AREA HISTORY D Bar C Ranch has been in the same family for over 120 years and was originally a wagon repair shop on the Oregon Trail. This became a stop to fix wagon wheels/axles and a camping location for travelers and pioneers passing through. The town was originally called Squaw Creek and was an outgrowth of a water station built by the railroad on Squaw Creek in 1882. The area grew quickly with the pioneer expansion on the Oregon Trail and the Railroad establishment. Bancroft, Idaho, was officially named in 1898 after W.H. Bancroft, the first vice-president and general manager of the Oregon Short Line Railroad. The most prominent tradition in Bancroft is the annual celebration on July 24th commemorating Pioneers reaching the Salt Lake Valley. This date also falls each year, the day after the official establishment of Bancroft. The celebration includes dutch-oven dinners, chuck wagon breakfasts, kids’ games, craft fairs, and a parade. The amateur rodeo is also held annually and is one of the longest-running in the state. For over 123 years, Bancroft has continued this tradition. Traveling through Soda Springs on Highway 30, Hooper Springs is two miles north of the center of town and is the area’s most famous natural soda spring. A marvel on the Oregon trail for emigrants passing through, Hooper Springs was noted for the picturesque setting and the cold, naturally carbonated water spring. Emigrants would add flavorings to the water to create natural soda-fountain drinks. Today Hooper Springs is a City park with a covered pavilion, restrooms, picnic areas, BBQ pits, playground equipment, and a basketball court. Hooper Springs has been a prime attraction for over 160 years. The roads, the railroad tracks, and the river all continue to run at the same pace as they have for decades. Many properties, like D Bar C Ranch, remain less developed than surrounding communities. Bancroft is a quiet community dedicated to preserving the history, where you won’t have to look far for a friendly neighbor willing to help.

H unting & W ildlife Birds flock to open skies, fields, and water sources, including geese and duck. Mule deer, elk, cougar, and moose migrate through this open range. Among outdoor pursuits, hunting connects us most profoundly with animals and nature. The ranch is in hunting district 72 and is nearly a jump to the bordering districts. D Bar C Ranch is surrounded by some of Idaho’s most supreme hunting territory. The wide-open country seems to go on forever. The trophy elk in the area is a controlled hunt, and fewer hunters since only limited tags are given out each year. Mule deer and elk winter on the neighboring ranges and are seen regularly grazing the abundant vegetation. Diamond Creek, Unit 76, is just around the bend and has the second highest deer population in Southeast Idaho. This is one of the largest archery destinations, and during this time of year, there is a high chance you will get your shot at a trophy bull or buck. The Diamond Creek area will ensure your freezer is stocked with meat through the winter. The rugged and isolated terrain makes scouting memorable. www.fayranches.com | (800) 238.8616 | info@fayranches.com
