Glass Butte Ranch | Hampton, Oregon

INTRODUCTION Glass Butte Ranch is 14,560± acres of deeded land, which, combined with the BLM permit provides room enough to run 450± cows. This is a desert, year around operation. There are pipelines for stock water, dirt tanks and some water hauling. The grazing permit is private and intermingled with much of the deeded land. The ranch is easily accessible off of Highway 20, 75 miles east of Bend and 55 miles west of Burns. The Glass Butte Ranch is a very efficient cattle operation with a huge deeded base. Improvements are minimal and the price will reflect some of the least expensive private ground to sell for a number of years.

WATER SOURCES | WATER RIGHTS Stock water is provided using some pipelines from wells, stock water ponds, developed springs, and water truck hauling. Under Oregon law, all water is publicly owned. With some exceptions, cities, farmers, factory owners, and other users must obtain a permit or water right from the Water Resources Department to use water from any source, whether it is underground or from lakes or streams. Landowners with water flowing past, thru, or under their property do not automatically have the right to use that water without a permit from the Department. The State of Oregon administers the water of Oregon under a “priorappropriation” doctrine; first in time, first in the right. 4

RECREATION H unting & W ildlife Make Central Oregon the next destination for your hunting adventure. The land is open to licensed hunters and includes national forest, high desert, mountain ranges, grasslands, and wetlands, along with hundreds of miles of rivers and streams, lakes, and reservoirs. This variety of habitats enables a diverse range of wildlife to thrive throughout the region. Central Oregon has significant BLM and USFS lands close by where one can hunt the generous upland game bird populations, which include doves, chukar, and California quail. The area’s rivers and many private farms provide excellent habitats for hunting ducks and geese. There are several areas for private hunting preserves that release pheasant and chukar for the sportsman. If big game trophy animals like deer, elk, antelope, cougar, bear, and coyote are what you are after, put in for a draw with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. F ishing chickahominy reservoir Forty-one miles East of Glass Butte, Chickahominy Reservoir is a 500- acre reservoir known for turning stocked fingerlings into large trout. Legal-sized trout also have been stocked, usually around mid-spring. Shore angling with bait or trolling from a boat should bring success. Fishing will be best in spring and could pick up again when cooler weather returns in the fall. Summer can be tough here as the water level drops. The lake sits in a barren landscape just north of Highway 20.

blitzen river More formally, the Donner Und Blitzen River, but known as the Blitzen, this Frenchglen-area river, 101 miles East of Glass Butte Ranch, can be very good for native redband rainbow trout if you time your trip well. Early summer can be good, but conditions can get too warm in the heat of summer. Fall again can be good. There is a modest limit allowed on the mainstem and most tributaries above Bridge Creek (southern end of the refuge), but the Little Blitzen is strictly catch and release. Artificial lures and flies must be used throughout the system. Blitzen River - Flickr

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS & ACTIVITES G lass B uttes Glass Buttes are located in Oregon’s high desert, approximately 70 miles southeast of Bend and 50 miles west of Burns. Glass Butte is a volcano formed about 4.9 million years ago and is part of a series of volcanic domes that are aligned in a northwest direction. Most of Glass Butte itself is composed of rhyolite flows. In the low lands about 3 miles east of Glass Butte and on Little Glass Butte 4 miles to the southeast, several eruptions produced the obsidian flows that rockhounds collect from today. Glass Butte offers rockhounds a wide variety of gem-quality obsidian. Rainbow, black, pumpkin, mahogany, midnight lace, gold sheen, silver sheen, fire, and double flow varieties can all be found in the area. While many rockhounds choose to dig for preferred material, plenty of obsidian is readily available for collection on the ground surface. www.fayranches.com | (800) 238.8616 | info@fayranches.com
