With a collection of scrap wood we create a form that we call a scraposition that goes from a physical model to a digital model. As a class we collaborated and shared our digital models to add, subtract or merge to create interesting forms. Through AutoCAD and Illustrator we can bring life to it digitally by adding new forms, changing line weights or live painting the entire model to give it depth. Ultimately, this project helps one understand how softwares can help bring physical models to life and how merging simple forms can create a complex shape.

With the motion tower as reference, a structural space is created to fulfill three common rituals that humans need to function: eat, bathing and sleeping. We’re challenged to create a space from scratch using selected points from the tower that will give us a form. With the help of AutoCAD and Illustrator, section and plans are created to represent how the space coexists with the three rituals.

In this project we are tasked to design a bookstore with a retail component using an existing space in Downtown San Jose. The first step is choosing a concept which develops into the retail component and how the space is used. Research is done in respect to the site surroundings to ensure a successful design. With the help of Revit and Adobe softwares we were able to bring a single concept to life through floor plans, sections and renders.
music + bookstore
BOOKSTORE + MUSIC
The first step was dividing into groups with the task to brainstorm concepts that bring people together. We thought about ourselves, how the three of us come from different places and how together combined have visited several countries. We picked up a world map and from there we pinpointed places we have been, where we are from and more which ended up giving us interesting geometric shapes. With that, we created our concept model which has six individual colorful pieces that represent diversity and uniqueness.
Music as the retail component made the most sense as it ties well with books and the idea of culture and diversity. As we know, music has a variety of genres along with books and perhaps is the most exciting way to bring people together. With my concept model, I will be using its colors and geometric shapes to bring life and uniqueness to my custom music and reading booths.
SITE ANALYSIS
Located in the heart of downtown San Jose, the existing site sits right in front of busy W Santa Clara street. It’s in a prime location where many job industries, tourists and students reside within a radius of 1 mile. The site itself, once KBM Hogue, an office furniture store consists of one floor and a mezzanine along with a large storefront.

The sequence tower is cleverly brought to life through a series of ten still images that capture the motion of a human holding a box while doing different actions. With the still images, I was able to create notation drawings that helped capture a unique sequence based on ten motions. With the ten motion images and notation drawings, I was able to create my tower by using wooden dowels.

In this project, we are challenged to think about gorillas as the main user of a space and how they will interact with a rock that can improve their lifestyle within their enclosure. Through extensive research, test models and orthographics we create a rock that is multi-functional and gives the gorilla the chance to decide how to use it.

SITE PLAN ANALYSIS
The site of the enclosure is located at the San Francisco Zoo in the Jones Family Gorilla Preserve with the size of almost an acre. There are four viewing areas in which humans can observe gorillas interacting around the enclosure. Within these areas, visitors can find seating, interactive educational signage, and other visual graphics.

My classmate and I were given the task to create a rock that can potentially improve the way of living for the western lowland gorillas. Through research, we learned that western lowland gorillas enjoy their privacy and enjoy to take in the sun when they can. This led us to create a rock design that is multi-functional and specifically catered to improve their lives within their enclosures.
