ocal musician Nick Caster has overcome many obstacles to get where he is today, stemming from being abandoned by his mother at an early age. He fought the loneliness he was feeling when he was introduced to the magical world of music one day by some caring musicians in, of all places, prison. After being incarcerated for three years, Caster emerged a new man, wanting to establish himself in the music world and also spread the word of God through his songs. 1. Next Saturday is the day to bundle up and get out and walk to earn those pledges you have collected. February 28th The Community Action Agency is helping to keep Barry County Residents warm. In this especially severe winter they are helping low-income, disabled and elderly residents who are having trouble staying warm and keeping up with their heating bills by again sponsoring the annual Hastings-Walk for Warmth. The walk begins at the Barry Enrichment Center in Downtown Hastings at 9a.m. and goes until 1p.m. You may walk alone or gather friends and family to form a team to collect pledges and walk in the event. Your participation is much appreciated and you can be sure that the funds raised in Barry County are used to help Barry County residents only. 2. The 18th Annual Barry County Pheasants Forever Banquet is next Saturday, February 28th at Ever After Banquet Hall. The doors open at 5p.m. for the buffet dinner and they will be giving away hundreds of prizes. You need to sign up for the dinner and raffles and time is getting short. The Barry County Humane Society will be offering $20.00 discount certificates to Barry County residents towards the spaying or neutering of cats and dogs on February 24 between 9a.m. and 6p.m. Either call their office at 945-0602 or 269804-9801 or stop by their office, located in the lower level of the Barry County Enrichment Center at 231 S. Broadway in Hastings. More than one certificate can be issued to each pet owner. 4. It might just be time to get out and go to a show! The Middleville Village Players' Dinner Theater will be presenting “Alibis” February 27th and 28th. Tickets are $30 each and sold first come first served or by reservations with the doors opening at 6p.m, dinner is at 7p.m. and the show starts at 8p.m. The show is being put on at the Yankee Springs Golf Course Legacy Restaurant, 12300 Bowens Mill Road, Wayland. For more information call 269-795-030 Sunday 11a.m. to 3p.m., Thursday through Saturday 4-9p.m. See if you can figure out “who-dun-it”! 5. Another chance to see a show is coming next week at Central Elementary Auditorium for the Hastings High School Spring Play. I know it probably won't exactly feel like spring, but its definitely worth getting out to see. Matt Callaghan and Todd Willard along with the talented students of Hastings High School will be putting on “Once Upon a Mattress”. It's the classic tale of finding the princess who is good enough to marry the prince. It will be a great time for the whole family. Performances for the musical are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, February 26, 27, 28 at 7p.m. as well as a performance on Saturday, February 28 at 3p.m. Tickets are available to purchase at The General Store, Hastings Family Fare, Kings Appliances, and all Hastings Area Schools. 6. How do you feel about making pottery? If you are thinking it might be fun, Pierce Cedar Creek Institute has what you are looking for next Saturday. The workshop is from 1-3p.m. And everyone will be able to form and decorate a pinch pot. The Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade along with The Grand Opening of The General Store are right around the corner. So much to do! The weather will surely warm up by then, don't you think?
