With the main problem being the sitting and getting up motion by elderly users, our design focuses on the facilitation of this movement through using a powered attachment that safely lowers and raises the user into the ideal position for bowel movements, and back into a standing position. We wanted to make sure the design remained friendly and conveying the message of “this is a toilet, and also make sure the product is easy to use without much assistance or additional instruction. Through creating a design that is an attachment instead of a full new toilet system, the affordability of the product is much higher, which increases the likelihood that an elderly person would spend for this much need aid. And because it is so easy to use without changing the original lifestyle of the user, the likelihood of its application and usage is also increased.
