We are excited to proceed with X-Adventure Dunsborough presented by Siras and welcome you to the beautiful South West for a weekend of adventure. Please be aware of the COVID restrictions and treat each other with respect (and space) whilst enjoying plenty of fresh air and exercise. The Rapid Ascent team

WELCOME FROM: HON ROGER COOK MLA, DEPUTY PREMIER; MINISTER FOR TOURISM and HON ALANNAH MACTIERNAN MLC, MINISTER FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT The State Government is a proud sponsor of the X-Adventure Dunsborough through its Regional Events Scheme. The scheme was established to support smaller and emerging events in regional Western Australia to boost tourism, increase community vibrancy and participation, and develop regional areas. It also plays an important role in positioning Western Australia as an exciting destination to visit and a great place to live by showcasing and promoting the host region’s unique and diverse attractions. Sixty-two regional events across WA have been funded through the 2021-22 Regional Events Scheme, which includes the Regional Aboriginal Events Scheme, with a funding pool of $150,000 exclusively allocated to events delivering Aboriginal activities and experiences. We are pleased to sponsor these events, which will help to stimulate regional economies and communities that have been set back as a result of COVID-19. Tourism is a key part of the Government’s plan to energise the economy, create jobs and develop business opportunities, especially in regional Western Australia. Events play an important role in this plan, with the Government sponsoring a range of sporting, cultural, arts and culinary events across the State, through Tourism Western Australia, to attract visitors, encourage them to stay longer, disperse further and do more while they are here. We hope everyone enjoys this event and takes the time to explore the South West region.

HON ROGER COOK MLA DEPUTY PREMIER MINISTER FOR TOURISM

HON ALANNAH MACTIERNAN MLC MINISTER FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF BUSSELTON The City of Busselton welcomes spectators and participants to Dunsborough for X-Adventure 2022. The City is once again very proud to support and host Australia’s largest off-road triathlon, which takes in some of the State’s most picturesque coastline and has proven to be very popular with both visitors and locals alike. The Meelup Regional Park and surrounds are the perfect setting for this nature-based event. After the devastating fires earlier this year, the region is so fortunate that this iconic park can still host such an event. I would like to acknowledge the monumental effort of all those who helped save the area and those that continue to help in the regeneration and management of the park. I extend my congratulations to event organisers in what remains challenging times and wish participants and all those involved with the X-Adventure a fantastic race day. For those visiting the region, I encourage you while you are down to explore all that is on offer in the region. Busselton, Dunsborough and Yallingup are friendly and bustling towns offering great shopping, relaxed dining and fantastic entertainment. I also encourage you to explore the many delights our region has on offer. Mayor Grant Henley City of Busselton p2 2022 X-Adventure Dunsborough - presented by Siras - EVENT PROGRAM

X-ADVENTURE SHORT COURSE - COURSE DESCRIPTION Race Start, Saturday 2nd April 10:20am 10:40am

Short Course - INDIVIDUALS RACE START Short Course - RELAY TEAMS RACE START

COVID SAFE STEPS AT THE START: • The swimmer plus up to 3 additional spectators / support crew permitted to attend the start area • Team swimmers (and spectators) must wait until the solo athletes have started before congregating at the start area • Team runners encouraged to wait at T1 and not come to start START LOCATION NEW LOCATION: At the southern end of the swim enclosure, at the end of Bay View Cres. COURSE MARKING: The run course will be marked with red arrows and pink surveyors’ tape, and the MTB course will be marked with blue arrows and blue surveyors’ tape.

750m Ocean Swim

The swim leg will commence in waist deep water, between two small buoys, approx 50m from the shore. It will be a wide start line allowing plenty of space for all swimmers. See the map below for the swim course - swum in an anti-clockwise direction keeping all buoys on your left. Exit the water up the boat ramp and run into T1. • •

Swimmers should spread out along the entire start line with plenty of space, all positions on the start line will be equal. Be aware of the buoys marking the course as indicated on the map – it is up to you to make sure you know where to go.

Transition 1 (T1): Old Dunsborough Boat ramp car park. Swim > Run • The TA will be divided into individual and team zones. Individuals must pre-place your running gear in the designated area. Leave your wetsuit / swim gear in the same area after changing. • Running gear may be dropped off after 8:30am on Saturday and swim gear must be picked up before 2:00pm • Individuals - remember to put on your run number plate after the swim • Team runners - must wait for their team swimmer in the designated teams area inside the TA – NOT outside the TA or at the entry to the TA.

6.2km Coastal Run

Runners exit the TA and must remain on the sand or rocky coastline for the next 2.5km until Castle Rock. When you reach Castle Rock you turn left and run back towards Dunsborough on the coastal walking track. Continue along the marked trail as it turns right, away from the coastal track and ultimately along the edge of the golf course and then into T2 on the fairway. Run leg: • Keep an eye out for course markings at all times (red arrows and pink tape for the short course). • Runners must remain on the sandy beaches and rocky foreshore from T1 through to Castle Rock. • There will be NO water points along the course (this is an X-adventure race!). • Runners should be aware that the first half of the run course includes some very technical running over boulders, along soft sandy beaches and across slippery coastal rocks. • The run course is not closed to the public and you may encounter other trail users Transition 2 (T2): Dunsborough Country Club – 18th Fairway. Run > MTB • The TA will be divided into seperate individual and team zones (not specific numbered locations). Individuals must preplace your MTB and gear in the designated zone. Leave your running gear in the same area after changing. • T2 will be open for MTB gear to be dropped off after 8:30am and run gear must be picked up before 2:00pm. • Team riders must wait for their team runner next to your bike in your numbered area and transfer timing chip there – NOT outside the TA or at the entry to the TA.

11km Mountain Bike

Riders must walk their bike in the TA and then set off on the marked course adjacent to the golf fairways as it winds its way on a mix of single track and double track through the golf course towards the water tanks at the top of the hill. Continue following the marked course as it twists and turns along a flowing 11km loop within the Golf Course area. Riders must remain alert and watch out for course marking at all times as it is a very wiggly course and it is easy to get onto the wrong section of track if you are not aware of where you are. After finishing the loop all riders come back past the transition area and ride directly through to the finish line on your bike. p10 2022 X-Adventure Dunsborough - presented by Siras - EVENT PROGRAM

The MTB leg: • The course comes very close to itself on numerous occasions with riders at different parts of the course being very close to one another. Riders must follow the course markings at all times to ensure you follow the correct route. • There are no water points on the MTB course - riders must carry their own hydration / nutrition the whole way. • Slower riders must give way to faster riders by making space for them to pass. Faster riders MUST NOT just barge their way past a slower rider but alert them that you are there and then wait until called past. • Riders should be aware that the course is quite technical, twists and turns a lot and includes a lot of loose pea gravel, rocks, obstacles and logs. It is all ridable, but does require technical skill on a mountain bike.

Finish by riding your bike across the finish line •

Riders continue on their bikes directly through to the finish on your bike

Transition 2 (T2): Dunsborough Country Club – 18th Fairway. Run > MTB • The TA will be divided into individual and team zones. Individuals please pre-place your MTB and gear in your designated area. Leave your running gear in the same area after changing. • T2 will be open for MTB gear to be dropped off after 6:00am on Sunday and run gear and bikes must be picked up before 1:30pm on Sunday. • Team riders must wait for their team runner next to your bike in your numbered area and transfer timing chip there – NOT outside the TA or at the entry to the TA.

20km Mountain Bike

Riders must walk their bike in the TA and then set off on the marked course adjacent the golf fairways as it winds its way on a mix of single track and double track through the golf course towards the water tanks at the top of the hill. Continue following the marked course as it twists and turns along long sections of single track and the popular ‘Brown Street’ trail network in Meelup Regional Park and the Dunsborough Country Club golf course area. The course will come back near the Transition Area at the 12km pt before heading back up towards the water tanks. After finishing the loop all riders come back past the transition area and ride directly through to the finish line on your bike. The MTB leg: • The course comes very close to itself on numerous occasions in the single track so riders must follow the trail in front of them and keep a careful eye out for all course markings. • We strongly encourage riders to take all the water they need when they start the ride - it can get hot out there. • Slower riders must give way to faster riders by making space for them to pass. Fast riders MUST NOT just barge through. • Riders should be aware that the course is quite technical, twists and turns a lot and includes a lot of loose pea gravel, rocks, obstacles and logs. It is all ridable, but does require technical skill on a mountain bike to do so quickly and efficiently. We will make A and B lines over the more challenging obstacles - A line is technically more difficult but faster and B line is the easier option.

Finish by riding your bike across the finish line • •

Riders continue on their bikes directly through to the finish on your bike Please keep the expo area clear of bikes once you have finished by racking them up or putting them back on your cars.

Continue along the marked trail as it turns right, away from the coastal track and ultimately along the edge of the golf course and then into the finish on the 18th fairway. Run leg: • Keep an eye out for course markings at all times (red arrows and pink tape for the short course). • Runners must remain on the sandy beaches and rocky foreshore from T1 through to the turn around point. • There will be NO water points along the course. • Runners should be aware that the first half of the run course includes some very technical running over boulders, along soft sandy beaches and across slippery coastal rocks. We encourage you to take your time to save having an injury (such as rolling an ankle) and then open up a bit more speed on the return (if you have the energy!).

The finish •

Runners continue through to the finish in the middle of the event expo but please be aware of some mountain bike riders from the Long Course X-Adventure who may be finishing at the same time.
