CAST Alex Monge is a graduate of the American Musical

and Dramatic Academy in NY. Theater credits include: High School Musical, Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar, Spring Awakening, and Legally Blonde.

Isaiah Alexander comes from the small town of La

Brea in the south of Trinidad and Tobago. He had his first encounter with performing at the age of 10 when he entered his primary school’s Calypso competition with an original composition and subsequently won.

He continued performing throughout secondary school at Presentation College, San Fernando with the school choir. After being a part of Once Upon a Mattress, his first musical theater performance with the choir, he decided that theater was his chosen career. He has since performed in Children of Eden, Hairspray and Crazy for You.He has also performed at the World Hip Hop Championships in Las Vegas with the TNT Mega Crew in 2012. He is currently studying at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy where he is pursuing a BFA in Musical Theater.

John Dempsey was born in Glasgow, Scotland. At

the age of 10 he first found his love of musical theatre by playing Joseph in Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat. It was from there he decided that he wanted Musical Theatre to be his career. At 18 he was accepted into Laine Theatre Arts London with a full scholarship.

He worked professionally for 4 years with Disney, Spirit Productions, QDOS Entertainment and Evolution Productions before deciding that he wanted to go back to school and move to New York. He was accepted to AMDA which is where he is about to graduate from. He is so excited to be part of this concert and is thankful for being invited to perform with this incredibly talented company of international artists.

Leticia Vita is very excited to come on board with the

cast of Foreign exchange this year. After graduating from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy she has starred in several one act plays with Love Creek production and been featured in other Cabarets with Simplicity Productions. Recently she played Frankie in a stage rendition of They shoot horses, Don’t they? entitled Letters to wall street in an Era of Wonderful Nonsense. She can’t wait to be back on stage with a new cast.

Chih-Heng, Liao is a Freshman of AMDA

Love to my Family, Friends and Teachers.

Born and raised in Turin, Italy, Francesca Capetta started her singing and acting career when she was six years old. She studied Italian voice techniques with teachers like Michele Fischietti (Seth Riggs’ alumn) and Martina Grosse Burlage in Turin, Milan and Rome. Francesca attended the Music Academy of Mogol and at the same time she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.

In 2013 she moved to NYC to attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy NY, where she won a scholarship and she improved her singing, acting and dancing techniques. Francesca will graduate in February 2015 and looks forward for her bright and exciting future in New York City.

Madeline Perrone is thrilled to be making her NYC debut in Foreign Exchange II, Global Heat.

As a recent graduate from New York’s American Musical and Dramatic Academy, venturing from Australia, Madeline’s recent credits include Kathy Seldon in Singin’ in the Rain, Second runner up on Australia’s Got Talent (Fremantle Media Australia/ SYCOtv) multiplaced award winner in the World Championships of Performing Arts (LA) and next month portraying the legendary Bonnie Parker in Bonnie and Clyde.

Madeline would like to thank all her fellow Foreign Exchangers, East Harlem Presents, Forecast Productions, Raphael Benavides and her incredible vocal coach and friend Christian Fletcher for this wonderful opportunity.

Paloma Munoz was born in Cordoba, Argentina.

At an early age she started singing and dancing in Festivals and Concerts in her home country. At the age of 18 she ventured to the world of Theatre, reason that moved her to study Musical Theatre at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC. Since then, she has been part of Time Temple, a live art exposition at the Guggenheim’s Museum and recently performed in the 1 Minute Play Festival. She couldn’t be more excited and grateful for the chance to perform in Foreign Exchange this year!

Richard Lafleur is a Canadian Actor/Singer/Dancer/

Voiceover Artist just out of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in the UK with his Masters in Acting. Prior to the Old Vic he was most recently seen as a lead singer on the worlds two largest cruise lines; Carnival and Royal Caribbean International. Aside from performing he loves Ice Hockey, the pattern of “Gingham”, Argyle socks, and wicker furniture. He once went to a gym. Once.

Roseanna Bell is a graduate from the American

Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) and is excited to be making her singing debut in ‘Foreign Exchange’ alongside so many talented people.

Originally from Sydney, Australia, Roseanna has been involved in numerous productions in New York including Bollywood Dreams at George St Playhouse, Ephemera at the Tank, the Zeitgeist production of ‘Hats Off ’: The Purge Of Christmas, and has recently completed a Work in Progress Showcase at the Judson Memorial Church.

Pepe Nufrio - At the age of 6 I wanted to be an Opera singer yet, that young dream wasn’t cool enough to tell neither my friends nor my parents.

I started training vocally at the age of 17 in Spain. At the age of 19 I started studying economics trying to pursue my parents dream of having a stable easy life without many risks. As of today, and thanks to my family’s support, I’m here in NYC running after a dream and fighting for a goal.

Ronny Dutra - Professional ballroom dancer, singer

and actor. Ronny is thrilled to be starting the year with such a great opportunity and amazing cast. Previous productions include Sway 2.0 A Dance trilogy , Sway A Dance trilogy, Legally Blonde - Curtain Calls Stamford/ CT” and some brazilian productions such as Mark in RENT and Wilbur in Hairpray.

Eyakeno Ekpo is elated to be sharing the stage

with these beautiful perfo rmers. Eyakeno recently graduated from AMDA and is ready to embark in this journey as a working actor and grow as a person.

Cassidy Robertson is an actress, singer, songwriter

from Calgary Alberta Canada. Before moving to NYC to attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, Cassidy performed alongside Colin Mochrie at the Calgary Fringe Festival as a cast member of the Improv Guild of Calgary. She also played Ophelia in the Calgary Fringe Festivals Hamlet: making tragedy fun, where the dialogue remained in iambic pentameter but the words were fully improvised. Cassidy is so excited to be part of this concert “Foreign Exchange II: A Constellation of Rising Stars” and wants to thank Forecast productions for this amazing opportunity.

Christian Fletcher (Artistic Director) has performed with the opera companies of Santa Fe, Banff, Vancouver, Houston Lyric, San Jose, Opera Northeast, Rockland, Boston Lyric, NYCO and the Manhattan School. His concert work has taken him around the globe, including concerts in London, Paris, Prague, Nice, Milan, Athens, Taipei and the islands of Greece.

He has frequently been a soloist with the New York Choral Society, Choral Society of the Hamptons, Choral Society of the Moriches, Huntington Orchestra, Houston Grand Chorale, Baltimore Symphony and at the US Open tennis tournament. Musical Theater roles include leads in many Gilbert and Sullivan productions, Tony in West Side Story (Tour), and Macheath in The Threepenny Opera (Rockland). He has originated roles in Enter the Guardsman, The Green Heart and The Wild Party (Lippa) and taught improv and voice at the Manhattan Theatre Club.

He has taught music at the Hampton Day School, has coached cabarets, corporate CEOs, Miss USA pageants and specializes in singing for dancers and actors also internationally in Taiwan, Brazil, France, Italy and Canada.

Christian is Artistic Director of Forecast Productions, which produces concerts in Central Park, cabarets and outreach programs and founded Forecast Talent, a division for career counseling and career advancement.

In addition to his varied accomplishments, Christian is an accomplished chef, and is working on two books and has published articles online.

Raphael Benavides is the Executive Director of The Poet’s Den Gallery and Theater, a beautiful cultural center located at 108th Street and Second Ave.

He has broad experience in the restaurant industry having opened three very successful restaurants in Long Island between 1992 and 1996. In 2004 he opened Ricardo Steakhouse in New York City and in 2009 he opened a Peruvian Cuisine restaurant called Ceviche, later renamed Ricardo Ocean Grill. In 2008 he collaborated and consulted with Michelle Cruz to open East Harlem Café, his latest venture is Prime One16 Steakhouse also in East Harlem. He was fundamental in the build-out and design of Sabor Latino Restaurant and Lounge in Queens, NY. He has also consulted for many other restaurants in NYC. His theater production company has been very prolific producing outstanding musicals, including A Soldier’s Song, The Importance of Doing Art, Growing Up Gonzales, and The Latin Nutcracker which he Co-Produced with Vanessa Williams, and many other off Broadway plays, comedy shows, Poetry Slams such as Poetry Idol, concerts etc. and his marketing company “East Harlem Presents” provides marketing strategies for many Broadway Production companies, he has worked with productions such as The Mountaintop, Stickfly, Wicked, Godspell, Ghost, Motown The Musical, Ann and many others.

He produced The Salsa Nights written by Candido Tirado, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Beauty Queen Of Leenane, The Harlem Shakespeare Festival, The Italian Lesson, The Stronger, among others.

In 2008 he founded the East Harlem Film Society which in turn is the presenter of the East Harlem International Film Festival which takes place every summer and The Puerto Rican Film Festival in the autumn. He is also the Editor in Chief of the HADA Magazine a publication dedicated to support independent filmmakers.

He was named “New Yorker Of The Week” by the TV Network NY1 News for his work helping the people affected by the explosion on March 12th, 2014 on Park Avenue and 116th Street.

With a vibrant and artistic culture you can’t find a street in this uptown Manhattan neighborhood that doesn’t speak to its loud and proud Latino community.

East Harlem, famously known as El Barrio or Spanish Harlem, has a rich history of art, music and Hispanic culture that can be seen on a stroll around the neighborhood. Flags from countries from all over Latin America anchor many community gardens, colorful murals decorate the tenement cityscape, and Marc Anthony Salsa tunes celebrate it in cars and bodegas.

In the 1600s, the Wecksquaesgek Natives were the first settlers in the area known today as East Harlem. Later, according to our history books, it was settled by Dutch settlers led by Peter Stuyvesant who converted it into a farming community and named it Nieuw Haarlem, after a town in Holland. In 1664, the British invaded, settled in the town and changed its name to Harlem. Today East Harlem has undergone a new migration of people to the neighborhood.

People are moving into East Harlem not just due to its affordable living prices, but also because of its restaurants and vibrant Latino culture.

El Barrio provides the culture of an outer borough with the allure of saying you live in Manhattan.

The Conservatory Garden is Central Park’s six-acre formal garden. It is divided into three smaller gardens, each with a distinct style: Italian, French, and English. The Garden’s main entrance is through the Vanderbilt Gate, on Fifth Avenue between 104th and 105th Streets. This magnificent Iron Gate, made in Paris in 1894, originally stood before the Vanderbilt mansion at Fifth Avenue and 58th Street.

A 12-foot high jet fountain plays on the western end of the lawn, backed by tiered hedges and stairs that lead up to a wisteria pergola. On the walkway under the pergola are medallions inscribed with the names of the original 13 states.

Originally called the Park Avenue Retail Market, La Marqueta was opened in 1936 by Mayor LaGuardia and is located at 115th & 116th streets and Park Avenue. “La Marqueta” acknowledges East Harlem’s Latino heritage, but just a century ago, the area was predominantly Jewish and Italian.

In the 19th century, East 111th to 116th Streets bustled with Jewish and Italian vendors, who gathered around the tracks to sell their wares from pushcarts.

In 1936, then-mayor Fiorello LaGuardia ordered the construction of Park Avenue Market under the tracks, creating a centralized “modern, sanitary market.” From 1930 to 1960, East Harlem transformed into Spanish Harlem, and the market flourished as its overwhelmingly Hispanic population gave it it’ts current name. The area’s urban decline in the 1970s hit East Harlem hard, and many businesses left the area.

In the past decade, only a couple of La Marqueta’s five buildings have remained occupied. The others, along with surrounding storefronts, slowly deteriorated. In the last few years, however, several attempts have been made to revitalize the area. The NYC Economic Development Corporation (EDC) renovated some of the market’s buildings.

One now houses a smaller La Marqueta, home to a few shops such as Urban Garden Nurserie, Dorie Greenspan’s Buerre & Sal and the culinary/ business incubator Hot Bread Kitchen, which helps low-income immigrant women become economically independent by training them to bake and sell bread.

116th Street & Park Avenue

Right on the northeast corner of Central Park, 110th Street and Fifth Avenue you will find this enchanted paradise. Immediately accessible from Fifth Avenue and 110th Street, the path around the Meer is a pleasant alternative for people en route between East Harlem and the Upper East Side. The Dana Center, just inside the Park on 110th Street and Fifth Avenue, is just a few hundred feet from the 110th Street subway station on the 2/3 line. While it is highly accessible to the immediately surrounding community, the Meer remains one of the better kept secrets from most users of the rest of the Park.

The most famous Avenue in the world crosses right through the heart of East Harlem. While walking uptown you will find Central Park on your left hand side and the best Museums on your right. This part of the Avenue is well known as “MUSEUM MILE” and every summer on the second Tuesday in June, for the past 36 years, nine of the country’s finest museums —all ones that call Fifth Avenue home— collectively open their doors for free to New Yorkers and visitors for a mile-long block party and visual art celebration.

The eight museums along the mile are El Museo del Barrio, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the CooperHewitt , the Jewish Museum, the National Academy Museum, Neue Galerie and the Museum of the City of New York. Along with the opportunity to see some of the world’s finest art collections, there are plenty of outdoor festivities: face painting, chalk drawing, live music and other block-party-type events. The festival, which spans 23 city blocks, kicks off at 6pm, rain or shine. During this annual festival, 5th Avenue is closed to traffic and becomes home to a block party, complete with musical and artistic entertainment for children and adults.

Fifth Avenue from 82nd Street to 110th Street

The East River Esplanade, a 2-mile-long city-owned pub­lic park that runs from 63rd to 125th Street. The Esplanade was built in 1939 as part of the construction of the FDR Drive and it is the oldest portion of the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway. The esplanade is a multi-use path with no separation between cyclists and other wheeled users and pedestrians.

Located in the waterfront side of East Harlem it is bordered on the east by the East River and on the west primarily by the FDR, if you keep going south the path runs next to Gracie Mansion above the FDR. The opening of the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway in 2003 marked the first time that cyclists were allowed to ride in the park. The bikeway then continues to East 125th Street.

The Esplanade offers an excellent connection to the greenway on Randall’s Island via the pedestrian bridge at East 103rd Street. There are plans in the near future to transform this waterfront into a beautiful place for New Yorkers to enjoy.

Central Park is a great place to explore on a bicycle offering breathtaking views from flat, hilly and scenic terrain. With it’s scenic views and hilly terrain, Central Park Drives provide cyclists with a relaxing ride or a challenging workout, depending on their interest.

No permit is required to bike in Central Park, however there are several laws and rules that every cyclist must obey: Pedestrians have the right of way at all times. At crosswalks, cyclists must slow down, yield to pedestrians and then proceed cautiously. Cycling is prohibited on all pedestrian paths except the marked shared paths at 96th St and W. 106th108th St. On a bike you can see a lot of the park in a short amount of time. Park drives provide three long distance routes to choose from - 6.1 miles, 5.2 miles or 1.7 miles. You can also bike some shorter routes by crossing through the park at a number of locations.

An oasis in the middle of New York City, Randall’s Island Park comprises of an island in the East River, between East Harlem, the South Bronx and Astoria, Queens.

One of the city’s main recreation hubs, the Park has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years, in large part through the vision and support of former-mayor Michael Bloomberg, in keeping with his historic citywide commitment to the preservation of open spaces and waterfront restoration and development.

The park is equipped with Tennis courts, golf course range and 66 Soccer and Football fields. The pedestrian bridge is a vital link from East Harlem and the Upper East side to Randall’s Island.

The Island is home to the biggest Art Fair in the country “Frieze New York” which takes place every year in May and thousands of visitors come to East Harlem to enjoy the visual arts. Electric Zoo and Governor’s Ball Concerts also take place in Randall’s Island.

Although only a few blocks long, this friendly neighborhood park is packed to the brim with things to do. On busy days, runners circle the track while groups of friends shoot hoops, hit balls, and take advantage of the baseball, soccer fields and handball courts. The recreation center on it’s grounds offers a fitness room, exercise equipment, and classes for those looking for a good workout.

The park is the host of “Street Games” every spring, a day full of fun games and activities for kids and adults sponsored by Disney.

Walking around the park art enthusiasts will find sculptures by local artists that adorn the park at every single turn. If you venture to the Northeast corner of the park you will find the famous Italian restaurant RAOS but don’t try to make a reservation, it is almost impossible to get one.

1st Avenue and 114th Street New York, NY 10029

East River Plaza transformed the former Washburn Wire Factory into a vibrant commercial center in East Harlem. Conveniently located just off the FDR Drive between 116th and 119th Streets, the project created thousands of new jobs, generates millions of dollars in new tax revenue, and provides a unique shopping experience for the community and all New Yorkers East River Plaza is an investment in the East Harlem community and will be a catalyst for further economic development. The project created approximately 2,000 construction jobs and is expected to create 1,200 to 2,000 new, permanent retail jobs. East River Plaza is the first retail power center in Manhattan and is home to Costco, Target, Marshalls, Old Navy, PetSmart, Bob’s Discount Furniture, and many others. The center is attached to a 1,248 car parking garage.

Pleasant Avenue and 117th Street New York, NY 10029

Nestled in the heart of East Harlem, The Poets Den Theater and Gallery has established a cultural center for the East Harlem community and beyond to gather and participate in arts enjoyment. The founders rescued this onceabandoned building and transformed it into a haven where creative energy abounds and where artists engage in multidisciplinary expressions.

The vintage furniture and decor juxtapose a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system to harmonize the theater’s old-world-style and charm. This multi-sensory environment is designed to delight audiences with a pleasing and fulfilling entertainment experience.

Many theater performances, readings, and poetic expressions have received public acclaim from discerning audiences and media. As well as movies, shorts, documentaries that have also been screened for public and private audiences.

The two spaces provide a complete entertainment experience where audiences delight from the live shows or movies offered and then retire to the gallery space for fellowship/networking, exhibit displays and receptions.

The gallery offers local, national and international artist opportunities to showcase their work. The Poet’s Den is a major institution contributing to the ever-changing landscape of the emerging East Harlem neighborhood.

The Spirit of East Harlem Mural was completed in 1978 by Hank Prussing.

Located at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and 104th Street it is one of the largest, most iconic, most noticeable, large scale artworks in New York City.

It was the summer of 1973 when Hank Prussing decided to go up on a pull-up scaffold by himself armed with oil paints and a brush, and he meticulously began to create a mural on the side of a four-story residential building. People walked by the mural every day to see it progress. Slowly, recognizable faces started to emerge from the wall – people who lived in the neighborhood, even people who lived in the building.

Looming above a rapidly changing neighborhood, “The Spirit of East Harlem” represents a rougher yet more romantic time in East Harlem’s history. People who look up at it can imagine what it was like to wander East Harlem in the 1970s.

In 1972, Hank Prussing, a young artist from Maryland, was in East Harlem surveying the neighborhood’s public art for an architecture course at Pratt Institute. He was interested in street art and East Harlem was already known for its murals.

The Rev. George Calvert, pastor of the Church of the Living Hope on East 104th Street, suggested that Prussing add his own mural in the neighborhood. Prussing, who’d never created an outdoor mural, initially felt taken aback.

When Prussing agreed to paint the mural, Calvert arranged for local stores to donate paint and a scaffold. The artist planned the project during the summer of 1973, taking hundreds of photographs of East Harlem residents and becoming captivated by its people and culture.

104th Street and Lexington Avenue

Marcus Garvey Park, or Mount Morris Park as it was previously named and is still referred to by some people, is located in East Harlem. The park is bounded by 120th Street and 124th Street and by Madison Avenue on it’s east side. The 20.17-acre park, centered on a massive and steep outcropping of schist and surrounded by flat lawns and playing fields, interrupts the flow of Fifth Avenue traffic, which is routed around the park via Mount Morris Park West. The park is operated and maintained by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.

Before the arrival of Europeans, the rocky hill was used by Native Americans as a lookout station to see over the entire island. During the American Revolutionary War, Hessian soldiers “mounted a battery on [the hill],” “to command the mouth of the Harlem River. “When Fifth Avenue was extended north of Central Park as the railroads made Upper Manhattan more accessible, the rocky hill proved a difficult obstacle to clear and was set aside for public use in 1836 and officially opened in 1840. music has been played in the park since it’s beginnings, with the Parks Department promoting performances in 1872 and 1893. By 1900 a refreshment booth had been built at the 120th Street and Madison Avenue entrance to the park. A long vehicular tunnel to send Fifth Avenue through the center of the rock was proposed by Manhattan Borough President Samuel Levy and approved by Robert Moses in 1936. It was never built.

In the summer of 1969 the park was the site of the Harlem Cultural Festival, a series of concerts that came to be known as “Black Woodstock.”

In 2011 the Richard Rogers Amphitheater was open in the park.
