PPHM Christmas Open House
By; Paige James On December 2 and 3 the Randall High School Key Club volunteered at the Panhandle Plains Museum Christmas Open House. The event was free to those attending, but they were asked to bring a can of food for the food drive the museum was holding. There were many different activities families could enjoy, such as cookie decorating, story time, arts and crafts, visiting Santa Claus, and there was live music being played. Most of the Randall Key Club members were placed at the arts and crafts tables. There were several different crafts the participants could make. On Friday the 2, I helped with the stained glass window plate craft. There were multiple plates with designs cut out of them, so that the children could pick their designs. They could choose between candy canes, stars, Christmas trees and snowmen.

The plate would then be hole punched by one of the volunteers and given a transparent sticker paper. They would place the sticker paper on the back of their plate and then fill in the sticky part with colored tissue paper, and then it would be tied with a ribbon, so it could be hanged. My job was to cut pieces of ribbon and tie them to the plate. There were multiple colors the children could choose from such as red, white, silver, gold, purple, green, and turquoise. On Saturday the 3, I helped with the gingerbread house gift tag craft. The gift tag was a piece of cardboard cut into the shape of a house with a piece of ribbon of string to attach it to a gift. The children and a couple of adults who wanted to participate were given the house of their choice and then were able to decorate them with glitter crayons or a white marker. The houses were already cut out, so my job was to put a hole in the top and tie either string or ribbon to it, so it could be attached to a gift. The Panhandle Plains Museum Christmas Open House is a really fun event to volunteer at. There are lots of people that attend the event and Key Club members stay busy the whole time they are helping. It is one of my favorite events to volunteer at throughout the year.
