AREA HISTORY

South Park, Colorado’s Hartsel/Fairplay towns are alive with history. Originally home to the Ute Indians and some early mountain men/trappers, this area was next caught up in the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush in the late 1850’s. These two towns became important supply stops to miners and the mining industry. As it is today, it attracted early American hunters as well as cattle and sheep ranchers. Visiting these charming Colorado towns is a step back into a rich, colorful history.
