Lake Odessa resident who grew up on a farm in Carlton Township will receive nine military medals, 67 years after he hung up his U.S. Army uniform at the close of World War II. When Stan Strickland was making pre-planned funeral arrangements recently, the funeral home representative learned that Strickland had never received the medals he earned while serving in Europe. That prompted an effort to see that Strickland would receive his due honor. A special ceremony will be held today, May 26, at 2 p.m. at the Lake Odessa Area Historical Society Freight House Museum. Sen. Judy Emmons, State Rep. Mike Callton and Lt. Col. Jason Awadi will award the long-overdue medals and join family and friends to honor Strickland for his service to the nation. A luncheon will follow at Lake Odessa VFW Post 4461, Jackson-Mutschler.
