a service tax, in addition to the already existing VAT of 20-25 per cent on wine and liquor. This can lead to fall in wine and liquor consumption at restaurants, thus affecting the wine market. Despite this apparent setback, Indian wine companies are going to places like never before. Good Earth Winery, the Pune based winery owned by Girish Mhatre, has recently announced that its wines will be served at official functions in the Indian embassy in US. Back home, statistics reveal that India’s rich and prosperous are finally warming up to this delicious drink; India has a wine market of roughly 1.2 million cases, while experts predict that consumption will grow at a CAGR of around 30% during 2009-2013. Lastly, right marketing strategies and increased awareness will go a long way to ensure that this historically significant drink finally conquers Indian hearts.

Stay in heritage accommodation and see some of South Australia’s first lighthouses at Cape Willoughby, Cape Borda and Cape du Couedic. With history: sailors, soldiers, explorers and an Aboriginal mystery 4. On the coast: swim, surf, snorkel and dive from sparkling beaches and bays 5. With adventures on land: ride, drive and surf the sand
Location: Fifteen kilometers off the south coast of South Australia Best time to go: With long, warm and sunny days in all seasons, Kangaroo Island is an ideal holiday destination all year round.
Kangaroo Island is the place where you can quietly ‘go bush’ and see native Australian animals and birds as they were meant to be seen. In the wild. Kangaroo Island is a true wildlife sanctuary. Owing to its isolation from the mainland, the Island has suffered less from the impact of European settlement and retains more than half of its native ‘old-growth’ vegetation - a vast area of some 2,250 square kilometres. Similarly, the Island has been spared the damage done by foxes and rabbits, ensuring the integrity of native bushland. Result? Animal and bird populations have thrived. Today, more than one-third of the Island is declared Conservation or National Park and it has five significant Wilderness Protection Areas. So Kangaroo Island continues to be a special and protected place. Enter and be amazed...
By The Coast: Kangaroo Island is bordered by many beautiful beaches, some of which you are sure to visit during your time on the Island. These beaches are home to wildlife species such as Little Penguins, Australian Sea-lions and beautiful beach birds such as the Hooded Plover. You can make the most of your beach experience without disturbing the natural environment by following these simple principles: Walk rather than drive on to the beach. Emu Bay is the only beach where vehicles are permitted onto the sand unless you are using a boat ramp to launch a boat. Keep dogs controlled or on a leash at all times. This will help protect beach birds such as Hooded Plovers - their nests, eggs and young - and Little Penguins. When viewing penguins, move slowly and speak softly so as not to frighten them. If watching penguins at night, do not shine light directly in their eyes. You could join a guided tour in Kingscote or Penneshaw, where the guides will use filtered light to spot them and provide interesting facts about these night critters. Birds of prey such as White-Bellied Sea-eagles and Ospreys are prone to disturbance in spring and summer when nesting - if you see one or two birds circling and calling please leave the area immediately to minimise risk to their young.

Almost Pati-Patni: Genelia & John Genelia and John to not complete their end of the customs - lest they ended up married for real, by Hindu laws!
E
ver heard of a couple that got accidentally married, because of a scene in a movie? Hunky dory John Abraham and Genelia D’Souza could have been the ones to go down in B-Town history for exactly the deal, if the two had finished their vows! There is a scene in Vipul Shah’s next project, Force, that stars these two talented actors and good friends, where they are set to get married. A wedding scene in a movie - no big deal,
one would think, but here’s what! The pandit of the locality who was chanting the mantra, for some inexplicable reason had no understanding of the entire scene being part of an act for a movie’s shooting. Apparently, he actually went as far as insisting on completing the rituals, even as the team and crew catching wind of the drastic misunderstanding sought to explain the situation to him. Strangely enough, the efforts were in vain, for the pandit refused
to understand and comply. It all came down to getting Genelia and John to not complete their end of the customs - lest they ended up married for real, by Hindu laws! And whatever kind of tomfoolery that may sound like, on can’t but wonder what if the wedding had been accomplished! Some unmanageable mess that would have been, eh, Bips?! Funny incidents do happen in Tinsel town.

Akshay: If a man hurts Sonam, I will kill him
S
onam Kapoor has won Akshay Kumar’s heart. After working with the likes of Abhishek Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan and Abhay Deol, she has taken a step ahead by pairing up with Akshay Kumar. “Sonam is very much like her mother but more so like her father,” says Akshay Kumar who has worked with Anil Kapoor in films like
WELCOME and TASHAN before, “I have known her family for long. Sonam is a very family orientated young lady and extremely easy to work. She has a very big heart and shows her beautiful side to everyone. Now that’s a lovely quality to have.” Amongst many leading ladies that Akshay has either launched or re-established in the industry, Sonam Kapoor is the newest entrant to be paired opposite him. For
someone with whom he has never shared screen space before, what kind of actor did Sonam turn out to be working with? “She is a very sweet girl and has just played the most mature character of her career so far with a lot of passion,” says Akshay, “I am very proud of her for that. I can say without a doubt that when Sonam’s character cries in this film, she can really reduce you to tears.” While the man is (expectedly) all praises for his co-star, what is of interest is that he has also become quite protective of the young woman. “Sonam is someone who is very gullible herself and I could pull her leg in seconds without her even realising. Due to that she was very true to the character that she plays in THANK YOU,” smiles Akshay, “Having said that, as long as it is for the reel life, it is fine. But when it comes to real life, she is one of those women where if a man ever hurt her, I would have to kill him. Come on, she is too nice to be hurt.”
Priyanka Chopra Just last week, we broke the news about Priyanka Chopra being chosen as the brand ambassador of Nikon. Sources confirmed and said that she’s been chosen as the brand ambassador of the cosmetic giant Garnier.

Love scenes to turn steamier in ‘Ragini MMS’
13b
movie preview
Bhindi Baazaar Inc.
A
realistic gripping account of politics set among the dark underbelly of Mumbai pickpockets in the infamous area of “Bhindi Baazaar”....
Like every other commercial organization here too are employees and their designations. They too have field work, administration structure and skill-set, alongside they also have business rivalry; this is a company called Bhindi Baazaar Inc. Here their main trade is to pickpocket. ‘Mamu’ is a title of a local mafia-head of Bhindi Baazaar Incorporation, it is a position nobody even thinks to reach, leave aside attempting to be there. Years ago the reigning Mamu snatched it from someone and may be someone has to do the same to be the next, but you never know who it can be, just as you don’t know who your enemy is in the game of Chess, a game where a mere pawn can cross the Chessboard and become a ‘Vazir’.
Synopsis:
B
o l l y w o o d Wo r l d . c o m , Producer Ekta Kapoor plans to re-shoot two lovemaking scenes in Ragini MMS, to make them steamier. Having viewed the rushes of the film, which releases on Friday May 13, Ekta was of the opinion that there was reason for the scenes to be steamier, as they are integral to the paranormal happenings in the story. Young actors Rajkumar (last seen in the controversial bare-
butt sex scene in Love Sex Aur Dhokha) and Kainaz Motivala (who played Tanya in Wake Up Sid) have been asked to re-shoot some intimate on-screen moments on April 3. Remarks Ekta, “There’s no intention to titillate. I don’t want the chemistry between the actors to look contrived. The relationship between a beautiful Mumbai girl and an aggressive North-Indian boy needs to look believable and authentic.”
Good hearted but not worldly-wise, the roly-poly tax inspector, Bharat Bhushan (Vinay Pathak) is back to fulfill his long cherished dream of becoming a singer. To further his ambition he enters a game show hoping to win a cash prize with which he can make his own music album. Eventually Bhushan goes on to win the competition which also gifts him a free stay on a cruise ship. It is on this cruise that he meets Ajit Talwar (Kay Kay Menon), an acrid tongued sadistic business tycoon, who is taking sheath on the cruise to flee from the Income Tax department. On the ship, after a string of oddball occurrences owing to a mistaken identity, Ajit Talwar and Bharat Bhushan wind up stranded on a deserted island. It is on the island that Ajit realizes what a pain Bharat Bhushan is. His stupidity drives Ajit up the wall. The story gets only interesting from here as they try finding their way out of the island. With Bharat Bhushan finding the way to his dream and Ajit Talwar trying to find recluse from Bharat Bhushan and Income Tax, some more characters add to the complexity and spice of the brawl.

Shiney Ahuja sentenced to 7-year jail for raping maid

inissha Lamba recently shot for a men’s magazine cover at a beach in Goa. Soon enough, an over-entusiastic mob got clicking and shooting her on their phones as she was in beachwear. The shoot was quickly shifted to another location. “Yes, the crowd was getting a little out of control but quick thinking saved the day, “ says Minissha when quizzed about the incident. Some days are more Lamba than others.

court here Wednesday sentenced actor Shiney Ahuja to seven years in jail after he was found guilty of raping his maid in 2009. As Judge P.M. Chauhan of the Sewri fast track sessions court delivered the judgement, Ahuja broke down in the court. The verdict came despite the maid turning hostile during the trial. Ahuja was arrested June 15, 2009 after medical tests on the maid confirmed sexual assault. The Bombay High Court had granted him bail in October 2009. Relying mostly on the police complaint filed against Ahuja, the court did not accept the maid’s version that she was not raped as the judge felt that she gave false evidence, Ahuja’s lawyer Shrikant Shivade told reporters outside the court. The 20-year-old maid had in June 2009 lodged a police complaint alleging she was raped by Ahuja while she was at work at his residence, following which the actor was arrested. In August 2009, the case was moved to a fast track court. Ahuja was granted bail in October 2009 by the Bombay High Court citing lack of evidence. Over a year after accusing Ahuja of raping her, the maid in September 2010 told the court that the rape never took place. The medical examination in June 2009, however, confirmed rape. She also stated before the judge that she made the serious charge against Ahuja because of pressure from a woman who introduced her to the actor. In a 109-page chargesheet, Ahuja was accused of rape, criminal intimidation and holding his maid hostage. In his defence, Ahuja had argued that he was being framed.

Bipasha helped me a lot: Rana Daggubati
N
ew Delhi, (IANS) Southern actor Rana Daggubati, who is paired with Bipasha Basu in his Bollywood debut ‘Dum Maaro Dum’, is not dating his co-star but praises her for making him comfortable on the sets of the crime thriller. The film, which also stars Abhishek Bachchan and Prateik Babbar, is releasing April 22. ‘Being a newcomer in Bollywood, I had initial jitters, but I must say my co-stars - Bipasha and Abhishek - really helped me to pull it off. Bipasha helped me a lot and took care of my comfort during shoots,’ Daggubati told IANS.
‘I have known Abhishek even before we started working together for the film,’ he added. Directed by Rohan Sippy, the film revolves around the lives of six people who meet in Goa and how their lives change once they are dragged into the drug mafia world. The 25-year-old plays a musician in ‘Dum Maaro Dum’. ‘I play a Goan disc jockey. My character is very laid back and does not worry about anything. But he gets trapped in a dirty circle,’ he said. Daggubati, grandson of veteran Telugu film actor-producer D. Ramanaidu and son of producer D. Suresh Babu, had to work on accent. ‘For the character, I had to do a lot of prepartaion - starting from body language to the typical Hindi accent. I also took guitar lessons. But diction training took most of the time,’ he said. ‘I had to get rid of my Hyderabadi Hindi and learn Goan Hindi. It wasn’t easy because these two kinds of Hindi were mutually incompatible. I had to unlearn one kind of Hindi and then learn a new kind. Since I was brought up in Chennai, I speak fluent Tamil and Telugu,’ he added. When asked what prompted him to make his debut with Rohan Sippy’s film, he said: ‘I knew I could never get an opportunity to do this kind of role due to regional boundaries. The role and the script were a bigger excitement for me to grow as an actor.’ The actor who made his debut in 2010 with Telugu movie ‘Leader’, an intense political drama, says the shooting in Goa was more like a vacation. ‘Nothing can be better than enjoying your work. Even while we were shooting, it seemed as if we were all out for a vacation. Beautiful Goa, laid back attitude, fun and excitement made work so much enjoyable.’ Daggubati is busy promoting ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ and is equally excited about his Telugu film ‘Nenu Na Rakshasi’ which will release April 29.

Charlie Sheen calls ex a ‘dog-thief’
Freida defends her racy photo shoot Slumdog Millionaire’ star Freida Pinto, who raised eyebrows last year (‘10) with a series of racy shots for the U.S. version of GQ, is now defending the photoshoot. Rumours suggested that the photoshoot for the men’’’’s magazine was a deliberate attempt to shake off her ‘nice-girl’ image, but Pinto has now spoken out to stress that she was not manipulated into taking part and it was entirely her decision to pose for the pictures. “The decision to do those pictures was mine. I definitely knew how I wanted to look. A stylist may have chosen the clothes but the decision to wear them was mine. I would hate to feel that I was being objectified,” the Daily Star quoted her as telling You magazine. “I have always said that a woman’s sexuality should not be used in a way that is demeaning to her. But, you know, I don’t think this is a sexist issue any more because actors are strutting their stuff in photoshoots just as much as actresses now,” she added.

roubled actor Charlie Sheen has branded his estranged wife Denise Richards a “dog-thief” on Twitter for allegedly taking back two pugs from his house. According to TMZ, Richards believed the dogs were being mistreated. She reportedly went to Sheen’’s house where he gave her the dogs. Her fears about the pugs’’ health seem sadly well-founded, as one of the dogs died of malnutrition, reports CBS News. Even though Sheen reportedly gave up the dogs, he took to social media to rip on his ex-wife. “We must bombard with Warlock napalm, that traitor and loser whore #DUH-neese POOR-ards. A vile kidnapper and now dog thief. Hate.” Richards, who is no stranger to harsh words from her ex, has no intention of giving up the remaining pug. Sheen claims he needs the dog to be the mascot for his upcoming comedy tour.

Cricket & Her T
he gentleman’s game has been through several changes since it came into being in 16th century London – the biggest being the inclusion of women. Even though women took to the field by the 18th century, few decided to hop on board of the commentator’s panel with the same elan. History aside, the commentator’s panel in India was just as bereft of the fairer sex, preferring an anglicised, stiff, upper lip approach to the game or the breathless Hindi version. This changed a few years ago, when the Mandira phenomenon took to the airwaves. Noodle straps, a mega watt smile and just a few clues about the game turned tables and brought the babes to the expert panel -- to stay. Here, a look at the Indian women who sauced up the gentleman’s game.

rom the moment Virender Sehwag eased the opening ball through the covers for four in Dhaka to Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s spectacular six to win the final in Mumbai, India seemed destined to win the World Cup. India tied with England in an enthralling group stage match which set the tournament alight and lost to a South Africa team determined to exorcise the ghosts of past World Cups. Dropping three points meant second place in Group B and a quarterfinal against defending champions Australia in a match described by Australian coach Tim Nielsen as a “mini-grand final”. Ricky Ponting at his grittiest scored a century but Yuvraj Singh, whose left-arm slow bowling proved an unexpected bonus throughout the tournament, responded with a match-winning innings of 57 not out as India passed their first trial by fire.
They gave Indian cricket its finest hour. Kapil’s Devils have a special place in Indian hearts. In the last four World Cups, India had teams full of superstars. But they flattered to deceive. Can Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s boys take us to glory this time? They are among the favourites, but can they win us the World Cup for a second time? A comparison between the two sides would be interesting. The World Cup-winning side had Sunil Gavaskar as its No. 1 player. Sunny didn’t have a great

Umpiring Errors And Review Systems “To err is human”. This idiom is very popular among the mass; many people blindly believe that this is the complete idiom and has a very transparent meaning. Now let us put the same context with the umpires of the cricketing world. There have been umpteen numbers of incidents in history which actually show that the ever reliable umpiring giants hired by the ICC are prone to make mistakes too. Be it Steve Bucknor, Asad Rauf, Billy Doctrove or even Simon Taufel; they all have made some high profile mistakes in their umpiring career. Let us start seeing some very memorable umpiring mistakes for Indian players. We all know that the Master Blaster - Sachin Tendulkar is jinxed with wrong umpiring decisions. Starting in 1997, he was given out on a no ball bowled by Frankline Rose of West Indies at Bridgetown wherein India lost the test match by 38 runs only. There was this test match in 1999 where due to a controversial obstruction by Shoaib Aktar, Sachin was run out. Apparently the obstruction rules of pitch were not applied by Steve Bucknor. At Perth in 2000, in a must win situation for India to get qualified for finals he was wrongly given caught behind off Waqar Younis. Again at the Eden test against Pakistan, he was given a wrong caught behind decision by Steve Bucknor and Abdul Razzak
Umpire Decision Review System
was the bowler. In the last match of England ODI series 2007, Alee Dar had given him a wrong caught behind decision. He claimed to have realized his mistake but did not change his decision. After the match was over he gave his highly criticized explanation, “I knew he was not out. But I don’t have a habit of changing my decision”. Skipper Saurav Ganguly was wrongly given out due to leg before off bowler Paul Collingwood by Ian Howell in the test match against England played at the Kennington Oval. In another
incidence, Rahul Dravid was given out wrongly on a no ball by Corey Collymore of West Indies by Simon Taufel in the first Test match played at Antigua. These mistakes when made not only upset the dismissed batsman but also sometimes changes the whole outcome of the match. So much for cricket being unpredictive! These kinds of wrong decisions might lessen the sportsmanship in players. Further, these lead to bans and fines being levied on players for their indecent behavior and disregard for on-field umpire. Considering all these situations, the International Cricket Council (ICC) introduced the Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) on a trial basis in Tests in June 2008 which mentioned that the teams were given permission to challenge on-field umpire decisions and refer them to a television umpire. The maximum number of opportunities given is only 2 per innings. The system would decrease human errors in the game to a certain extent and would ensure that the players do not get a raw deal. The only controversial issue with the UDRS is the technology costs involved have to be paid by hosts and many countries are not accepting this condition. Let’s hope that the newly introduced system serves its purpose truly.
InterGlobe brings 12.5-cr sports car to Indian market
The new Koenigsegg Agera R is shown during the press day at the 81st Geneva International Motor Show in Geneva, Switzerland.
NEW DELHI: If you want to zip beyond 400 km/hour, the Koenigsegg Agera is the perfect choice. The Swedish supercar, launched at a staggering price of 12.5 crore, is the second most expensive car in the local market after the 16.2-crore Bugatti that made its debut in November last year. Agera, with 5-litre bi-turbo V8 engine, which boasts of a pulsating 1115 horsepower, gains 100 km/hr speed in just 2.9 second. The company had produced the CCR model that broke the nine-year-old Guinness World Record of the McLaren Bugatti in 2005. Keeping the same lineage alive, Koenigsegg churns our limited set of around 16-18 cars every year out of its single manufacturing facility in Sweden. It tunes every car specifically for any particular country, after carefully studying the quality of fuel on offer in local conditions. For example, to meet the needs of its customers in Brazil, the company has developed a bio-fuel run Agera R model specific to that market.

Force India ends without points in Australian GP
elbourne: Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta finished outside the points bracket as Force India Formula One team returned empty-handed from the Australian Grand Prix here on Sunday. Sutil ended the race 11th while di Resta finished 12th. Both Sutil and di Resta made a good start to the race, running in 10th and 12th respectively by the end of lap one. Di Resta was the first to pit for a set of new option tyres on lap 14 while Sutil’s first stop came on lap 16. For the team’s second pit stops, Sutil came in for prime tyres on lap 37 and di Resta for new primes on lap 36. The pair then ran consistently in 11th and 12th, maintaining their positions until the chequered flag. “Generally it was not a bad race. Coming from 16th was not easy; the start itself was good and as usual there were a lot of cars at the first corner, but I made up several places by the end of lap one. We had good performance on the track and in the end it was a good race for the first one of the season,” Sutil said.

The Swedish company has tied up with Rahul Bhatiapromoted InterGlobe Enterprises (that also runs low-cost airline Indigo) for launching Agera models in India. The cars would be sold directly to high networth individuals without any dealership network. “We will not set up dealerships but will sell these cars directly to owners that would be determined through our own database. We are dealing in a host of luxury products and would be retailing them directly to customers with complete service backup,” Nigel A Harwood, President & CEO of Interglobe Established Products, said. He, however, refused to confirm any sales projections for the car in India. In addition to Koenigsegg, there is a range of other high-end brands Interglobe plans to launch in the Indian market. Other super cars like the Gumpert Apollo along with Nostalgia’s that are basically Jaguar replicas and the Deronda race cars would also be available though direct sales channels. Interglobe has also introduced the world fastest-production bike, Vyrus, and highly customised bike, Hollister, in the Indian market. The company also introduced half-a-dozen yatch brands in India. www.indian-times.com.au

A
yurveda is a holistic health science that evolved down the ages in ancient India some 5000 years ago advocating a way of life in combination with diagnosing and curing ailments in perfect harmony with mother nature. The word Ayurveda derived from Sanskrit, which implies two connected ideas “the science of life” and “the art of living”. Ayurveda not only treats a person’s physical complaints, but it also changes lifestyle practices to help maintain or improve health.
According to Ayurveda sexual intercourse involves all the five senses sight, sound, smell, taste and touch and it is believed to be an elaborate process of mutual stimulation gifted to mankind by Nature. It views love making as a union of body, mind and soul which is a more fulfilling experience and it also act as an emotional bond between husband and wife.

According to Ayurveda, intercourse is the divine process and enjoying it in a relaxed manner leads to a healthy offspring. Pure body and a calm mind is a must for an effective intercourse. Ayurvedic Vajeekarana is one special branch out of eight branches of astanga Ayurveda which particularly deals
with the management of defective semen and spermatogenesis along with sexual potencification (Susrutha. Su 1/8). Vajeekarana is enhancing ones capacity to perform sex like a vaji (horse). The word Vajee in Sanskrit means Horse, and also seminal fluid including spermatozoa. The treatment by which a man becomes as strong like a horse in the sexual act is called
Vajeekarana. The main purpose of Vajeekarana is to increase strength of sexual organs in men, to improve quantity and quality of seminal fluid and to improve fertility of sperm for reproduction. The 3 Doshas in Ayurveda Vata, Pitta and Kapha
A
ncient Indians believed that man is a part of nature, as he evolved from it and ultimately goes back to it. He tried to see the forces of nature as he saw his world in a human body and used it to explain the workings of it. The major forces that he saw and worshiped in nature were the Wind, the Sun and the Moon, and when he incorporated those into the workings of human physiology, he named them the three Doshas, namely Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Ayurveda DoshasIt is said in every major ayurveda texts that the three Doshas maintain the body when they exist in harmony and destroys it when the harmony is lost. The Doshas as assessed in normal subjects to find a yardstick to which
abnormal subjects are compared. The findings from this is used in the treatment of the human body. Since the harmonious state of Doshas is health, the aim of treatment is maintaining that balance to resume the health.
The Doshas:
Vata: Vata is the body factor derived from Wind, thus responsible for the mobile functions in body, in a whole and cellular level. It is responsible for the five senses and all the organ functions. Vata, if increased, causes weakness, loss of weight, constipation, reduced sensory powers etc. In short, Vata is the functional amongst the three Doshas as it propels the body and the other two Doshas.
Pitta: Pitta is the factor which derived from
the Sun, thus the source of energy for the body. The functions of Pitta include processing the food, body heat, knowledge, power, appetite, thirst and the complexion. Increased Pitta causes more appetite and thirst, burning sensation, loss of sleep etc and reduced Pitta causes cold body, loss of appetite and loss of complexion. Its easy to estimate from all these that Pitta is the Dosha responsible for the whole metabolism of body. Kapha: Kapha derives from the Moon, thus represent sustenance. Kapha makes the body strong, well lubricated, strengthen joints and increase the strength of body. Increased Kapha causes tiredness, feeling of cold, looseness of body breathing difficulties and sleepness. Reduced
Heart Attack Triggers V
arious factor trigger a heart attack can actually be found in everyday life, ranging from coffee to air pollution. The amount of the increased risk of heart attack varies depending on the trigger and this is the comparison. Increased risk of heart attack based on the common triggers that can be found in everyday environments are as follows.
The flu affects your entire body, whereas the cold centers on your nose. Colds may start to out to be an irritated nose or a sore throat which is commonly followed by sneezing and runny nose. Congestion appears within a day as the virus develops in your body. The flu comes without any warning and goes straight to a fever, a fever which causes your entire body to ache all over as if you are restless and exhausted.
2. Alcohol
Various heart problems including blockage of blood vessels more often experienced by people who live along the main road. Pollution increases the risk of heart attack up to 3 times within 1 hour.
4. Heavy exercise
Strenuous exercise when done by people who usually did not exercise
April 2011 Edition
Difference Between a Cold and the Flu
They both appear at the start of cold weather, when the temperature may drastically change. If you have a cold, you may be singled out since it is not contagious. Having flu is contagious and you are more likely to be spreading it, or may have received it from someone that you are usually around.
Effects of caffeine is stimulate the heart and increases blood flow to muscles, thereby increasing blood pressure. Coffee addicts average 1.5 more prone to heart attacks within 1 hour after drinking coffee.
3. Traffic Pollution
The three Doshas along with seven Dhatus (building blocks) builds the human body. They are the base on which Ayurveda is built, they explain the physiology of human body and the effects of medicine and food on the body. They maintain balance within themselves and with the external factors of Prakruthi (nature) to make a fruitful life for man. They are the force of life which explain the symbiotic existence between man and the nature.
Although a cold and a flu, or influenza, affect our respiratory system, they are different from one another. The biggest difference is that most colds are usually a lot milder than flu, although some flu viruses have been known to cause mild illnesses.
1. Coffee
Alcohol can also increase blood pressure so that an increase in heart load. Alcoholics are three times more at risk of heart attack within 12 hours after drinking alcoholic beverages.
Kapha is evident by looseness of joints, loss of lubricant etc. Kapha can be called the builder of human body, the sustainer, the one which oils the whole machine.
regularly it will bring danger. For those who rarely exercise, the risk of heart attack during heavy exercise could be increased 3 times compared to a routine exercise.
5. Sexual activity
Heart rate and blood pressure will increase dramatically when someone is having an orgasm, either through masturbation or sexual intercourse. Various sexual activities that increase the risk of heart attack as much as 4 times within 2 hours afterwards.
6. Overeating
Overeating, especially when a lot of fat and salt can also increase blood pressure. As a result of heart attack risk increased 7-fold within 1 hour after eating to satiety.
7. Cocaine
The use of narcotics, particularly cocaine increase heart attack up to 24-fold within 24 hours thereafter. But a recent study published in the journal Lancet shows, air pollution is actually five times more dangerous than cocaine heart.
The sneezing, having a runny nose, or even a sore throat may not appear within the first few days, but later on as the virus develops. A fever in flu may go over 101°F but in a cold it usually stays under that. Having muscle aches and headaches are common, but not severe in colds. The symptoms of colds are more focused on your throat and your nose, compared to the flu which affects your entire body. Stomachs upsets such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea are common in children and some adults when they have flu. Cold do not have such extreme affects on a person’s stomach. Energy wise, colds do not lower a person’s energy level or even affect their regular activities from being completed, whereas flu may make a person exhausted. The length of each is different as well, where a cold may last a week or even less with a week of coughing following after. The flu can take nearly two weeks of just the illness with several weeks afterwards recovering from the coughing and fatigue.

There are certain situations where a child should be monitored for scurvy. Children with eating disorders such as anorexia or children on very limited diets due to food allergies, bad eating habits, infants fed only on cow’s milk during the first year of life are at high risk for vitamin C deficiency.
sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, and citrus juices or juices fortified with Vitamin C, raw and cooked leafy greens (turnip greens, spinach), red and green peppers, potatoes, winter squash, raspberries, blueberries, cranberries and pineapple, papaya, watermelon, winter squash, lemon, amla are all rich sources of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is sensitive to light, air, and heat, so it is best to eat fruits and vegetables raw, or minimally cooked for best Vitamin C absorption.
SYMPTOMS:
HOMEOPATHIC HELP:
Vitamin C deficiency, although rare in more-developed countries today, is a painful and dangerous condition, especially for children.
Sometimes, due to high stress levels, disease, low energy, poor assimilation etc, Vitamin C may not be assimilated into the body at the required levels. Homeopathic remedies assist in the proper assimilation of Vitamin C and other nutrients from food and other sources.
VITAMIN C DEFICIENCY:
V
itamin C is one of the easily available and most useful vitamins for the human body. It is a water-soluble vitamin. This means that the body is unable to store Vitamin C for future use (not fat soluble), hence should be consumed every day. The body is also unable to produce Vitamin C on its own. VITAMIN C FOR CHILDREN: Children should be given a regular and natural supply of Vitamin C. Vitamin C:
• Helps keep colds and flu at bay. It has a preventive effect and colds are less severe even if they get them. • Heals burns and wounds. • Increases the amount of iron absorbed from foods. • Helps in the growth and repair of all tissues and maintains cartilages, bones and teeth. • Maintains healthy immune system function • Maintains healthy gums • Reduces allergy-related conditions, such as asthma, eczema, and hay fever (called allergic rhinitis) • Minimizes side effects from other medicines
