Apartment 92/10 Location // Bogotå, Colombia. Area // 180 m2 // 1,937 sf Job // Lead Architect & Construction Manager Program // Renovation Brief // I was asked to renovate an apartment in a building constructed in the 1960’s by a famous Colombian architect, Alvaro Jimenez. A young professional, the owner was looking for an apartment that could accommodate a family in the near future. Proposal // Its interiors were dark, cold, and compartmentalized. This, along with a ceiling height of merely 2.2m, created a cramped space. The layout was divided in half. On one side, the private quarters: two bedrooms with a bathroom. On the other side, the social spaces: kitchen, living room, dining room, and TV room. The ceiling was demolished, exposing the structure. This exposure created the opportunity to flood the apartment with natural light from above, as well as to raise the ceiling height to create an open and airy feel.

House Zaragoza 09 Location // Sopo, Colombia // A residential neighborhood surrounded by the Andes Mountains, on the Valley of Guasca. Area // 282 m2 // 3,035 sf Job // Lead Architect Program // Renovation + New // Guest House + 2 Rooms + Service Area Brief // A local artist wanted to transform his studio into a house to accommodate his growing family. It was very important to him that the house read as one cohesive unit, rather than as an addition.
First Floor
Proposal // The original studio consisted of two cubes: one with the art studio and office, and the other with his apartment. To complement this language, I added two additional cubes; one would be located nearest the road and would hold the guest house and the service area, while the other, a duplex, would hold the rooms. The original apartment was expanded and transformed into a social area with a kitchen, a living room, and a dining room. Surrounded by floor to ceiling bookshelves, a large window seat was created, opening up the space and allowing occupants to face the outdoors, revealing the garden and one’s proximity to nature.

House La Roche Le Corbusier Location // Paris, France Academia// Parsons: New School Brief // I had to choose a very personal way of representing an iconic house that I was assigned to analyze. I was awarded House La Roche Jeanneret by Le Corbusier, located in France. I found this prompt the perfect opportunity to pursue a personal interest within my 3D artist career: the seasons. Proposal // I decided to highlight the passage of time, from day to night, from spring to winter.

UNION Pool Location // New York, USA. Academia // Parsons: New School Brief // For Studio 2 course we where asked to work with the homeless. After many interviews, visits to homeless centers, and volunteering at community kitchens we where asked to propose a project that would help end the homeless situation in New York. Proposal // In the Middle Ages, an epoch generally dismissed as dark and dirty, men and women bathed together and took their time in the process, defining bathing as an activity of leisure.
People pay to use the pool. The funds collected are then used to provide other services for free. Water pods contain a shower, locker, sink, and toilet. Every pod represents 3,850 homeless people (a total population of 69,300). As the homeless population decreases, pods are accordingly eliminated, gradually revealing more of the public pool. When the entirety of the homeless population is relieved, the entire pool also becomes available.
The Reformation and the rise of Puritanism diminished the importance of cleanliness, and after the 16th century, bathing fell into disuse. Nakedness, a natural state once sought after and admired, became synonymous with sin. The homeless population is often looked down upon as being dirty and unsanitary, creating a divide between the homeless population and those more fortunate to have homes. Allowing the homeless population an opportunity to clean themselves is the fastest way of reintegrating them into the broader population. It is the most effective way to break the divide between “them” and “us”. Site: City Hall PUBLISHED IN INTERIOR DESIGN MAGAZINE ED. JUNE 2015. PAGES 128-130

the NOOK Location // New York, USA. Academia // Parsons: New School Brief & Proposal // The challenge of this assignment was to identify a unique necessity of a future group of people that will inhabit New York’s first micro apartment project at Carmel Place (My Micro NY) from nARCHITECTS. These apartments efficiently house the basic needs of their users. The concept was to create a space where users could escape from the city and grab a drink or quick bite. The idea was to recreate that feeling you get when you walk into a library from the busy city. An immediate sense of calm and privacy. After looking into many spaces that could provide this sense of tranquility, I was inspired by old wine cellars characterized by high vaulted ceilings, and quiet, dim lit spaces. I discovered an ample set of materials that are used in the wine making process and then are quickly discarded. Wine bottles, corks, barrels, and crates with metal reinforcements. This is how I decided to create a wine bar made mostly out of free and recycled materials from the wine making process. Also, the use of recycled materials would play a critical role in the overall ambiance of the bar.
Recycled materials have a history behind them, the place where they came from, the processes they have been involved in, the different colors that had have a history behind them, the place where they came from, the proccesses they have been involved in, the different colors that had bled onto them, the smells they have acquired. They all come together to celebrate wine and age.
