or 20 years, pharmacist Dave Jasperse, in his Bosley Pharmacy “South Jefferson Street News” column, contrived convoluted reasons why a fictitious St. Patrick’s Day parade in Hastings fell through, repeatedly. Then, in 2005, all of that blarney was pushed aside as the “Biggest Little St. Patrick’s Day Parade” came to fruition and marched up and down South Jefferson Street to the delight of hundreds of fun-seekers. Jasperse was the grand marshal of that first parade and is again receiving the honor Tuesday. A businessman for more than 40 years, a behind-the-scenes philanthropist and member of the Hastings City Council for 39 years, Jasperse (seated) is shown in front of his new South Jefferson Street business venture, The General Store. He is surrounded by employees (from left) Conner Hays, Kathy Dayus, Tom Krul, his wife Emily Jasperse, Jody Peterson, Lindsey Miller and Josey Curcio. For more information about the parade, Jasperse, and the annual tale of woe that grew more elaborate and complicated each year — and how it all came to fruition — look inside.
