Flint Creek Ranch | Drummond, Montana
INTRODUCTION Flint Creek Ranch’s locale is a mountainous valley 50± miles east of Missoula, Montana and 3± miles outside the town of Drummond, Montana. The property comprises approximately 200± acres of lush sub-irrigated meadows, rich riparian bottomland, and beautiful Flint Creek Mountain Range panoramic views. Flint Creek traverses through the ranch for 1± miles on both sides of the stream. Private land surrounds the property with limited access. A building site overlooks a 0.75± acre developed pond. The current owner improved streambanks to enrich the fishing habitat. Flint Creek is one of the best-kept fishing secrets in Montana. While not as well-known as nearby Rock Creek (within 15 minutes) or the Clark’s Fork River (within 5 minutes), Flint Creek offers excellent fishing for quality trout. Flowing out of Georgetown Lake, Flint Creek winds down a steep canyon near the small town of Phillipsburg before spilling into the mountain valley. Flint Creek meanders through the lush valley among thick willows, cottonwoods, and sub-irrigated meadows before dumping into the Clark’s Fork River at Drummond. In addition to Flint Creek, the abundantly diverse property has two more spring creeks and fertile wetlands within its boundaries. The wetlands support diverse, year-round fishery and waterfowl.

WATER RESOU RCES Flint Creek forms from the tail-waters of Georgetown Lake to the south and offers medium-depth runs with undercut banks, creating excellent brown trout habitat. The creek additionally holds cutthroat, rainbow, and brook trout. The property contains both banks of the small river for over 1± mile. Mill Spring Creek, running along the eastern side of Flint Creek, originates just a few hundred feet off the property and runs for over a 0.5± mile on the property before its confluence with Flint Creek north of the property. The spring head, located near the ruins of an ancient grist mill destroyed by fire in the 1880s, runs year-round and maintains 50-degree water temperatures. Quality flow and constant temperatures offer refuge for migrating waterfowl and spawning trout as well as the tremendous potential for enhancement and fish production. Sam’s Creek, a spring-fed year-round stream on the property bordering the west banks of Flint Creek, originates upstream. The valleys pioneers found their first pure drinking water on Sam’s Creek. Nearby cattail wetlands also feed the many springs that give a constant return to in-stream flows on Flint Creek.
