We operate as a collective, instead of separate individuals, hence one toyist cannot be seen as more important or famous than the other. There is no rivalry among the artists.
The evident message we carry out is that the artworks count, not the artist itself that has created it. Although the artists do make their own art, in many occasions we work together, which means that the produced artwork cannot be attributed to a single artist.

Toyism was created in 1990 when I made a graphic composition with the title “Escape of the Computer Spiders”. This graphic work consists of a powerful play of lines that merge into areas which on the one hand are standalone but on the other hand lead to entirely new forms. A playful display of colors and the combination of figurative and abstract forms forces the viewer to embark on a quest within the labyrinth of lines and colours. Large computers

transform into spiders and are in search of reality. This and several similar works that followed were the origin of the toyism style in the early nineties. The toyism style can be divided into two periods. Periods, which both artistically and personally differ greatly; the first period lasted about 7 years (19922000),and the second period is from 2002 up to the present.
1992
The first period can most easily be described as a trio that often operated and functioned as a duo. Exhibitions were centrally organised from my gallery in Emmen. The figurative paintings were simplistic in design, in surrealistic themes, and often painted in lively and bright colors. An important element in this period was the recurrence of a fixed ‘logo’ (computer, space shuttle, teddy bear) in each painting. This recurring ‘logo’, which I later considered a limitation, is in fact one of the reasons that the style became recognizable. In a playful
manner the logo was included in the theme; polevaulting spaceshuttles, or computers producing fried eggs. Everything was possible. 2001 was a transitional year. Toyism as a group of three no longer existed. It was over and done with. Goals for the future were contradictory and views on growth and development were no longer shared. Each went his own way. It was time for reflection.
«For me as the spiritual father of toyism I held fast to this style and felt that what had transpired could lead to new insights and opportunities.» Dejo

But the manifesto written by me in 1992 did not longer up to my expectations. I went on a trip through Asia, got a lot inspiration of the people and their culture and rewrote a great number of points in the manifesto giving toyism a new vision and ideas.
This is also the reason why all the current toyist artists paint under a pseudonym: they appear anonymous, yet form part of the toyism as a whole and collectively represent it..
The year 2002. The highly egocentric character deeply rooted in the arts became the basis for another ideology; the individual would play second fiddle to the group without sacrificing on the personal level or in quality.
The current toyism consists of a close-knit and talented international group of artists with different backgrounds but at the same time with like-minded views of how to experience this art and inspire each other. What makes toyism for us so interesting is that each artist, no matter what their background or As the sole remaining advocate of toyism I went belief, can express themselves in this style without in search of new sympathizers, much like I did in losing their own value or feeling. Whether his/her 1992; a mixed group of professional artists from interest is painting, carving, clothing and jewelry around the world with diverse cultural backgrounds, design, drawing or transforming buildings, everyone working in various disciplines, who can influence retains their own character, and the different and enrich the style and, importantly, who put the themes brought forward give new insights and art in the forefront and not themselves. As an artist thereby strengthen the common ideas. you have the privilege to tell your own story and depict it, and you are in the position to do so. That Язык тоизма gives you a feeling of freedom. If you are able to combine this freedom with other soulmates a bond The language of toyism tells us how you can reflect and interpret feelings and emotions with lines and is created, an intrinsic magic that benefits and dots, and how you can use colours and forms to inspires each other express the story. Post 2000 toyistic art shows a strong sense of more than just the global issues that Анонимность и псевдонимы affect our times, it also reflects the pleasure that we have in life. From ecology and environmental This was among other things the basis for the pollution to our love for the Earth and the animals… current toyism. A strong cooperation between Of wars, and yet the hope for world peace… From people who can dissociate themselves from the the inner, individual struggle to the quest for selfego that has too deeply penetrated our society. improvement

Toyism is more than ever an art style with a message. Stories are revealed by means of symbols, bright colours and extremely precise details. The work of the toyists focuses strongly on the observer, with whom they wish to establish an interaction by the awareness of communal, social or psychological mechanisms. In the border area between fantasy and reality a play on stories and images is created, which encourages a further journey of discovery.

Creating and examining art is a serious business and therefore by definition, cannot involve playing. This is the misconception of those who think that art is constant: the character of art and the role of the artist are as changeable as the weather.

As everything in art as well as politics and sport revolves around the individual, the toyists elect to appear in a group and herein for anonymity. Each one has taken on a pseudonym and portrays himself as a cartoon-type figure. Announcements are made public in the form of printed texts and manifestos without appearing in the media.

Art Academy CABK Kampen Holland. Started in 1990 an art gallery in Emmen. Netherlands. Founder and writer of the manifesto “Mother that has served for the foundation of the art movement Toyism in 1992. Dejo organised many exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad. Next to being an artist he is active as a designer, a writer and as a musician.
FIHI Fihi graduated in 2000 at the Academy for Expressive Arts in Tilburg. Her majors are graphics and painting. She has worked in different styles, using her own name, since. One of the Toyists noticed a painting of hers, saw a potential Toyist in her and that is how she got in contact with the group. She decided to join and is currently busy working with toyist paintings
QOOIMEE Qooimee is an Icelandic Jane of all trades, being educated and graduated as a jazz musician, but only music cannot soothe her needs for expressing through arts. She started making her jewelry using the technical knowledge learned through her education as a dental technician and dusted her pencils and started drawing again. Then her eyes were drawn to Toyism, those alluring and deceptively simple forms drew her in and engulfed her, only to persuade her that through Toyism, she can express herself.
GIHILI My name is Gihili. I connect impetus with the frames of life that are raised. Toyism is a style in which I can project my feelings. My preference now is making sculptures. I have the best teacher you could wish for, Toyist Srylyn.
HRIBSO Hribso graduated from The Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest. After graduation he worked as an illustrator for various publishers, collaborated with comics in numerous magazines and worked for a while in a cartoon studio in Bucharest. Toyism was love at first sight. As soon as he saw the first toyist work he said: Behold the movement I want to follow all my life! It’s playful, it’s colorful, it’s fun. So, for Mr. Hribso, toyism is the toy he always wanted.

ROQ It was after a predestinated re-encounter between the reassuring Dejo and himself that convinced Roq of his abilities towards expressing his creativity within Toyism. Although he never had followed any course of the Arts, he never has had a shortage of any ideas whatsoever, either. He had worked with Dejo for years, before. During the first mentioned trade, music. Therefore, they know each other very well. The openness, cooperation and collaboration are the foremost important reasons for Roq to join Toyism. Being the software developer that he is, designing is a part of his daily job. He is convinced that creating a piece of art can be compared to coming up with an invention. He also feels that composing a painting, like those of the Toyists’, resembles a musical composition. The beholder of a beautiful mind can result to sounds of everlasting songs and magnificent paintings if the right technique is applied. Roq is looking forward to sharing his creations actively with this enthusiastic group of artists.

Project “Dreams for Breakfast” is the second major project of the Toyists, after the painting of the gasholder “The Dot” in 2010. In april 2012 the Toyists started with the painting of the outside of Hotel Ten Cate. During five weeks the hotel was hiding behind a huge scaffolding with canvases, on which the names of the sponsors were mentioned. In total 55 companies from Emmen have contributed to the project “Dreams for Breakfast”. 13 Toyists have expressed their creativity from early morning until late at night on the 600 m2 facade of the building, so that on May 16, the canvasses were dropped, under the leadership of beautiful music of DJ Steff da

Campo. With a final result the first Toyism hotel in the world! Narrative: Two courting people are surrounded by – or even seem to be composed of – fine delicacies that a hotel offers to its guests; croissants & curly butter, fried eggs, coffee & cupcakes, strawberries, cherries, a melon, a French bread and red wine. The beloved couple has left its clothes in the suitcase under which the coat hanger dangles, the female firmly holds the key to their room and the pair is accompanied by some dreamwalkers. Try to discover the cheese, an essential element to every breakfast.
Both the northern and southern side of the building show the face of the ‘sleeping beauty’, surrounded with her dreams. The northern side represents the horse riding angel that has visited Charles the Great in a dream and ordered him to steal, as described in the legend of ‘Charles and Elegast’, it looks as if this angel is trying to steal our dreams. The sleeping beauty at this side is dreaming about the coming success of the local zoo of Emmen, that is subject to be rebuilt. She fantasises a hippo, a banana transformed to a monkey, some ducks en sheeplike clouds. Sheep can also be found at the southern side of the hotel. This side is dedicated to what is probably the oldest village of the Netherlands, Noordbarge. The gingerbread man stands in front of the traditional bread oven. The
sleeping beauty on this side of the building wears a chicken on her head that has laid a beautiful egg and on which the cockerel proudly watches over. The chocolate brown cow is of course not forgotten. All these products form the basic ingredients for many delightful dishes the hotel has to offer. The project “Dreams for Breakfast” told of course about sleeping and eating, but also about the imminent new Zoo Emmen and the old village Noordbarge. So there are multiple themes incorporated in the building. Also now one room is ready, the “Dance of Love”, a super romantic room which is fully painted, including ceiling and doors!

The Dot Project is accomplished through commissioning by the “Living Industry” foundation in cooperation with the municipality of Emmen, the Province of Drenthe, Enexis and Holland Coating. In addition to these four fundamental themes, there is a single, central figure: the tree. The tree is a metaphor for life, energy, growth, development, and change. There are four sub-designs used. Each sub-design presents the combination or contrast of old and new forms of energy production and their applications (the sciences)
The design: 4 energy sources 1. Solar Energy 2. Wind Power 3. Hydropower 4. Raw Material Energy
24
1. Solar Energy An old form of the use of solar energy is photosynthesis; the mechanism by which plants and trees grow due to water and carbon dioxide from the air being converted into glucose. A new form is the collection of solar energy with the help of solar panels. An application is the (hybrid) car (economic science), which is charged by electricity that is again generated by solar panels. Houses are also heated by solar energy. As the rays of the sun strike the roof of the farm, energy is collected by the solar panel window. 2. Wind Power Old: the traditional windmill, where the power of the wind is converted into mechanical labour, namely for grinding grain. Link the mill with bread, and crumbs are carried by the wind to the modern wind turbines where the kinetic energy of the air is converted into, for example, electricity (new). One of the windmills blows wind into the sail of the boat, while the cabin forms from the roof of the farm. Another windmill in bird form imitates a giraffe affording a panoramic view of new applications for the future. 3. Hydropower Old: using paddles to transfer the current of water into rotational energy a watermill, just like the old windmill, has a direct application, namely the grinding of grain or the pressing of oil. New: hydrogen as fuel. Hydrogen fueled cars are much cleaner for the environment. A large dolphin emerges from the water. Drops of water turn into goldfish and salmon. 4. Raw Material Energy Old: coal, peat and oil. The prehistoric nodding donkeys obtain fossil fuel from the ground. The elephant stomps the ground while a huge dinosaur emerges in the background. New: bio fuels, nuclear energy. A nuclear power station discharges clouds of smoke that fly through the air like atoms. Biogas as a clean fuel: cars that run on biogas that is extracted from the ‘excrements’ of the piggy bank. Springing from the ancient peat bogs as the lifeblood and central focal point of the design is the red tree, which forms the basis for new and green energy forms. The electrical sockets in the tree deliver green power. In addition, in the form of standalone motifs, general applications or containers of energy such as ecobunny lights and battery-insects can be seen moving throughout the whole painting.

The toyism movement is ambiguous. While other movements emphasize the importance of rejecting, toyism focuses on embracing instead. Some art movements exhibit at only museums and galleries; others say that all worthy art must be in the streets. Toyism accepts both.
