October Social
September 14, 2017
At the October social, key clubbers gather after the Wednesday board meeting and created dog toys. These dog toys were created by using old t-shirts brought by various members. Then, these shirts were cut into strips and braided. As clubbers worked, they were able to enjoy food and drinks brought by board members. At the end of the social, we collected a bag full of dog toys.
Family Service Center Family Service Center is an organization created by a local church. Their objective is to hand out food and clothing to families in need as long as they can provide proof of residency. Each family sends in a filled out form that requests certain items at a time. Then, volunteers use that form to pack the bags accordingly and deliver them. Family Service Center is a great project because it allows key clubbers to meet those they are helping and see the direct impact they are making.

Chamber of Flavors By JJ Castillo
The Chambers of Flavors was an event that involved wonderful music, a delicious variety of food, and fun. There were very talented dancers and singers who provided enjoyable entertainment. Everyone there were all friendly and welcoming. This event was worth coming to help out with, no doubt about it. In the process of helping out with the event, we got to also enjoy a variety of foods! In every corner of the room, there were numerous food choices, which made it difficult to decide. All sorts of restaurants came to the event to offer up their cuisine. Such as Kabuki, who offered up such tasty fried rice, Rosa’s Cafe, who brought their soft signature tortillas, and my favorite: El Tropico. There were so many other mouth watering foods that I wanted to try. Luckily, I was there till the event ended; therefore, I got the chance to try them all! There were many restaurants who I never heard of until the Chamber Flavors event. Now that I know what delicious food their restaurants serve motivates me to visit their places now.

What is even better is that I got to eat such delicious food and help out with the event with friends and new friends. I went to the Chamber of Flavors with Key Club. Also, there was another club there too to help out. So, on the bright side of picking up trash and emptying trash cans was that I got to meet new people. Some even within my own club who I’ve never met before. Each person I met had a story behind them that was very intriguing. Ones worth listening to too. I did not only meet new people within the clubs, but of event goers also. Getting to know others was very worthwhile. When I think about getting to know people. I think of how amazing it is that within each person is a story; one worth listening to. In the end of this event, I learned that helping out with an event can be so much fun! Enjoying the benefits of helping out with the event. Such as meeting new people or learning new things about a person or restaurant. Who knew that there would be so much to do when volunteering for an event aside from working. Helping out with the Chamber of Flavors is an event I would volunteer for again with no regrets.

U
nicef is an organization that defends children’s rights and improves the lives of families by
supplying them with many benefits. Due to the generosity of donations, and organizations such as Key Club, they are helping out to reach out to others in order to stop diseases with vaccinations and other medication that can be prevented very easily. This allows Unicef to provide these types of vaccinations to families in need of them.
Unicef stands for United Nations
Unicef
International Children’s Emergency Fund. The organization was organized on December 11th 1946 by the United Nations in order to originally help children in the post-war between Europe and China. However, has now changed to now assist all children and families around the world with many health problems, or diseases that they as a donation organization can help with and/or assist financially.. Randall Key Club is striving to help out as much as we can, with donations of spare change. Many people do not care for pennies or nickels, however with these simple coins, we can help Unicef with a vaccination. The Elimination Project is a project that is led to eliminate diseases and other painful things for families and other generations to come. We are helping to eliminate a disease called Maternal/Neonatal Tetanus. Which is a disease that kills newborn babies rapidly, this occurs when a bacterium, specifically Clostridium tetani, has entered the body through a scratch/wound and produces a toxin that attacks the central nervous system. This affects the newborn and creates an infected tetanus, unfortunately when born, it appears to be healthy, and symptoms show 2-3 days later.
By Enrique Mata
The vaccine costs $1.80 and can help third world countries or underdeveloped countries who are in need of the vaccine. This creates an immunity to future generations and will not become a disease with new generations to come once a mother is vaccinated. Unicef states on the back of their box, that “Over 100 million in more than 25 countries need our help.”. This creates concern to us and other organizations like Kiwanis K-Kids who would like to diminish this number to 0. During the month of October, they present the theme of Trick or Treat. The link www.EliminateProject.org/TrickorTreat is where you can also donate. Unicef has helped many people with situations that were sometimes unpreventable, and has created a shelter for these children to feel accepted into. As well as parents who are coping with these situations that they are needing emotional help with, Unicef has done a lot for the world as a whole, this is why we as Randall Key Club support this organization and raise money.
