World Tour A Photographic Journal

As seen through the eyes and camera of Randy Dorman

South Africa: less than livable. These are some of the very first photos I took when I began my photographic journey.

Although they were very oppressed they still had their pride and wore a smile on their face.

I fell in love with all the children. They were just too cute. The rings on the neck depict beauty in their eyes. They start when they are young to train the muscles. She couldnʼt hold her head up without them.

Gold Coast Australia Australiaʼs tallest building taller than the Eiffel Tower and Empire State Building is the Q1 Tower. Annie and I grabbed a train to go see it. The views are breathtaking from all sides. It took about 43 seconds to get to the 77th floor observation deck. We were 754 feet above sea level. The building is held-up by 22 piles, each 6 foot in diameter, extending 131 feet into the ground, then cored up to 6-13 Ft into rock. At that depth, the rock is five times the strength of concrete. Q1 contains 2,154,194 cubic Ft of concrete (including the piles). 20,943,915 pounds of reinforcing crown. There are 18,926 panes of glass in the tower, totaling 154,462 square Ft and weighing 685,637 pounds. 3,280,839 Ft of electrical cable was used throughout the building. The construction of Q1 required 6 1/2 years to complete, 2,500 people contributed to the onsite construction of Q1.

It was one of our favorite quick trips and well worth it for photos. The night scenes are at the harbor in Brisbane.

St. Lucia: this is the very first shot I took when we arrived at our hotel.

We had Ross hand carve us a beautiful bird feeder out of a coconut. Melody, our dog decided to get it off our dining room table when we left her for a little while and she ate it. I had never been above a rainbow before and after shooting the photo I turned around to see we had visitors. Mama bringing her baby goats up the hill and out of the rain. The pier shots leads to our hotel the St. James Club.

We went to a sulfur pit where a waterfall brought a healthy warm bath for our synchronized swimming.

Newcastle Australia Horsing around on the beach while being surrounded by windsurfers.

A quick visit to Bar Beach before the show in Newcastle.

Sydney Australia We stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel where I took the double rainbow cover photo. We stayed in Sydney for four days and were able to visit Palm Beach, famous for our Lighthouse adventure. Shelly Beach where I got some great “kids at the beach” shots. Bondi Beach where they were having a “Sculpture By The Sea” display. I also got some more great shots of “kids on the beach”.

Top left: is the Intercontinental Hotel where we stayed. The private bar on top was great for photos. The picture of Annie to the right has the world famous Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Bridge.

Shelly Beach: We met a nice couple from Las Vegas who were on their honeymoon. They were kind enough to take the picture of Annie and me. The shot through the tree looks back towards Manly Beach.

Palm Beach: the site of our lighthouse adventure. The foot trail was the only means to get to the top. We had to stop often to catch our breath . When we finally made it to the top we got caught in a storm. The path was to wet and treacherous to go back down so we were stuck and not sure what to do. Thatʼs when Phil called us to come into the house. Thank God he was there.

Phil Tanner was the gentleman that rescued us from the storm. The lighthouse was built in 1880 and all the stones were hand made and carved to perfection. The lighthouse is still in service.

Turns out Phil was a “Caricature Artist” and used his talent to earn money to make his trip to Australia from Europe on his bicycle. It took him 18 months to get to Sydney by way of China and Russia. Thatʼs 19,545 miles! I bet his legs were tired.

Bondi Beach Made for kids... of all ages!

The State Theatre: is one of the most beautiful places weʼve ever worked.

Sydney At Night: after the show Annie and I went for a walk and got some very cool nighttime scenes.

The wet sidewalk made for a perfect shot.

Top left: I shot this of the city through a restaurant that was closing, I thought the wine glasses added a nice touch. As we headed back to the hotel we passed by this ultra modern store.

Melbourne Australia

Mirrored staircase in the lobby of our hotel.

Always looking for a new way to shoot the ordinary. Right page: night flags, city from our room, harbor, passerby, lady bug and the Melbourne race track.

Melbourne harbor bridge, sculptures at night.

Victoria Canada The horse and carriage makes life seem slower like the good old days... billboard campaign.

Left to right: chain fence, lady loves her dog, the Empress, State Capitol Building, park bench and pompous grass.

Top: leaf in water, fall trail Bottom: boardwalk, sidewalk to nowhere.

A poetic gazebo Seaplane at sunset.

Amsterdam Netherlands: Bikes forever how could anyone know which one was theirs? Right page: The street actors were pretty cool.

Killarney Ireland: we happened to arrive in Killarney on St. Patrickʼs Day.

St. Maryʼs Cathedral

We took a tour of the Ring Of Kerry. Every year in their festival they crown a goat King Puck and party for 3 days. The car is a 1953 Ford Anglia. Theyʼd use the Peat to insulate, heat, and cook with. It was dried in the fields and was formed into bricks that were very dense.

This is a loft room. In the winter they would bring their farm animals (hereʼs looking at you) that were ready to give birth into the fenced area in their home so they wouldnʼt have to go out in the cold to tend to them. An entire family of 20 or more would live in these small two room homes. Right page: scenic views on our tour.

Ocean + Puppy = Love... The bridge was the home of Daniel OʼConnell. This is the only church in Ireland not named after a saint. It is the OʼConnellʼs Church. Multi-colored fishnet and apartments.

Ring Of Kerry: waterfall.

As you can see to the right...

The water in the lake is the actual color it wasnʼt photo enhanced. The rock walls separate their lands. The ram posed for me as I shot out of the car window. I thought that was nice of him.

A Lord of Irelandʼs home where the grounds were spectacular.

This was taken as we were leaving Cavan Ireland in the morning.

Shot in our hotel lobby in Castlebar Ireland.

Dublin Ireland: college campus.

Christ Church If you look to the right of the pipe organ you will see a person to give you perspective. Right page: street performer Top R: grafton street reflection in a shoe store display window. If you look close you can see me. M: bewleyʼs cafe B: sculpture

Cardiff Wales: this is a zoom technique Iʼm working on.

The nighttime and bottom right sunrise scenes were shot from my balcony. The church is actually a coffee shop. I thought their trees were unique as was the scenery on all our drives.

Shot in our hotel lobby...

Birmingham England: shot from my room on the 17th floor. This was hand laid tile work in the courtyard of the Symphony Hall.

Symphony Hall courtyard and other sculptures around the city.

Mosaic made of 1 inch squares.

Manchester England Walking bridge that led to main street.

Reflections of the city, bridge support, river view, arch bridge, sparkling duck, long haired statue, serene swans, dinner plates over our buffet and wire mesh sculpture.

Newcastle England: Sydneyʼs sister bridge. Right page: city scenes, convention center, arch bridge to the convention center.

Our hotel was converted from a winery. This was the most unique room Iʼve ever stayed in. The shower was behind the portholes of the bed... Right page.

London: taking the train.

Left: Prince Albert Memorial Statue Top: Royal Albert Hall Bottom R: hotel lobby

Bovey Castle While in Devon United Kingdom we stayed in a castle. It was the coolest place to stay for a couple of nights. The grounds were unbelievable.

Bournemouth England: this is Stone Hinge... How it looked then and now.

Glasgow Scotland The man was taken while on the train ride to Glasgow. I place my camera on my bag on the table and snapped the shot without him knowing. I found it interesting to see an Apple store in an old world building.

Look closely in the mirror of the store front window and youʼll see a little girl walking with her mother. I didnʼt realize it until I downloaded the pictures. It was one of those fortunate accidents.

Gstaad Switzerland Right page: the church was built in 1453 and is still in service. BR: they call this Diabloʼs Bowling Pin.

Bermuda: gibbs hill lighthouse shot at sunset.

We stayed at the Fairmont Southampton... Annie enjoying life at the beach!

Right page: Wanda & Annie, Me & Paul Jackson Jr., Quincy Jones, Kenny & Michael McDonald, Grand finally of “We Are The World” L to R Siedah Garrett, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Michael McDonald and Patti Austin.

Horseshoe Bay Of all the beaches in the world, Horseshoe Bay is one of the most photographed...
