COLONIAL STYLE by Rakel Pariente
Looking to the summer, we can find a style which match quite well with this season of the year, this style is colonial style. It is defined as classical, elegant with some modern taps. This style reminds us a strong primitive personality, mixing classical and exotic cultures with the elegance and modernism of the wealthy families of the S. XVIII in North America, influence by English style.
COLOURS AND MATERIALS With colour and material this style is looking for a natural sense. The most used colours are earth tone, brown or red over a base in white, grey or beige.
The main piece or material is on a light neutral tone, looking for a natural aspect. Wood on pieces, frames and doors should be the principal material with ceramic or stone on the floor. Forge or glass go with other pieces. Bamboo or wicker can appear in small decorative objects. The exotic wood can give a strong personality to the interior spaces.
ACCESORIES AND COMPLEMENTS Complements acquire a higher value than in others styles, due to these elements are responsible of the warmness and naturalness of the spaces or the pieces. Classical complements with lovely and story such as candelabrum, trunks, old suitcases, forged lamps, rugs of natural fibre, linen or cotton curtains (always with neutral colours), including Japanese folding screens. We can also reused old pieces, such as nacre lamps, ceramic objects,....
FABRICS AND TEXTILE
Same as the materials we have to find natural fabrics. Linen or cotton never ever can fail. These fabrics give freshness and a good sensation to the spaces. Natural rugs made by natural fibre or bamboo are other option. If you want an exotic tap a long plentiful hair rug could be another option.
It is true that this style is changing with to modern lines and materials, but still colonial style is a fascinate style, are you ready for the change?
