Isokon Donkey
The Isokon Donkey is a small piece of domestic furniture designed to efficiently store a variety of items. My design is for a lounge environment, where it can hold a laptop, magazines, books etc, as well as having a large usable top surface. To stay true to the Isokon Donkey's overall form and flexibility of use I drew inspiration from the panier style storage. This piece has no wasted space, and an intriguing form, so follows on from the previous Donkeys.
Producing this prototype was relatively easy, due to the simple assembly. This design uses CNC cut panels and laminations, therefore giving it an accurate and repeatable production This design comprises of a centre assembly, which can be assembled quickly using the CNC cut housing joints. The side laminations both use the same mould to be shaped, and then one is flipped to give the sculptural unsymmetrical design.
Isokon Donkey
To design this donkey, I used sketch modelling and SolidWorks CAD modelling. These sketch models show some of my first ideas, which all exhibit my fundamental design aspects; the overall donkey form, a single large shape, and fully utilising the space. This design efficiently uses the space and has flexible storage spaces, so can hold a wide variety of items. The CAD render shows further development of the design after speaking to the client. It features much smaller legs and the main body section being flipped horizontally, making it a sculptural coffee table with storage.
Remit Stool
The brief was to design a piece for London based furniture manufacturer SCP, who prodominantly make simple modernist furniture in small batches using high quality materials. The piece should fit within their 2018 boxed collection, and should therefore be fully assembled and be small enough to be easily carried away from the store, or delivered by domestic post.
Remit Stool
This small stool can be used as a footstool, side table, seat or step stool, making it suitable for a nomadic lifestyle. The solid ash legs and seat panels provide inherent value within the piece. When being used as a footstool, the angled back provides a form which the foot can rest against.

Borromean Bench System
This bench system comprises of 2 pieces, a seat and a table height bench. The taller ones bridge over the seats and can be used as an armrest, table or as somewhere to lean while waiting.
Borromean Bench System
The benches can be arranged in any way to suit the space, and create visul impact from above. The benches are all upholstered, but the higher one can be veneered wood or uphostered.

Fissure Glasses
The Fissure glasses are drinking vessels which fit into a crack in my family dining room table. Since my family is now fragmented, as the children grow up and move away, these glasses represent each family member, and can nestle into the table at home perfectly when the family gathers. When separated, the glasses sit at a slight angle, due to the protrusion; this acts as a subtle reminder of home.
The concrete plinths are cast as a single piece then broken apart, so they fit together perfectly, and allow the glass sit straight when away from the home table.

Woodturned sycamore
Cold cast aluminium
This is representative of my passion for woodturning and working with native timbers.
This piece is representative of my brother who is interested in technology and minimalist aesthetics.
Cold cast bronze This is for my mother who collects contemporary bronze sculptures.
Manufacturing my pieces using moulded concrete, and cold cast metal in a silicone mould. The metal cups were buffed on a buffing wheel. All my moulds can be used repeatedly with little deterioration per casting.
Birch Texture Handle
This brief was created from research I undertook on texture and its effect on the user. The results showed a preference for natural textures, such as hand carved wood, bark and wood splits. The brief required a product to be designed which used texture for a function. This handle is designed to use the texture to provide enough grip for the handle to be pulled, whereby the shape would normally make the function of the handle difficult.
Birch Texture Handle
To include the natural texture preference expressed in the research, a birch bark texture was selected for its recognisable pattern, and relatively smooth texture, compared to more coarse bark species.
A handle was shaped in wood, maintaining the bark side intact, then cast in silicone to create a multi-use mould. An Aluminium and resin mix was cast into the mould creating a solid metal effect handle, which could be tapped for screw attachments.
