Welcome!
On behalf of Rincker Simmentals and the Illini Elite Consignors we would like to welcome you to the first ever Illini Elite Spring Bull and Female Sale While this fall will be our 20th Annual Illini Elite Sale our consignors really stepped up for this our first Spring Sale event! It has been a sincere privilege for our family to be a part of this sale in both consigning cattle and also hosting And it is without question that the Illini Elite consignors continue to find ways to make the genetic offering relevant and of the highest quality There is no better time to be Simmental Breeders as we continue to feel excitement for the real progress being made with the broad acceptance of our breed’s cattle both in seedstock as well as commercial operations We know that nationally prices being offered for commercial cattle in the market place and by private treaty has made it difficult to retain some of what would have been replacement heifers and that combined with the high demand for beef puts every cattleman in a positive position when marketing Without question, the time is right to offer what we believe to be an industry-wide accepted set of quality cattle
We are especially proud of the efforts these past few months from our consignors to be able to produce and develop the exciting set of genetics found in these good 2025 Illini Elite cattle
As you get the chance to look at the bull battery offered you should note that 100% of the bulls have been genetically enhanced for the benefit of buyer predictability We believe that you need to have the information to make the right decision for your sire selection The bred division of females will be preceded by one of our Elite Donors, V/S Miss Broker E795, 4 pregnancies, and seven tremendous embryo matings from some of the breed’s great dams that again are “cutting edge genetics” and can provide their new owner with high end and competitive offspring And different from our norm, we have opted to sell several recips with calves already at their side! We are also offering First Calf heifers with calves at their side and a few bred heifers either calving soon or in the early Fall Additionally if you prefer to buy cattle in groups, 2 pen of 3 cows and pairs are being offered And lastly in the heifer calves, you will find current genetics in heifers that phenotypically are built right and most certainly will compete! Preparing for and selecting heifers for County and State Fairs as well as the 2025 AJSA Classic heifers is still ongoing so realize that these heifer calves are simply stellar!
Our sincere congratulations to all of our past customers and the successes you are having with purchases from Illini Elite We would also mention that we don’t do this alone and want to thank Evan McDonald for his daily involvement in the operation of the herd and farm and the Show Barn work by Lake Land College students assisting when and where needed I also want to thank Adam Swigart for his picture and video work, Dr Annette Morrow, Shelby Veterinary Service for her assistance with herd health and Dr Wes Keller for his reproductive and embryology diligence Additionally I want to thank our Sale Consultants, our Auctioneer, and our Ringmen for providing their time and effort to communicate with all of you regarding this set of cattle Find their contact numbers on the next page and most certainly use their expertise . And lastly I want to thank our catalog designer Emily Brinkman, Generation 6 Marketing, for her work in developing effective ads and this great catalog
We sincerely invite you to join us March 2nd to see this offering and if you cannot be in attendance, we encourage you to go to CCI LIVE! Be a part of the history of the Illini Elite Sale!

Understanding and Using Expected Progeny Differences – EPDs
The following information is from www.simmental.org under Breeder Resources
The most effective tool available for comparing the genetic merit of a single trait between individuals is expected progeny differences (EPD) These values are estimates of the genetic potential that parents will pass on to progeny
An EPD uses all available information tied to the genetics of a trait including an animal’s own performance data, performance data on relatives, genomics, and progeny data It’s important to remember that EPDs continue to get more accurate and are subject to change as more information is reported
In using EPDs, the difference between two sires’ EPD represent the unit difference expected in the average performance of their progeny . For example, if sires A and B have EPD of +20 and +10, a 10-unit difference would be expected in the average of their progeny The key to using EPDs is knowing what units they are expressed in . For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPD, sire A’s progeny would be expected to weigh on average 10 pounds heavier at weaning compared to sire B’s progeny . If the trait was calving ease, sire A would be expected to sire 10 percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers on average compared to sire B .
CALVING EASE DIRECT (CE) - Reported as the difference in probability of calves being born unassisted out of firstcalf heifers Higher values are more favorable
BIRTH WEIGHT (BW) - Reported as the difference in pounds of calf birth weight Desirable values are dependent upon management goals, however if selecting for reduced calving difficulty the appropriate EPD to use is CE .
WEANING WEIGHT (WW) - Reported as the difference in pounds of progeny weaning weight . Higher values are more favorable .
YEARLING WEIGHT (YW) - Reported as the difference in pounds of progeny yearling weight . Higher values are more favorable
MILK (MLK) - Reported as the difference in maternal pounds of weaning weight from an individual’s daughters due to milk
CALVING EASE MATERNAL (MCE) - Reported as the difference in probability of daughters calving unassisted as first-calf heifers . Higher values are more favorable .
MATERNAL WEANING WEIGHT (MWW) - Reported as the pounds of weaning weight expressed in daughters’ progeny due to the milk production of the daughter and the direct genetic effect for weaning growth . Higher values are more favorable
STAYABILITY (STAY) - Reported as the difference in probability of a sire’s daughters staying in the herd until 6 years of age, given that they calved as a 2-year-old Higher values are more favorable .
DOCILITY (DOC) - Reported as the difference in yearling-age progeny temperament, represented as a difference in probability that progeny will be scored as a 1, rather than a 2-6 on the docility scale The docility scale subjectively orders individuals on temperament from docile disposition (1) to extremely aggressive (6) . Higher values are more favorable
YIELD GRADE (YG) - Reported as the difference in progeny
USDA Yield Grade score units (1–5) Lower values represent leaner carcasses with more saleable beef Only economically relevant if producers retain ownership or are driven by terminal performance
MARBLING SCORE (MARB) - Reported as the difference in progeny carcass marbling score Higher values are more favorable
Economic selection index, also referred to as $ Indexes, blend EPDs for economically relevant traits (ERTs) and the economics associated with cattle production into a single value Through well-conceived and rigorous computations, $ indexes estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line .
ALL-PURPOSE INDEX ($API) - Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold on a grid (carcass grade and yield) Use if you are planning on retaining females A higher value is more favorable
TERMINAL INDEX ($TI) - Evaluates sires for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold on a grid (grade and yield) Use in a straight terminal breeding program . A higher value is more favorable .
What will a good bull cost me?
Written by W. Travis Meteer, Univ. of IL Extension Beef Cattle Specialist
Published in Illinois Beef Magazine, January/February 2025 Issue
A popular question this time of year is “What will a good bull cost me? ” My go-to answer is usually… “How much revenue loss would you have from a pasture full of open cows?” After all, we often de-value the role of the bull We forget that he is a crucial part of the equation to making our product
Now, the question is a good one to ask Especially after watching calf prices climb seemingly all of 2024 and the prices paid for bred heifers at year-end, it is only logical to wonder what a good bull will cost this spring
Old rules of thumb are good to reflect on For instance, “2 times the value of a fat steer” or “4 to 5 times the value of a feeder calf” are both common measures used by old timers to determine the value of a bull So, I tested these figures with historical prices from the Illinois Performance Tested Bull Sale and prices paid for feeders and fats from National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) As it turns out, using values from 2004 to 2024 (last 21 years) the average bull price was 4 2 times the value of a feeder calf and 2 2 times the value of a fat steer Looks like those old rules of thumb work pretty well .
Using these multipliers, we can speculate to the average price of bulls this coming sale season Looking at recent market reports, 5 weight feeder calves are bringing $3 .25 or more Thus, value of a 5-weight feeder calf is conservatively $1,625 History tells us 4 2 times that value will get us close to the average . Thus 4 .2 x $1,625 = $6,825 for an average bull price
At the time of writing this article, a current price for fat steers weighing 1450 lb . is $1 .92 . Therefore, the math tells us a fat steer values out at nearly $2,784 The previously stated multiplier of 2 2 times the value of a fat steer would yield an average bull price of just over $6,125 . Thus, we have a calculated range of $6,125 to $6,825 for the average bull price
That said, there will be many bulls that bring in excess of those figures So, what factors contribute to bulls bringing more than the average? Are they worth the extra money? For simplicity, let’s say a bull breeds 25 cows per year for 4 years resulting in 100 calves over his lifespan . With these conservative assumptions, even a small improvement in a
valuable trait can greatly increase a bull’s value
For instance, Calving Ease (CE) EPD is defined as the difference in percentage of unassisted births So, let’s say you purchase a bull that is 5 points better in his CE than the breed average for current sires . For both Angus and Simmental that would mean purchasing a bull in the top 10 % of the breed for that trait… not an unrealistic buy The 5 point improvement should translate to 5% more unassisted births . In the real world, it’s fair to say half of assisted births don’t make it Thus, a 5% improvement in CED could easily translate to 2 5% more calves Out of 100 calves sired over a lifetime, that’s 2 .5 more calves . The added value from improved CE would be just over $4,000 (2 5 more calves x 500 lbs x $3 25/lb )
The most common example for added value of a bull is improved EPDs for weaning weight (WW) Let’s say you purchase a bull with a WW EPD of 74 (breed average for Angus is 64) . That’s 10 additional pounds at weaning per calf If the bull sires 100 calves in a lifetime and a pound is worth $3 25, then the result is $3,250 more income over his lifetime when compared to the average of current sires . Don’t only look at output traits If you plan to retain daughters as replacements, maternal traits need to be considered . Traits such as heifer pregnancy, calving ease maternal, sustainability or sustained cow fertility, cow energy requirements, and others can add long-term value to the cowherd
When selecting your next herd sire, identify the traits that can add dollars to your operation Don’t sacrifice functionality, structural soundness, docility, and other traits that can affect longevity View purchasing a bull as an investment and treat it as such Investing in a good bull that can improve profitable traits in your herd can allow your farm to be more competitive no matter the market dynamic Bottomline, bulls are a significant contributor to profit or loss in your cattle herd . The have an impact now and for years to come if you are retaining replacement females Look for traits that hold value in your market Find a bull that can inject those traits . The “expense” of a bull can be a great investment in the future of your cattle herd .

A unique opportunity to own an AI sire When I first saw Indian Outlaw, I was not only impressed by this red Baldy bulls balance and skeletal length but couldn’t believe that a double-digit calving ease bull in the top 10% of the breed for birth weight could boost such strong growth numbers We have over a dozen daughters most of which are red baldy’s and in all of them Indian Outlaw has translated his crazy material depth of body and perfect hip and hind leg The male offspring poses the natural shape and dimension of Indian Outlaw while still maintaining the balance and growth performance of their unique sire Indian Outlaw semen is currently available through Cattle Visions and has been a hot commodity the last year Selling with 40 units of semen that can be picked up on sale day Selling full possession and 2/3 Semen interest JR Simmentals will retain 1/3 semen interest

This bull ironically enough was an accident He was supposed to be an IVF heifer However I think he turned out pretty nice all things considered He is as stout and as big legged as any bull you’re going to find But with that being said he does have a little more shoulder so I would certainly recommend breeding him to mature cows rather than putting him on heifers I can also assure you that you will travel several miles to find a bull as gentle as this one He has been incredible natured ever since he was calf So if you’re in the market for a stout made easy to handle kind of a bull he is your guy The 831 is simply the best cow we ever had the opportunity to own, for us and Boyert Core Show Cattle this cow has generated close to $500,000 in total revenue, this mating alone has made some very competitive show cattle over 831’s life as well The Wetzel family in Minnesota showed a full sister that was Reserve Champion Overall at the Minnesota State Fair in 2023, and the Lauritsen Family in Nebraska is currently showing a full sister that was 10th Overall at the AJSA North Central Regional this past summer and was a class winner as a calf at the Nebraska State Fair We think a lot of this bull and we hope you will as well!

This is an exciting young purebred Remedy son out of our Broker donor RS Dakota 602D Another one of our top farm favorites and again his quality and shape are undeniable and quickly led judging coaches and teams to start here! This is a particularly good bull and his quarter shape and dimensional top are quickly noted but uncharacteristic of all that positive shape, he also comes with both substance and soundness stepping out true with the right angles to his pastern and hock His calving ease and growth numbers land mid range but his docility, yield grade, and backfat numbers are all in the top 35% or higher with the breed I like this one and hope you can come see him or give one of us a call!
The Rocking P Private Stock cattle were one of my top two favorite sire groups this year Whether a bull or heifer from the multiple time national champion sire, the cattle were always sensibly sized, sound legged, good footed, with a reasonable amount of shape This homo polled 701M bull hit all of those markers and while keeping his genetic profile reasonable for CE, growth, yield grade, and both $ indexes yet his Stayability EPD excelled at top 30% for the breed RS Motivate has enough muscle with plenty of top, and moves with the right angle and set to his hock This is a no nonsense, good percentage bull!

It will be difficult to get critical of this solid and good Private Stock son Out of a Double Up x Miss Beautiful dam this Homo Black, Homo Polled bull checks a lot of boxes He’s out of a first calf heifer and I am already thinking donor on this young dam As you see this bulls genetic profile has him respectable on birth and CE, but certainly in the top 1/3 of his breed for Weaning Weight, Yield Grade, and fat Good bone, plenty of give to his joints, nice haired, enough muscle, and balances at the profile So how do you beat that!

Elite Heifer PRegnancy
What a great young donor this matron has been for our family I am saying it more and more, “if it hurts to sell some of your cattle, then you know you are making a good offering for the sale” So feel assured, selling this heifer pregnancy is one of those She was purchased from Tree Lane Farms a few years ago and by their KDP Hoya Blue Steel Force donor and she herself has been a phenomenal donor for the Schlipf family with over 50 registered offspring to date And the history continues with TL Miss Mercy 37’s granddam, the Richie/Johnson donor K-Ler/RC Miss Hoya Saxa (AKA Madonna) with over 150- registered cattle as her progeny including national champions Mercy is by W/C Relentless that gives her so much extension, look and presence This cow is big bodied, huge boned, big topped, and ultra sound Always making good cattle and always having cattle that go on to be successful for their new owners I might add that this cow has a fantastic disposition and I have not yet had a single progeny that was difficult to handle out of Mercy She raised a Lover Boy that competed in Florida with Buck Mountain Cattle, and last fall sold heifers into Ohio and the Moran family in Northern Illinois not to mention the top selling Illini Elite Heifer, RS Mirage, a SO Remedy purebred, and sold to the Ogle Family I cannot wait to hear back from the pregnancy buyer on her mating to SO Remnant 418J once that heifer calf is on the ground This is a heifer calf pregnancy due 3-13-25 by TL Mercy 37 (ASA 3641960) x SO Remnant 418J (ASA 4035943) SO Remnant was the AJSA National Champion Bred and Owned bull for Walker Housley and last November was the Reserve Grand Simmental bull at the North American The Recip is a very nice 4 year old registered SimAngus cow, RS Jenny 5322J (ASA 4482060) This is an exciting mating possibility for the new owner!

Confirmed A I Bred to Entourage for an early September calf but was still bull exposed for 30 days prior to preg checking This again I think should be a very nice return on your investment here and I hope you will think so as well
This heifer needed to be showed, however she ultimately did not want to be a show cow This one has a full sister being showed by the McGurk family in Indiana this past year very successfully! Boyert’s also sold a full sister to this heifer in their bred sale back in December for $9,000 I think this heifer is very high quality, and I think the calf she is carrying very well could be a great return on your investment! Out of the Hairietta Relentless donor that Hillstown and Rinckers partnered on, RS/ BR Hairietta 275E, and by the increasingly popular Profit son SWSN Cash Flow 81E, why wouldn’t you be good! Remember that 275E raised the top selling Illini Elite heifer at the fall sale 2 years ago so having one this good is second nature to her The balance and striking profile of 275E and the power and substance of Cash Flow are both represented here in this lot, HILL/RS Hairietta M9
Shapely from behind, true in her rib, but still sharp enough fronted and smoothly laid in at her shoulder This black polled heifer has some show in her and I can tell you now, she is broke and ready to go!
A really nice female in this Exclusive influenced April heifer Going back to a Hook’s bred cow, 112Y and our KCC1 Exclusive son Paramount 110K, it came together here with this shapely built wide tracking heifer Talk about one that you can pick out of group, this one jumps out at you with her added gain and her shear presence, balance, and natural eye appeal On paper, even with her shape, she still lands solidly mid range on calving ease Looks like one you could show here but most definitely going to make a functional cowy looking replacement!
New division here moving into some really solid May heifers Here is an especially good baldy heifer and much like her mom who is also in the sale as lot 49 Much like her Pays to Believe influenced dam, this girl has some game in her with so much stretch and extension but also with so much show ring presence with that chiseled front end, that length of hip and strength of top, and then those good joints in her hock and knee and pastern that bend when she goes This heifer is one that can definitely compete and get you into the purple and then make one good front pasture cow!
Elite Open Heifers
7562M is a really nice May in the low percentage division She stems back to the Bramlet Beautiful dam via her Conley No Limit Bar QH mom So that much maternal and then on her top side what might be Profit’s greatest son, National Champion Ignition sire, you come up with this good heifer with some shape and extension I like her when she tracks and goes with some natural flexion Here’s one that is still breaking but get this gal into her show mode and she has the genetics to get there and be a competitor!
I’ll bet you liked this girl’s picture! I don’t know everything that everyone expects in a May heifer at this time but I think this girl is on target! Just a real nice extended heifer in her front end and she carries that advantage into her long shapely top and hip 6769M is extremely sound made when she goes and just sets her feet right with the right angles in her pasterns Did I forget to tell you that RS Millie 6769M has some serious hair!
Here’s a low percent Simmy heifer that goes back to a SAV Brilliance unregistered dam and by our Exclusive son Paramount 110K to make a really good solid heifer again in that May division This heifer is long topped yet balanced in her look Plenty of flex in the hock in RS Madison giving her some reach as she goes Certainly ample in her muscle at this stage but as she continues to eat and power up look for this heifer to get even more competitive

who goes back to SAV Bismarck 858M is a low percent Simmy with tremendous body length and shape Her sire is a 3/4 Simmy bull by SO Remedy and his look and balance is readily seen here Additionally I like this heifer’s calving ease and low birthweight EPD’s and believe that RS Merciful has a chance to add value as a replacement after she shows
Most certainly a high, high quality heifer here in this shapely, more moderately built female RS/BR Maggie’s dam is a County O on our Hairietta donor so she herself has that little extra punch and power and shape to her lower 1/3 056M is big legged and square hipped She can excite you as you watch her get up and go and you just know the way she is put together, that she can have some breeding versatility in developing heifer or bulls, or even steers Just a great fall heifer that can certainly get competitive this summer!
