AREA HISTORY
A celebration that has long taken place in the community for over 120 years is the Pioneer Day Parade and Rodeo. Many travel from all over to celebrate on July 24th every year.
The ghost town standing today, is not eery, as you may imagine. The historical buildings, properties, and homes are well maintained, thanks to local individuals who value and continue to keep the history alive. Time can alter almost everything, but this land, community, and history have remained almost untouched.
Shilo Ranch sits near the old Chesterfield townsite. The entire area was founded by Mormon pioneers and their expansion in the early 1880s and grew rapidly in the first two years. Chesterfield was originally settled as a community trade center for those traveling along the Oregon Trail from Soda Springs to Fort Hall. Chesterfield had its own church, tithing house, store, and community 11 miles north of Bancroft. The area faced various challenges, and by the 1930s, Chesterfield had been deserted.
