See story on page 13 ‘A trip of a lifetime’: Honor Flight sends 69 veteran to Washington, D.C. World War II veteran Howard Burnett of Marshall said the Honor Flight trip on April 25 was an emotional reminder of his sacrifice. “When a little 7-yearold girl came up and shook my hand and said, ‘I’m so proud of your service,’ that blew me away; I couldn’t take it,” he said. Burnett was one of 69 veterans who traveled on the Talons Out Honor Flight Mission IV on an allexpense paid, one-day trip to Washington, D.C. where veterans are honored for their sacrifices and are able to spend the day reflecting at the war memorials in the nation’s capital. Also on the trip were Tekonsha veterans Ernest “Ernie” Waffle and Vernon “Pete” Geer. As it turned out, Walton suffered a broken tibia and ankle and his first thought was that he would not be able to play baseball in the spring. Following surgery and winter rehab, Walton is back on the field and is looking forward to college baseball next year. See sports section on pages 39-41
