EDITOR’S NOTE

Editor’s Note Hello Key Clubbers, As we get deeper into the school year, we get busier and busier. It’s nice to see members still being faithful and continuing to serve through the stress and pressure from school. I’m proud of the dedication shown in our club! Yours in Service, Chantha Dalena Le

FTC

September 14, 2017

The FTC took place at Randall’s main library. It was a learning opportunity for board members of all Key Clubs in Amarillo to attend hosted by District Secretary Shelby Morton and Lieutenant Governor Abbey Diggs. At the FTC, board members were informed on specifics of how to effectively carry out their duties.

Buddy Walk The Buddy Walk took was an important event to raise awareness to Down Syndrome. It was an opportunity for those with Down Syndrome or those who know people with Down Syndrome to gather and have a good time. At the Buddy Walk, there were many booths of games and activities for guests to play, which were run by various key club members.

Make-A-Wish By Madilynn Sheffield

Fairly recently, our club got the honor to be would make her forget about it and have fun. It was apart of a wish reveal for Kenzie Lee, a student at our school. Make-A-Wish granted her to go to Disney World and meet the princesses. We made a huge banner that we held up while she walked out into the cafeteria. I walked in and saw the cafeteria was set up for a celebration. There were balloons, refreshments, and lots of excited, smiling faces that were waiting for Kenzie. Key Club was able to present her with a dozen colorful roses and we held them while smiling with our banner. The rest of Kenzie’s class came out before she did. When she finally was seen, nobody could help but have a huge smile on their face. One of her closest friends was dressed up as Cinderella and told her that she was going to Disney World. She smiled so big and embraced her in a hug. We handed her her roses as she thanked everyone of us. Her parents stood their filming her smiling. Everyone who was there smiled with a warm heart. We got to see a whole new side to Make-A-Wish (the best side if you ask me), which we will forever grateful for. It was such an amazing thing to see this awesome organization in action, and I would love the opportunity to see this again. Kenzie’s smile made it all worthwhile. I was so excited for her, and I think everyone that was there was too. Seeing her parents face touched me as well. Seeing their happiness for her that, even though she was dealing with a heart condition, she got to do something that

heart-warming to know that they were going to get to do something fun with her rather than worry about appointments and medicine. I know I gained a whole new love for this organization by getting to be a part of this. We always sell chocolate bars for them in the spring, but actually seeing what all that money we raised goes to was unforgettable. I can’t wait to find out what other things we can do to get involved. I’d love to meet other kids that are apart of the program and talk to them about their wishes. I want our club to be a huge part of the Make a Wish chapter in our town to help out the kids we know and those we don’t. Either way we’re making the lives of kids in our area more fun and I want to always be a part of.

is a homecoming tradition sponsored by student

council. It is held on Randall’s football field with groups of teams lined up on each side. Each team consists of 6 boys and 6 girls. At the end of the night, the winning team receives a toilet seat as their grand prize.

Each year, our school hosts a challenging relay competition that involves a series of different games. The games that are offered are completely random and consist of all different kinds of situations. Because the games are random and can be made up of practically anything, the competition is called PNE.

This year, our key club board decided to enter as a team of our own. Our team was a mix of executive board members and regular members. Because we would be working together towards a common goal, we were able to consider the competition as a social. Practically Nearly Everything has by far been my favorite social. To start off the competition, we met in the cafeteria to discuss the rules.l Surprisingly, a lot of the games this year involved some kind of athletic ability which our team was not very fond of. We then walked out to the football field and divided up into our teams with our matching team shirts. Our team name was “Cornsilk” because our pastel yellow shirt color. After a few minutes of team preparation, it was time to begin the first round. This round consisted of blowing a ping pong ball across the field without using your hands, a wheelbarrow race where the ending involved eating a spicy kool-aid

flavored pickle, and slithering through a line of people like a snake. These games developed a moment for team bonding and memorable experiences. Each round, four different teams competed with each other until the last place team was eliminated. The teams we played were fairly athletic but they did not have very good strategies. Round by round, all the teams we played got eliminated. Somehow, we happened to win against the teams in our first group of four. Beating these teams brought us to the fourth round which was the semi-finals. This round was the most interesting because we had to eat a donut off a string and then run across the football field in a relay format. My donut happened to fall on the ground into the turf. The sprinkles on my donut turned into little black pieces of turf. Eating a donut may sound easy when you are hungry but eating it off a string without your hands was quite challenging. This was the round that ended it all. Our team had finally lost! It was time for us to be eliminated. Although we did not make it to the end, our team did extremely well compared to how we thought we would do. Out of 27 teams, we ended up placing 7th which was a victory to us. Afterwards, we hugged our teammates and opponents while congratulating them on their scores. This experience was something we will never forget and will treasure forever.
