American engineering has also designed a Chalet to sit atop the highest point on the ranch, leaving breathtaking views of the mountains and the fertile town of Cuatro Bocas. With longstanding traditions in ranching, the locals carry on the legacy of past generations while pursuing new and advanced agricultural concepts. Yearlings are rotationally grazed throughout the ranch fattening on highprotein Brazilian grasses. The property uniquely blends land investment, cashflow ag production, and recreation. It is a self-sustaining off-the-grid private retreat for friends, family, and business associates.

Hacienda los Gauchos | Cuatro Boca, Alajuela Province, Costa Rica
Hacienda los Gauchos has undisturbed native tropical forest in four parts of the ranch. A survey has not been done of the harvestable species. It is no longer legal to clear or cut any native forest in Costa Rica. Numerous trees are five feet in diameter and 150 feet tall, and many smaller trees are interspersed. This timberland is loaded with monkeys, anteaters, armadillos, jaguars, and many species of tropical birds, including toucans. Horse, UTV, and dirt bike trails have been cut through parts of these forests for people’s enjoyment.
There are two hilltops, amongst many, that have particularly spectacular views of Lake Nicaragua, the fertile valley around the Town of Cuatro Bocas, the Rincon de la Vieja National Park, and four volcanoes. These 360-degree panoramas can only be appreciated in person. A modern chalet/lodge has been planned on these vistas for a quiet refuge with amazing views.
The ranch manager and his family occupy a small wooden home near the center of the property. There is also a working set of corrals and a small storage building for supplies and equipment. The ranch has no modern improvements; however, there is cell phone reception, internet, and satellite TV.
Trails are suitable for ATVs, mules, and dirt bikes to strategic fishing points and the waterfall on the main Cuatro Bocas River. There are plans to continue adding more trails into the more difficult access areas.
The ranch is completely fenced with electric and barbed wire for rotationally grazing the cattle. There are weatherproof mineral feeders throughout.
Costa Rica thrives with recreational tourism. Adventure Ziplining, hiking, wildlife viewing, beaches, and ocean sports draw people worldwide. The National Parks have become world-renowned for volcanoes, scenery, and wildlife viewing. The area has multiple beaches within a two-hour drive from the Pacific Ocean. They offer water sports like surfing, jet skiing, and world-class fishing.
No hunting is allowed by law in Costa Rica. The ranch is a nature preserve with abundant wildlife, monkeys, anteaters, armadillo, an occasional jaguar, and many species of tropical birds, including Toucans.
The ranch has outstanding fishing along the Cuatro Bocas River. With over a mile of access to the river, several deep blue pools can be found along the banks of the ranch. Tropical gar and wolf fish, usually in the 6-to-24-inch range, find the Cuatro Bocas River their home.
In the coastal regions of Costa Rica, ocean sport fishing remains world-class. The water temperatures stay warm year-round and provide a perfect environment for a variety of inshore and offshore fishing. Inshore is known for roosterfish, snook, tarpon, and multiple species of snappers. Offshore fishing brings anglers for sailfish, marlin, yellowfin tuna, dorado, and billfish during all seasons. These fish provide some of the most fantastic opportunities world-wide for sport fishing.
Traveling to the Pacific Coast, a two-hour drive from the ranch offers a variety of recreation. Recreation is the main attraction to over a million visitors annually in Costa Rica. A short list includes scuba diving, surfing, snorkeling, zip lining, adventure parks, rafting, enjoying the many beaches, and scores of restaurants. Nearby, there are multiple locations with hots springs and natural volcanic mud spas for rejuvenation.

18 Hacienda los Gauchos | Cuatro Boca, Alajuela Province, Costa Rica
The micro-climate of the valley where the ranch is located was carefully studied before the ranch was purchased. The perfect climate was chosen for high protein Brazillian cattle production grass. Due to the increased altitude, temperatures in the mountains near Rincon de la Vieja National Park are generally cooler than in the lowland regions. The climate in the park is classified as a tropical montane climate or a subtropical highland climate. The area has only a very short dry season in March and April, and the rest of the year, it offers uniform rains that are ideal for grass and cattle production. The temperature is rarely out of the range of 72 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Most days will be characterized by sunny mornings and short thunderstorms in the afternoons. It is known as an area of eternal spring due to its elevation and the surrounding mountains.
The ranch has eight natural springs plus the Cuatro Bocas River on the entire west side. All pastures throughout have good access to plentiful water. There are several creeks that cross the ranch that start at the springs. The ranch house gets drinking water from one of the springs.
