HOPE AND HEALING PLACE “This is my third year in Key Club and I hope to continue with service projects through college! I applied for parliamentarian because I wanted to incorporate even more communication in our club through managing the social media. Key club has made me realize how huge of a difference a single person can make in their community through service.”

CANYON SNACK PAK 4 KIDS “My job as recording secretary is to pretty much just write down what happens at meetings and report and do the minutes. I chose to do this job because I was ready to become even more involved in Key Club. Key Club, while being a positive impact on the community, has also changed me for the better. It has made me more confident and has allowed me to make many great friends and memories. KEY CLUB IS LIFE.”

EVELINE RIVERS “Being in Key Club has changed my life because it has helped me become more social and interactive with the people at my school. As membership secretary, I help maintain the hours our Key Club ears. A fun fact about me is that I enjoy reading!”

ICONic By Madalynn Reid

Many know what DCON is for Key Club, ICON is like DCON in the sense that it’s Key Club International’s International (rather than District) Convention. Yet it is unlike DCON in the scale of the event and the event’s location. Each year ICON is held in a different city, Atlanta in 2016, San Antonio in 2017 and will be in Chicago for 2018. Key Clubbers from all over the world come to ICON and participate in events similar to those at each individual District’s DCON. Also like DCON, ICON is held in a highly rated hotel. The club members stay in the hotel and all forums and sessions are held in the business rooms and ballrooms. This year’s ICON was in our home district of Texas-Oklahoma. About 40 key clubbers from all over Texas and Oklahoma attended. While not nearly as many club members from our home district came as do at DCON I made more friendships in the 6 days than I made at the past three DCONs combined. These friendships sprouted from always sticking together with our district. While DCON is more people from our area I always feel that everyone tends to stay within their own club and not venture out and try to make new relationships. While at ICON I attended a handful of helpful forums taught by lieutenant governors and district board members from all over the place. One of these forums was a forum on club organization and structure, the presenter was a lieutenant governor from Florida.

Although ICON is virtually a business meeting of sorts we had plenty of fun as well. During the duration of the event they held two dances much like the T-O District’s Governor’s Ball, held on the last night of the T-O DCON. The T-O District club members also took a trip to Six Flags Fiesta Texas on our last day in San Antonio. My club also took a half day trip to San Marcos to shop the outlet malls, plus we hit up the Buc-ee’s in New Braunfels. Over the course of 6 days I learned more and made more lifelong friendships than one is expecting of and I am so excited to see my newest Key Club besties, that live in different parts of our district, at the upcoming T-O DCON. Overall ICON is by far my most favorite thing that I have had the opportunity to experience through Key Club and I hope everyone gets to have an experience like I did.

GOODBYE

It is an honor to be the editor for the 2016-2017 school year. I am ecstatic for the upcoming year and seeing all that we can do. Because you will be reading the words I write throughout the year as you read my newsletters, I thought it would be a good idea to officially introduce myself and who I am.

About The Editor Because all of you will be reading my newsletters this year, I figured it would be a good idea to properly introduce myself. I am a senior in high school and I am also involved in band, yearbook, national honor’s society, and an internship program at my school. In band, I am part of the leadership team and play the flute. I am also the editor in chief of my school’s yearbook. I also enjoy photography in my free time. In the future, I currently plan to major in advertising. I am looking forward to the upcoming year and seeing all that we can accomplish! Yours in Service, Chantha Dalena Le

RECAP

Raider Recap for June and July By Chantha Le

Park Social

June 16, 2017

Key Clubbers met at John Stiff Park on July 16th to attend a small social held by Abbey Diggs. At the social, Key Clubbers picked up trash around the park and were then awarded with snow cones from Bahama Bucks. The president of Canyon High School’s Key Club joined as well. Club members then ended the night by playing sand volleyball until the sun went down.

ICON A few Key Club members had the opportunity to ICON this summer. ICON is Key Club’s international convention, which is a lot like DCON except it includes people from all around the world. This year’s ICON was held in San Antonio, Texas. Clubbers who were able to attend ICON made new friends and gained new information.
