AREA HISTORY The Weiser River Trail approached Council Valley from the south. Early settlers used this route and the train route, which was created in 1901. When the settlers arrived, they discovered various tribes of Native Americans that would gather in the valley, so they began referring to it as “Council Valley.” Out past Hornet Creek was a stage and freight route that helped to supply miners. The route was utilized to carry the copper ore back to Council and loaded onto the train for transport.
