Pintler Creek Ranch | Wisdom, Montana

INTRODUCTION The Big Hole Valley remains a reflection of Old Montana, a place where time seems to stand still, and we consider that to be exceptionally special. The valley is discreetly celebrated for its robust agricultural output, breathtaking scenery, expansive open landscapes, abundant big game, thriving trout populations, and an authentic Western charm that endures through the years. Squarely situated in this noteworthy region is the Pintler Creek Ranch, encompassing 2,000± acres of hay meadows, extensive grasslands, sagebrush-covered hills, 2± miles of fishable Pintler Creek, and rolling hills with timbered edges adjoining 1.5± miles of National Forest Service land and the famed Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness. The current owner runs around 300-400 cow/calf pair on the ranch from late spring through fall, with water rights allowing for potential hay production. Elk utilize the willow-covered creek bottom for calving in the summer and the timbered habitat on the north end of the ranch for bedding throughout the year. The ranch is located in General License Hunting District 321, maximizing landowner opportunities to draw tags for both archery and rifle seasons, making elk harvesting prospects abundant. In addition to a healthy elk population, the ranch is home to mule deer, pronghorn, black bear, moose, and grouse. Situated approximately 5± miles off Highway 43 via a well-maintained county dirt road, the ranch is accessible year-round. Wisdom, Montana, located about 20± miles south of the ranch, and Wise River, approximately 27± miles to the east, are two charming small Montana towns with the integrity of traditional Western cultures. For additional amenities, including private and commercial airports, the Pintler Creek Ranch is conveniently located 65± miles from both Butte and Anaconda, Montana. With only an old homestead of no functional value and a few corrals, the ranch boasts no additional improvements. Devoid of conservation easements or similar encumbrances, the Pintler Creek Ranch presents a blank canvas with incredible build sites. The Big Hole Valley takes pride in preserving its historical significance deeply rooted in the American West. Native American tribes, the Lewis and Clark Expedition, and the Nez Perce War have all left their mark on this picturesque landscape. Fay Ranches is honored to showcase the Pintler Creek Ranch as an exceptional investment opportunity within the timeless narrative of Montana’s Big Hole Valley.

AREA HISTORY Over a century and a half ago, early settlers initiated agricultural endeavors in the Big Hole Valley, a tradition carried on by today’s multigenerational ranches. Native Americans historically traversed the valley for seasonal hunting, and in 1806, William Clark dubbed it the “Hot Springs Valley” during the Corps of Discovery expedition. The region attracted fur trappers seeking beaver before homesteaders arrived in the 1860s. Near Pintler Creek Ranch lies the Big Hole National Battlefield, where in 1877, Nez Perce Indians faced a tragic ambush by the United States Army, resulting in severe casualties on both sides. Chief Joseph’s subsequent attempt to lead his tribe to Canada proved unsuccessful.
