not pictured: John Knickerbocker, Linda Molpus & Mike Treiger How is it possible that it’s time for the 32nd Annual Swartz Creek Hometown Days Festival? Several of the festival organizers have been working all year long to do the early planning and contracting with the major components of the weekend. Weather permitting we hope to entertain 35,000+ people from throughout Genesee and Shiawassee counties and surrounding areas. It is exciting to see more and more business, social, fraternal, church, civic, and school groups getting involved.in one of Michigan’s BEST festivals. Thursday the fun begins with the Andy Maybik, Jr. Special Day for Special Needs event sponsored by KROGER and ARNOLD’S Amusements. We expect 300+ very special people to enjoy activities usually unavailable to them. Several activities will entertain throughout the entire weekend. Look for the very popular Whispering Pines Traveling Zoo brought to you by the Hometown Days Silent Auction. This show features hundreds of animals including reptiles, birds and mammals. Hey, ‘Who Let The Dogs Out?’ come watch the Ultimate Air Dog Show brought to you by Meijer and Swartz Creek Vision Center. Dogs run down an elevated runway and jump into a pool to retrieve a target. We have not had this type of competition/entertainment before and look forward to some memorable fun. Those sitting close enough may get a refreshing spray. The Agricultural Education Tent will have several Farm type animals and activities

geared to, milk, beef, pork and poultry products, plant growth and more. The returning eggs/baby chicks exhibit is sure to be a hit. Of course the Sagelink Swartz Creek Idol contest is sure to have huge crowds cheering on some talented participants-come see what all the excitement is about. We would like to welcome back Sam’s Club as the ofďŹ cial sponsor of the Pet Adoption Tent, dozens of animals will be begging for a new home. Look for activities in the HAP Community Tent for all ages: babies to senior citizens, check the busy schedule. And who would dare miss the huge Entertainment Tent with various daytime activities and the packed nighttime traditional entertainment. Hear some great(loud) popular music and grab a beverage. And just in case you party too much or sustain an injury AMD Urgent Care is on grounds with a staffed First Aid Tent. Signs throught the grounds are provided by Genysis Credit Union. Friday starts with the Randy Wise Auto Mall and Arnold’s Amusements FREE ride promotion from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. That is followed by the FREE Hometown Farm Breakfast from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Last year we served 1,300 in record time-seriously they are well organized to service large volumes of people through very quickly-we hope for 2,000 this year. What a way to celebrate NO SCHOOL FRIDAY!!!!! Friday at dusk get to the Patsy Lou Automotive

Group Fireworks display (best viewing from the football ďŹ eld). This year’s display is 20% larger than ever before, it should be a real thriller. Saturday starts out with the Sharp Funeral Homes Hometown Parade at 10:00 a.m. right down Miller Road. Pray for sunshine, last year the parade ‘dissolved’ in a deluge rain. All festival activities open at noon. New this year is the Famous Dave’s BBQ contest at Obrien’s Garage front parking lot. We will have great eye candy at the huge car show along Fortino Drive. Catch the last opportunity to enjoy 2016 Hometown Days from noon till six on Sunday. Hometown Days is made possible with literally thousands of hours of UNPAID volunteer time from Board members, Committee members and last minute volunteers and much appreciated hard work. If you see any red shirted(or lime green) volunteers be sure to join me in thanking them for a job well done. They make it possible for us all to enjoy one of Michigan’s best festivals and the unofďŹ cial start of summer. Space here only allows a teaser of information, check for details and last minute updates at: HometownDays. org, our Swartz Creek Hometown Days Facebook page and on Twitter@ SWCRKHTD. Let’s have another safe, fun festival, see you there! Larry Bush, Chairman

ultimate

when dogs fly!

air dogs

This event is generously sponsored by your local Swartz Creek Meijer store and Dr. James English of the Swartz Creek Vision Center Started in 2005 by former Detroit Tigers pitcher Milt Wilcox and his son Brian, Ultimate Air Dogs has soared to the top simply because of a down to earth attitude, grass roots background and the ability to make every competitor feel welcome! The philosophy of Ultimate Air Dogs is all about โ Familyโ . This is not a disciplined sport. Two handlers are allowed on the dock at the same time to help Fido stay and sit. From the smallest jumper to the biggest ultimate high flyer, all breeds (mixed or purebred), any size dogs are encouraged to participate - as long as they can swim! Your dog doesnโ t have to jump 20 feet to get a ribbon! Ultimate Air Dogs created the Divisional Finals, where the top five dogs from each division are invited to compete in the Grand Finale! We put the dogs first by providing more open dock time than any other organization. Whenever possible, our dock is open for practice. If dogs are having difficulty learning, our crew of volunteers will often provide free help between activities. Every Ultimate Air Dog is equally special. All mixes and breeds are welcome! Check out a great video on the Ultimate Air Dogs website: www.ultimateairdogs.com.

IULGD\ MXQH UG Ć• D P WR D P Once again Randy Wise of Randy Wise Auto Mall and Arnold Amusements have teamed up to host two hours of FREE Rides! The really good news is Swartz Creek students don’t have school that day! “It’s really something,â€? says Larry Bush, the event coordinator. “We love kids coming from all the surrounding communities as well as Swartz Creek.â€? Like last year, this event will attract nearly 4,000 kids. Be sure to get up early to enjoy the fun.

When going through the Festival this year, all the Signs you see, were supplied FREE of charge by Genisys Credit Union. Thank You Genisys Credit Union for all your time, and generosity for allowing us to have Beautiful identification signs throughout the Festival. Well Done Genisys Credit Union!

it’s silent auction time!

Over the years the Silent Auction has become very hard to keep silent! It has grown and grown. This year’s event is no exception. More local vendors will donate items for the Silent Auction, from meat grinders to bikes to lawn furniture - this auction has it all! Bidding is fun and easy. Stop by the desk in front of the Auction Tables and get a bidding number. That’s all there is to it. The Auction is held in the Expo Tent. This tent is very close to Morrish Road on the Kincaid property. Auction times are Friday, June 3rd. from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday, June 4th. from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 5th. from noon to 2:00 p.m. All bids are stopped at exactly 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. After the closing bell, the winners are contacted to pick up their prizes. Come on down and bid on your favorite selection! Credit cards welcome.

dinner & entertainment Thursday evening, June 2nd., officially kicks off the 2016 Swartz Creek Hometown Days Festival. This is an appreciation dinner honoring sponsors, media, community supporters and our volunteers. The dinner and entertainment is by invitation only. The bash takes a lot of work and manpower to make this happen. However, a special volunteer named Daneen Fick has made it look so easy for the past eight years. The entertainment actually started nine weeks earlier. A Karaoke Contest was held at Bubba O’Malley’s, which over the nine week period produced 16 top contestants. These 16 contestants are the finalists, competing at the Kick Off Bash. We would like to thank the restaurants that make this delicious dinner possible. A big thank you goes out to our sponsors and volunteers. Thank you for making Swartz Creek Hometown Days one of the top festivals in Michigan!

festival “making it happen It takes many people willing to volunteer their time and effort to make sure the Swartz Creek Hometown Days Festival runs as smoothly as possible. Chris Treiger, Volunteer Director for the festival, literally has her hands full coordinating the schedule of 100 plus volunteers. Chris says “We couldn’t have such a great festival without them. Every single volunteer is critical to the success of this festival. If you would like to volunteer, log on to www. hometowndays.org, click on the forms tab and select Volunteer Information. You can also stop by the festival grounds Volunteer Tent. A special thank goes out to Cook’s Diesel Repair and Mundy Township Volunteer Police. Their time and talent are essential.

On Friday, June 3rd. at dusk, an incredible fireworks show will be held at the Swartz Creek High School football field at 1 Dragon Drive. A highlight of the Swartz Creek Hometown Days weekend is the fireworks show - one you will not soon forget.

Atomic Betty are four DUDES that work very hard during the week, and then enjoy getting together as much as possible to play local venues, and enjoy helping out with many benefits in the area.

Patsy Lou Williamson Automotive Group has underwritten the cost of this fabulous event.

This concert will benefit Swartz Creek Middle School’s “Giving Tree program. The “Giving Tree program directly supports students and their families at the Middle School in Swartz Creek.

balloon man cometh! How about a Giant Dragon made out of 100’s of Balloons? Brian Getz comes to us from Indianapolis, Indiana, and will be making his appearance at this years Hometown Days Festival. He’s also known as the Balloon Man. Throughout the Festival, Brian will be making balloon characters for all to enjoy. During the four day event, the Balloon Man will also be working on the completion of a Giant Dragon. Be sure to check out his progress during the Festival. The Balloon Man will be everywhere! You’ll see him during the parade, at the Special Day for Special Needs Event, the V.I.P. Kickoff Bash just to name a few locations. Brian will also be roaming the grounds, ready to make your favorite character. Larry Bush, Chairman of the Festival, says the Balloon Man is fast and fabulous when it comes to his amazing Balloon skills. Have fun, and be sure to have Brian make a prize balloon for you! These service volunteers are an integral part of the success of our festival. Their time and dedication assure a safe and fun environment for those attending the festival.
