The Eastern´s Plains are one of the most beautiful natural settings known in Colombia. A stunning and endless green blanket stretches to the horizon and only fades away at infinity, to enter into a strange communion with the blue sky that dies or is born, right there, to where the curious eyes of the traveler can behold.

Development the initiative of pedagogical project of cultural identity: "Colonies Festival” scheduled for August 30, 2013 by academics authorities of the I.E. Domingo Savio, fifth and seventh grades, presented to the entire school community, this document draws together the main characteristics of the region of our Colombian Eastern Plains. Under the guidance of English class (Professor Patricia Cespedes) and Social´s class (Professor Angela Piedad), welcome to discover the vastness of the PLAIN REGION in the DOMINGO SAVIO School !

PRESENTATION
The Orinoco region is also known as the east plains, due the vast plains that are found in his territory, located in the east part of Colombia, the inhabitants of the Orinoco region are known as Llaneros.
GEOGRAPHY It is a fairly flat territory with low vegetation. It stretches from the skirts of the Cordillera Oriental to the border with Venezuela and from the Arauca River to the Guaviare River. It is an area of 310,000 square kilometres. The Macarena mountain range, approximately 2,000 m high, is situated in this region.
In the Colombian Orinoco region the following sub regions are found: -
Piedemonte Llanero:
to this area belong the plains located closer to the east mountain range of the Andes region. - Llanuras del Meta y del Guaviare: His name come from the plains that are located in the area in the valleys of this two rivers. - SerranĂa de La Macarena: known by the national park with the same name. - Pantanos del Arauca: wetland formed by the plains of the bank of the Arauca river.

CLIMATE
The climate is humid, with average temperature of 27ยบC. The raining season begins in April to August; from December to March it is not very rainy. The environment humidity is 80%.
FLORA and FAUNA
The Eastern Plains Region is composed of wide plains and savannahs. Among the typical fauna are the Sabanero deer, the chig端iro, the red cocora, the goitrous monkey as well as the tiger, the anaconda, the Orinoco caiman and the four-nosed viper (bothrops asper). The Orinoquia also hosts more than 300 bird species, most of them aquatic.
HISTORY Before the coming of the Spaniards in the mid-1500s, the llanos were inhabited by various indigenous groups. When the Spaniards began to colonize the area, a new population group arose, the first cowboy of the Americas, the llanero. The llanero's language is peppered with words and phrases unchanged from the idioms of the first Spaniards.
Part Indian, part Spanish to begin with, and now a mixture of many ethnic groups.
ECONOMY The region is grounded in livestock production and agriculture, in the last years important oilfield has been found, in the Cusiana area.

THE “LLANEROS� The llaneros are skilled horsemen, adept at rounding up and corraling cattle on the Hatos, or cattle ranches as well as on the open range. Wearing a distinctive starched hat, they appear impervious to heat or cold, and often go barefoot. Llaneros display their skills in coleo competitions in which cowboys try to rope cows by grabbing their tails, colas, and dragging them to the ground.
The “Llaneros� are proud of their hard lives, the true cowboys live close to nature from cradle to grave.
DANCE
Musical rhythm of the Easter Plains Music with a fast rhythm that predominates on the Eastern plains. Generally, it is accompanied by singing and corridos. there is also tapping as a result of its flamenco ancestry. The joropo is performed with cuatro, harp and capachos (small maracas). Varieties: The pasaje (a slow rhythm), the zumba que zumba, the galeron and the golpe, also called seis. At times, contrapunteos songs are heard, consisting of verbal duels and repartee. In the region, the term "joropo" means party and dance.
The joropo is the traditional dance of the Eastern Plains of Colombia, in which the pride, the gallantry, and the everyday life of the region's peasants are exhibited.

GASTRONOMY
One of the typical dishes of this region is the “MAMONA�, which prepares typical roasting beef cuts in firewood for an entire day. Other special dishes are hallaca, rice (containing beef tail and vegetables), rabbit, black beans, sweet corn arepas with cheese. This region also specializes in soups like guamarra boiled, variety of chicken and beef hash with corned (salted and dried in the sun), in dishes such as turtles, capybara, and the typical drink rice: THE CHICHA.

There are many tourist places in the eastern plains that you can enjoy with your family and frie 1.Tourism nds. Plazuela de los Centauros, The Museum of the Birds, The Botanic Garden of Villavicencio, The Port of L贸pez and The Hacha Park, etc.
TOURIST Parque Natural Sierra de la Macarena (Natural Park) The park contains amazing landscapes. This is one of the most important wild life refuges of the world. It is composed by jungles, forests and brushwoods. It contains different locations: Ca単o Cristales, la Quebrada de la Curia, The Cuarzo Waterfall and The City of Stone.
ATTRACTIONS Ca単o Cristales, on its meridional zone, is a part of The Macarena Sierra; and it goes towards The Guayabero River. This river has five different tones and it runs across The Natural Park of Sierra de la Macarena. The river is composed by cascades, back waters and streams.

The flora of this region is grouped in its majority in the El Tuparro Natural Park, a Biosphere reserve. From this place all the landscapes from the Colombian oriental plains can be appreciated: savannahs, rivers, spouts of crystal water and especially the gallery forests that constitute a unique sight.
TYPICAL COSTUME The traditional dress for women is a flowered and long skirt, a white blouse and cotizas, all complemented by a simple hairdo half side and a flower on her head. The men wear long-sleeved white shirt, straw hat, black pants
