ike the magic spell NBA star Lebron James creates before Miami Heat games, committee members who helped organize next weekend’s Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament in downtown Hastings do their own christening of the event that’s billed as the hottest mass-participation sport in America. The two-day affair will be the first area visit for the Macker Tournament that started as a driveway tourney in Lowell amongst 18 friends in 1974 and has since toured to over 75 cities where more than 2.2 million players of various ages, shapes and abilities have played to the delight of more than 23 million spectators. The local affair kicks off Saturday morning, and, by the time final trophies are awarded on Sunday, thousands of players and fans will have visited and contributed to the economy and to local charities.
