Philanthropy Award By: Gracelynn Wilson This year our key club received the youth in philanthropy award. This award is based off of character and willingness to go out in the community and serve. When we were nominated it took me by surprise because we never look for recognition in our work. We were nominated by Jodi Reid with CMN. Upon the award acceptance we did an interview with the people with the philanthropy award. Seeing the interview video back when we went to the acceptance award banquet was touching. Our sponsors Mrs. Unger and Mrs. Steger are our number one fans and supporters. We would not be able to do what we do without them. It makes me happy that we are able to help our community as much as possible. When accepting this award among so many adult philanthropist is a huge eye opener to the club. When seeing the amazing work all the adults have done it shows me what we will be able to do in the future. Even though we go out to serve without wanting recognition it is always nice to have a pat on the back. Knowing our work is helpful and appreciated makes my heart happy. We help with Children's Miracle Network, SnackPak for Kids, Ronald McDonald house, March of Dimes, and so many more. Each one of those organizations help people in so many different ways and that is how we are able to reach every person in our community. Being a Youth in Philanthropy is a huge honor and responsibility. Knowing that we are able to represent Randall High School in this way is awesome. I am so thankful that I get to go to school with such amazing students. It is hard to find so many kids willing to spend their weekend and weekdays serving their community but it is a blessing to have the opportunity to do just that to the Randall High School Key Club. Our hope is that we continue to show the qualities for as long as our club is running. We will continue to serve our community to the best of our ability so that we can reach every person and be able to change the work a little bit at a time. Time flies when you're having fun and our fun is getting out serving and giving love to everyone in the community. Thank you to everyone who had seen and continues to see something in our club.

Philanthropy Award Celebration Social By: Jamie Roy On November 30, Randall Key Club hosted a social in the teacher's lounge. The social was held to celebrate our club winning the Youth in Philanthropy Award. Board members were asked to sign up to bring hot chocolate, cans and piping bags of icing, sprinkles, and silverware to the social. After the Wednesday afternoon meeting concluded at around 4:30, members made their way to the teacher’s lounge in the west building and gathered around the long meeting table. Everyone began decorating cookies with the frosting of their choice. Members were free to be creative in both designing and the use of colors. By mixing different kinds of icing, people could add to the variety of colors and tastes. The results were cookies ranging from Santa Claus with a hat made out of red and white icing, fully decorated Christmas trees with ornaments made out of all kinds of festive sprinkles, stars with pointy, yellow ends, to any kind of pattern you could imagine. A large, metal container was set out to heat water which allowed people to make hot chocolate with the packages provided. Probably the hardest decision for most was choosing between having marshmallows or not in their cocoa. Once they chose, they filled their cup to the desired amount of water and stirred the powder mixture with coffee stirrers. About 20 members came to the social to not only help celebrate the winning of the award, but to also sign in and provide points that will assist the club in reaching our goal of earning number one club at DCON in April. Lots of members enjoy socials because they have the opportunity to meet new people and get to know them more, spend time with their long-time best friends, and encourage other to sign up for events and volunteer more. People chatted about how their day at school went, how excited they were for the Christmas season as well as Christmas break, what kind of cookie design they planned on creating, and many other random topics of conversation including “Can you pass me the white icing? As 5:00 rolled around, members were asked to take home leftover cans of frosting, boxes of cookies, and as well as hot chocolate. Overall, the social was a great turnout for old and new members to get into the holiday spirit for upcoming seasonal events in December.
