Cityview Talent Show Friday March 2, City View Elementary had a very astonishing talent show. The school came to our club asking for help in making sure the students were properly seated, ready for their performance, and given anything they were needed. Because we were asked to help with the talent show, I was also able to watch a lot of the performances, all of which were really good. The talent show was fun night that everyone enjoyed, all the competitors were very good with their performances that they got to perform in front of friends and family. My job was to sign in the kids who were performing, I got to know each kid and see a little of what they were going to perform for the show. Myself and other key club members watched over the kids in the back room while they waited until their turn, while waiting we played games and sang songs and got to know one another. I love kids, they are filled with so much energy and enthusiasm it makes my day better. The kids all had different routines, for example there was a rapper who rapped about how he was so small, there was a group who performed a scene from the goofy movie, and many singers and dancers, there was also a comedian who was very funny. It was interesting to see the different personalities of the kids and

how they expressed themselves through their performances. Along with my job, some members where by the front door stamping all the guests hands who were going to watch the show, also outside of the school there were food trucks selling foods and drinks to people. We had a pretty good turnout to the event, so I’m sure every key club member was very busy. The city view talent show was a fun and exciting event to work and if I wasn't graduating this year I would loved to have worked it next year. I really enjoyed getting to know the kids and seeing how smart and talented they are. I hope that in the next couple of months, we have more events like this that I can also volunteer at. Senior year was my first year as a key club member and I enjoyed every minute of it, volunteering with friends doing good deeds that help others. Being a member has been an amazing experience that I hope others will enjoy as much as I did.

Hillside Family Game Night Many of our Key Clubbers helped in the cafeteria, where a small locas restaurant was sponsoring the event by providing nachos. They formed an assembly line for the children and their guardians, passing the nachos down the line until everything was satisfactory, and we were even able to eat the delicious dinner for helping out. The vast majority of our members were not in the cafeteria, but aiding in teachers classrooms as assistants. The participating children were given a card to play games, and if they won three of them, their name was entered in a contest to win a free book. I had the pleasure of helping a former teacher of my younger sister keep track of the dice games going on in her room. Lots of little kids- and big ones turned out to support their school and many came to play and improve the varying skills required to win the games. From simple addition to complicated spelling, the teachers really put out a variety of challenges for the students to try.

The true centerpiece of the night; however, was the Book Fair in the library. Carts had been set up wall to wall, simply covered with books, posters, bookmarks, pens, and anything a kid could need at school. They even had a few of my childhood favorites on the shelves! There were five or six of us lending a hand at the checkouts and giving advice on what books were really worth reading. Talking to the teachers during the slow times was incredibly intriguing. I learned that last year alone they had raised over five hundred dollars to purchase new library books for the school, and that this year they had already surpassed that amount. In the short time I worked in there, Hillside Elementary School sold enough merchandise to even replace some of the older worn out books with new copies. Watching people’s faces light up as they found their next novel was heartwarming as well as joyous. The best part of the night was seeing how many people turned out to support learning and show pride in their community.
