he ninth annual Thornapple Arts Council Jazz Festival is coming to Hastings starting the evening of April 12 and running through April 14. The Thornapple Jazz Orchestra will kick off the festivities by taking the stage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, along with guest vocalist Edye Evans-Hyde, at the Hastings First Presbyterian Church on North M-37. The Pierce Cedar Creek Institute celebrates the season with their famous Easter Brunch next Sunday, April 8, with seating times at 11:30am & 1pm. The free brunch program this Sunday (open to all, you do not need to attend brunch to attend the program) is “North Country Trail Association” discussing the trail, part of which travels through the lower & upper peninsulas of Michigan. The 9th annual Thornapple Jazz Festival is just two weekends away (April 12-14) and will feature dozens of jazz bands throughout Downtown Hastings all three days. Most performances are free. The Barry County Chamber of Commerce is organizing the first annual Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball tournament in Downtown Hastings on June 30 & July 1. Putting on an event like this requires many volunteers from our community and the Chamber will sponsor a Gus Macker Volunteer Round-up this Tuesday, April 3 from 5:30 - 7pm in the Pennock Hospital Conference Center. The Hastings Public Library Winter Reading Club “Words Are Like Snowflakes” continues through April.
