The ranch is within Colorado Hunt Unit 214, and deer, elk, and bear tags were available during the 2024 season. In addition, there are USFS, BLM, and Colorado State Land access areas in close proximity to the ranch, including Jimmy Dunn Gulch State Trust Land.

FISHING

There is no fishing on site, but within 2 miles of the ranch, there is public wading access to the Yampa River and the Yampa River Pump House boat access. Many drift boats and rafts use this access point for a spectacular 7-mile “ freestone” float through one of the largest cottonwood habitats in Colorado. Takeout is at the Hayden State Park campground. There are multiple river access points upstream and downstream along the Yampa River corridor.

AREA HISTORY

Black Cat at 480 Ranch is only minutes from the former bustling coal mining town of Mount Harris. Established in 1914, this coal mining town with a population of 1,500± included a school, church, hospital, post office, and even a baseball field.
