The name “Burnt Mill Road” originated from a grist mill on the St. Charles River. Peter K. Dotson owned the Dotson Ranch, a notable cattle ranch currently known as the 3R Ranch. Dotson had two grist mills, one on his ranch and one along the St. Charles River further east, powered by a water wheel dipping into the flowing river. Dotson had been a Utah wheat farmer before moving to the Beulah area. During his time in Utah, he had developed a fondness for whiskey and learned to distill it. So, after he built his grist mill on the St. Charles River, he built a whiskey still next to it. One unfortunate day, the still blew up and started a fire that burnt the grist mill. After that, Dotson began to refer to the mill as the Burnt Mill, and the name stuck. Eventually, the local road leading to the river was named Burnt Mill Road, and most of it was paved. Today, it is easily accessible from I-25, where the exit signs recognize Burnt Mill Road.

With the addition of perimeter fencing, this property could easily be turned into a nice horse property. The large shop has enough space to add a tack room or even a couple of horse stalls. The four loafing sheds are lined with plywood along the bottom half of the walls to prevent animals from kicking through the metal exterior and being cut.
Burnt Mill Ranch is close enough to a moderate-sized city to offer all the amenities but far enough outside of town to enjoy space, pleasant views, and wildlife. The large wrap-around deck is the perfect place to enjoy a cool glass of your favorite beverage and watch the sunset over the Wet Mountains.
