Academy of Science Design Studio: Architecture II This studio is sub-named the “Urban Design� studio, as this is the first time we get exposed to designing within an urban setting. This studio is designed towards the perception of a building more than itself, is to look at a building and its functions within its context. For this project, a city was chosen and within that city was to be selected a conflicted site, that site was to be resolved by an architectural intervention. The city chosen for my proposal was Venice, the particular site was the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, pre-existing historical spaces on this site include the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore by Andrea Palladio as well as the Refactory also by Palldio and the Maggiore Monastery.

SITE STUDIES
The proposal for the intervention in this site was a Academy of Science, two elements were to be taken in relation to the chosen city, in my case the two elements were water and earth. Those two elements were to be articulated into two spaces in the academy, water into an aquarium, and earth into a greenhouse. The main concept used for the articulation of the Academy of Science was the concep of the “The City as a Monastery” from Collin Rowes’ writings. The building becomes an “L” shape that connects Palladio’s famous Refactory at the existing San Giorgio Maggiore to the dormitory section of the monastery, this master” plan idea was that of turning the whole island into a monastery in terms of its spatial transition, the island consisted of pre-exising strcutures such as the: Churc of San Giorgio Maggiore of course, the Tearo Verde, The Cinni Foundation and the Manica Lunga, along with the new Academy of Science the Island would become an Art complex that would offer all of the arts, all comunicated just like a monasery.

Arlington Museum of Art: Addition
Basic Design + Draw II This project seeks to have an addition adjacent to the existing Arlington Museum of Art, this was going to bring a building to the site that served as an addition but also function on its own, having its own entry, and facilities separate from the pre-existing bulding. The Process for the designof this additon stated with two plates, the first one had three hirerachically organized grounds, primary, secondary, and terciary. The second plate was apporached by adding elements to the first one from a precedent, mine was the Exeter Library by Louis Kahn, elements from the plan as well as the section were added to the composition. This would later become the footprint for my design of the addition, and those three grounds would be extruded to become the volumes that would constitute my proposal. The final and main volume was a square that housed all of the program, the Galleries, the classroms, the offices, the restaurant and the giftshop.

Astronomer’s Lodge Design Studio I Architecture I The Astronomer’s Lodge is located in Fort Davis, Texas in the McDonalds’s Observatory. This project is a renovation of the old obsarvatory into a more modern intervention, the project also required the addition of more indivisual rooms as well as a group due to the large amounts of people that were gathering to the see the new telescope that was fairly new, this also atracted a large number of renowned Astronomers and masters in other related fields. My rennovation included a new central building that housed all of the public spaces, the lobby, the restaurant, a gymnasium for the guests, on the entry level. on th lower level, there was the gruop room for the large amounts of people that would occasionally gather, school trips, conventions, etc. This lower level also had a classroom for activities along with a reading room adjacent to it for educational purposes. Four suites were added to the complex for the astronomers or professionals of other related fileds.

Kane’s Residence: Design Studio I Architecture I This project was to design a residence for a married couple. The husband was a carpenter and the wife was an architect. The program for the residence included: a woodshop for the husband separate from the house, a studio for the wife that incorporated the aspect of natural light, and guest rooms for when their sons came to spend time with them. The site of the house was a hill, therefore; the design was apporached through the steepness of the site itself. The main spaces of the house were located in a two story cube shaped structure, with a double volume over the living area, entertainment area and the bedroom would have a lookout from the second floor to this volume. In that same platform, the studio for the wife was located on the south elevation, a glass curtain wall covered this elevation along with a Brise-Soleil to provide with shading in certain times of day.

Uptown Loft BIM
Collectors’ Library Basic Design + Draw I
This project was called the Collector’s House, for this house we were to select a type of collection, for my design the collection was sculptures. The program for the house had to include but was not limited to: a kitchenette, a bathroom, a main space that had to include a double volume, that would serve as the exibition space for the particular collection and last but not least a loft on the second floor that overlooked the exibition space. a balcony coming out of the exinition space had to be included also and natural light had to incorporated into the design.
