Ronald McDonald House Golf Tournament By. Paige James
On June 29th, 2015, Randall High School Key Club volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House Pro-Am golf tournament. The Ronald McDonald House is a nonprofit organization that allows families to be close to their child while they are in the hospital. It gives the families a place to stay without them having to spend money and spend their time traveling back and forth from their home to the hospital. Amarillo Country Club hosted the tournament. The first thing we helped with was unloading sodas and water from a van and. The Amarillo Country Club employees drove about thirty golf carts into three lines. Each cart was assigned to a golf team. The players were in groups of five containing four amateur players and one professional. We to put copies of the prize lists on each cart and papers that assigned a player to their cart. Schlotzky's delivered boxed lunches, each containing either a turkey or a ham sandwich along with chips and a cookie for the volunteers and golf players. Both a turkey and ham sandwich box were placed in each cart, so that the players could choose which ever sandwich they preferred. The remaining sandwiches were passed out to the volunteers for lunch. After that, we road around on golf carts to the different holes to set up tents for several of the drink stations. Triston Dees and I were placed at the hole eight drink station with two employees from Happy State Bank. When we were no longer needed at the drink station, we helped set up the ballroom for the auction and dinner. On each table, Dees and I placed a piece of green carpet to represent the green of a golf hole. Then, we placed a small bucket in the center of the carpet and placed tees and golf balls around it. We also put a list of the auction items in each bucket. There were five stuffed bears given to us to put in five of the buckets as well. Volunteering at the golf tournament and helping the Ronald McDonald House was a great way to spend the day. 4

Cooking for Ronald McDonald By. Kayla Morton
Throughout summer, Randall High School Key Club cooked at least once a month for the Ronald McDonald House (RMH). RMH is an organization that helps families in the community and surrounding areas who have children, ages zero to eighteen, in the hospital. The house is available for families who want to be close to their children but don’t have the resources to get a hotel or eat out every night. The house is much like a sanctuary for parents to come when they need rest or a hot shower. The house asks for a $15 donation but knows that not every family can make a donation, so the house lets them stay for free. This summer we, as a club, were able to make three different meals; tacos, sloppy joes, and hamburgers.
Delivering Blankets By. Andrea Zearley
This summer, a few people from Key Club got together and went to BSA. Where, we delivered blankets to a few kids. It was a different experience compared to our average service project. Typically, we volunteer at events that raise money for Children's Miracle Network, but this time, we actually got to meet the kids we were helping. When we walked into the first little girl’s room, I saw her little arms crowded with wires and tubes connected to machines and an IV bag, and my heart broke. She looked so small in the hospital bed and I felt so useless because I had no way of helping her. Then, Brittany Tu handed her a pink blanket that was just her size and her face lit up instantly. She was so thrilled to have something that bright and colorful in her hospital room. It feels so amazing to be a part of an organization that helps everyone, big and small, feel special and loved. Do we make keys? By. Sydney Hatfield
Hey Raiders! Welcome back to school! I hope you’re all as excited as I am! I truly encourage all of you to get involved with Key Club. I’m sure that you all know what Key Club is at this point, but in case you don’t or you’re trying to explain it to a friend, here it is. Key Club is an organization that volunteers around the community and school. We work with many organizations such as, Snack Pak 4 Kids, Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Miracle Network, and March of Dimes. It is a great way to make friends and have fun! Each member is required to get 5 hours every month, 3 of those hours need to be earned through service. We will have projects to sign up for at each meeting and you can choose the projects you want to go to. Just remember: if you sign up for a project, you must go. If you can’t, please tell Mrs. Wells or a board member ASAP, or you will have an hour deducted from your earned hours. I hope you all have a fantastic year, Raiders!
