Madras, Oregon, nestled in the Willow Creek basin, lies 43 miles north of Bend, just off Highway 97. Madras is the seat of Jefferson County, with a population of 7,683 (2021 projection). Its quiet downtown strip offers shopping and dining opportunities, while the surrounding natural landscape provides countless opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast. Madras is located in Central Oregon’s high desert with the Cascade Mountains, Cove Palisades to the west, and Ochoco National Forest to the east. The Deschutes River runs nearby, and Smith Rock State Park, famous for its deep river canyons and worldclass rock climbing, is 23 miles south.
