I Wish...I Wish...
Thank you to our generous R-MA
parents for helping to fulfill our Wish List. These items, large and small, go a long way in helping our students and staff. Concessions are such a big fundraiser for us, and the proceeds go directly to the students…a Win/Win! The Wish List items still needed: 18 qt roast oven Proctor Silex electric kettle 1.7 Liter Hamilton Beach 42-cup coffee maker 2 qt pump thermos *Glass front beverage refrigerator This is a much-needed item to keep our drinks cold for our concession stands! If you are a business owner and can help us with a vendor connection, please let us know.
If you would like to donate or volunteer, please contact PA President Angie Williams at angie@wbdoors.com or her work phone at 540-636-4444.
R-MA Parents’ Association in Action
Soon R-MA cadets will be walking in style, on new flooring! Thanks to the Parents’ Association, $5,000 has been designated to replace the industrial tile in the Student Services Lounge. A modern, sleek, wood-look vinyl will flank the original black and white tiles for a complimentary update. Thanks to those volunteer parents who worked hard to raise these funds through concessions, uniform sales and all of the wonderful donations! So far, the Upper and Middle School Score Boards were the previously donated high dollar items.
New Faces, New Places As new Cadets enter the halls and classrooms of Randolph-Macon Academy, many parents are feeling the stress of the first month. Uniforms, schedules, books…it can all be overwhelming for parents and students. Take a deep breath because you are not alone. My name is Jennifer (Jen) Kelly, and I am a new R-MA parent. Like many R-MA students, our son has always had the desire to learn to fly planes and to one day attend a Service Academy. We relocated the family to Front Royal, and Cadet Kelly is now a Day Student. The PA Sept meeting brought in new faces, like me, who were invited to jump into the many opportunities, to get involved and express opinions. If you have been thinking of getting more active in R-MA life, there is no time like the present! Find us on http://www.rma.edu/Parents-Association (Or go to www.rma.edu, click the Current Families tab, and then R-MA Parents’ Association.)
PA Gets a Presidential Visit Our Parents’ Association was honored to have R-MA President Maj Gen Maury Forsyth speak during the September meeting. Gen Forsyth presented current enrollment statistics and his goals for R-MA. He introduced his vision for student enrollment and intent to lead the school to a higher level of student expansion and academic achievements. Also Gen Forsyth listened to suggestions from parents regarding better R-MA-to-parent communication, the creation of an online database for volunteer needs and supplies, as well as carpool opportunities/ connections. 2
PA Supports the Arts Last year’s production of the R-MA's Little Theatre, which is housed in the lower level of Melton Gymnasium, brought Mulan to the mountains of Virginia. The PA stepped in and donated $1,000 to the production and collected donations at the performances. This year’s production of Grease is in full swing and Ms. Cramer needs your help! Specifically, the Little Theatre is in need of the following props and costume pieces (to donate or lend): 7 men's black leather jackets Poodle skirts Pencil skirts button down sweaters wide belts 50's chiffon scarfs 50's style prom dresses Bow ties 50's style radio Portable record player men's button down shirts argyle sweaters
Mulan was a great success last year in large part to the support of the Parents’ Association and individual parents.
