hornapple Manor resident Glennis Norrell receives the first official welcome from staff to her new home at the Cottages at Thornapple Manor, the new 23-bed, 23,000-square-foot skilled-nursing facility designed and furnished according to the latest research on dementia patient care. With facilities and programming allowing residents to help staff with cooking, laundry and recreational activities, The Cottages will offer residents the home-like and family setting key to dementia care. 1. As described in last week’s news, the Barry-Roubaix Gravel Road Race will start and finish in Hastings today (Saturday). The race promoters expect around 3000 bikers and another 2000 spectators from the Untied States & Canada to be in town. In addition to the race there will be a free street party, a Founders Beer Tent, entertainment, vendor tents, food and more in Downtown Hastings. Check out the schedule and enjoy the fun. 2. Don’t forget to visit the race and give a big cheer for Kevin Dickinson, riding the Med Bike in the Chiller division representing Bosley Pharmacy. 3. The Pierce Cedar Creek Institute celebrates Easter and the arrival of spring with their annual brunch next Sunday, March 31 with seating times of 11:30am & 1pm. The brunch menu will feature an expanded menu including a prime rib carving station, more entrees & more desserts. This is a great way to celebrate the holiday, but remember holiday brunches are especially popular so be sure to sign up soon. Pre-registration & pre-payment are required. You can check out the menu at 269-721-4198 or on line at www.cedarcreekinstitute.org. The Brunch Program on Easter Sunday,12:15 pm is free to all, brunch attendance is not required. The Hastings Public Library will use stories, music, songs & playtime about jokes – “What a hoot.” If you have questions call Miss Piggy at the library 945-4263. Toddler story time is Tuesdays at 10:30am & PreSchool Story Time is on Fridays at 10:30am. The Movies Memories & Milestone feature this Thursday 5-8pm is “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” (1947) starring Gene Tierney, Rex Harrison and George Sanders in a romantic fantasy. These programs, as are all library programs, are free and open to all. 5. For as long as most of us can remember there has been a Good Friday Cross Walk in Hastings. You are invited to participate this Friday morning as the walk kicks off at 9:30am from Grace Lutheran Church on North Street, walks around town and returns to the church. It takes about one hour and you can walk the entire route or you can join the group for as long as you like or as your schedule permits. The group walks together, carrying a cross and in silence to “provide an opportunity for reflection for the world and for all people.” The walk is open to all ages and to all faiths. The Hastings Cinema 4 Theater Free Movie Weekends continues today, Saturday & Sunday with 9am & 10am showings of “Rise of the Guardians.” Next weekend’s feature will be “Madagascar 3.” Admission is free to all.
