roving that color blooms in any garden, including one that climbs the shed wall, Mary Purchase turns her green thumb to one of many colors when she nurtures these beauties made of glass. Mary, whose gardens -- both natural and glass -- will be one of five on display during the 18th annual ‘Day in the Garden’ tour sponsored by the Thornapple Garden Club on Saturday July 11. The whimsical glass flowers are Mary’s endorsement of the recycling movement which will be evident in the efforts of all gardens on this year’s tour. Mary recycles vintage glass plates, cups, tiny bowls and other tableware into creating these fine creations. She’s also purchased additional glass flowers from Janet Smith and has had Barb Benner paint the stems and leaves. All are members of the Thornapple Garden Club and all look forward to this year’s tribute to the summer growing season. The garden club’s booth at the Garden Thyme Market on the lawn at the Barry County Courthouse is another “must” stop for garden tourists. Tour tickets with maps are available throughout the area and can be purchased on the day of the tour at the Thornapple Garden Club booth.
