Corvallis High School’s 2022 outstanding Senior isabelle (Belle) Harvey
MICHELLE MCCONNAHA Ravalli RepublicCorvallis High School’s 2022
Outstanding Senior is Isabelle (Belle) Harvey who started attending Corvallis Schools in third grade after transferring from Victor School where she attended K-2.
Harvey said she enjoys Corvallis Schools because of the opportunities.
“Corvallis has such strong music and arts programs,” she said. “I like the teachers; they are all really awesome and know their stuff. I also get to be part of great clubs.”
Harvey has been in Interact, National Honor Society and Journalism, where she has done the daily morning announcements (live video and public address), and is the editor of the yearbook. She also has been on Student Council for four years and is Student Body President this year. Harvey participates in 4-H and organized the costumes for this year’s musical, The Sound of music, which CHS produced in april.
Harvey said she has enjoyed all the classes she has taken at CHS.
“I do really enjoy [Brittany]
Parson’s English class,” Harvey said. “She is a good teacher and pretty fun to be around. She is really organized and really good at teaching. I also
really like [amy] Hammill’s Calculus class, she’s a really good calculus teacher.” after graduation Harvey plans to travel to see relatives abroad.
“I’m going to take a gap year and I’m going to visit my grandma in Ireland and do some traveling around Europe,” she said. “Then I’m probably going to come back to the US or go to school in London for costume design. I’m excited.” She sews and is looking forward to learning costume design.
“I haven’t had a super-ton of opportunities to work on costumes around here, because it is the Bitterroot Valley,” Harvey said. “I love to sew and I love to design so that’s what I’m going for now. I could end up changing my mind but I’m keeping it open. I’m using that gap year to see what I really want to do.”
CHS Principal Cammie Knapp said Harvey is outspoken, organized and responsible.
“Isabelle (Belle) Harvey began our 2021-2022 school year by speaking to the entire staff at the opening ceremony, which included teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria, maintenance and administration about her perspective on what kids needed in education,” Knapp said. “She continued to advocate for her peers as we moved forward with planning for Homecoming Events, 12 Days
of Christmas, Earth week and teacher appreciation.”
Knapp recalled that last year, Harvey as the newly elected Student Body President of the Senior class, helped organize concessions for the 20-21 grad-
uation ceremony.
“If there is something that needs to be done, Belle fills in and makes sure it is taken care of, including photos for senior parents and students at their sporting events,” Knapp said.

Hadassah Wilson
darby High School’s outstanding senior is Hadassah Wilson
Darby High School’s outstanding senior is Hadassah Wilson who moved to Darby two years ago.
Counselor Kurt Kohn said she has made a great impact.
“She’s everything we expect from a Darby Student,” Kohn said. “She is involved in a lot of things, is an outstanding student, is hardworking, treats people with respect and is a good representative.”
Wilson said that it is the teachers who make Darby High School great.
“The teachers really want you to succeed and put a lot of effort into your success,” she said. “They do a really good job of forming relationships too.”
She listed her favorite Darby teachers as Steve Gideon, Brian Dufresne and Jennifer Burdette.
“I really like speech class as it is a place to talk about anything random,” she said. “I also like Gideon for track, cross-country, and history and government are interesting to me. He’s very helpful as a teacher and a coach.”
as a junior, Wilson went to
montana Girls State in Helena and then was selected to attend Girls Nation in Washington, D. C. She was the first DHS student to experience the honor.
Wilson said she enjoys sports. In her junior year she was the manager for the DHS Track and Field team after rupturing her achilles tendon and having surgery.
“It was a nine-month recovery time, I did crosscountry for rehab and then basketball,” Wilson said.
Last fall she ran with the cross-country team.
“I was not competitive in cross-country but I appreciated that I could be on the team with my younger siblings,” Wilson said.
“I appreciated it a lot. I didn’t think I could run that amount of distance. It was really good for me because I proved I could do something I didn’t think I could do. The distance is only 5k but for me, it was difficult because I’m a sprinter, not a distance runner.”
This spring she competed in track in the 400 meter, long jump, 4x1, 200 meter and also tried her hand at shot put.
“I really like the long jump and the 400,” Wilson said.
academically, she likes to learn and study and is the 2022 recipient of the $24,000 Lorentzen Endowment.
Wilson said she wants to become a Registered Nurse, work for a while in the medical field then become a nurse practitioner.
“If that’s what I choose after getting some experience,” she said. “my grandmother was a nurse and last year my time in physical therapy got me interested in the medical field. you can help people in any aspect of the medical field, but I feel that nursing would be pretty rewarding.”
Kohn agreed.
“It is a field with plenty of employment opportunities with a great need,” he said.
Wilson said everyone in her class who is going to college is planning to attend montana Tech in Butte.
Kohn said he’s never seen it happen before.
“Usually, they split across the state including the University of montana and montana State University,” he said.

Florence Carlton High School’s spotlighted senior is allison Streekstra.
She has run cross-country with Big Sky as FCHS has a co-op agreement with the Class aa school in missoula.
Streekstra also runs on the FCHS track team, as football manager she recorded all the football games and has participated in band and Pep-Band for four years. She is a valedictorian but is not in National Honor Society due to the timing of Covid happenings.
Principal Scott marsh said Streekstra’s four-point grade point average shows she is a “hard worker.”
“She isn’t taking any senior releases but is taking two dual credit classes, two advanced classes and three other classes for a full seven periods and will graduate with highest honors,” marsh said. “It is impressive when you do so many extracurricular activities, take challenging courses and maintain a 4.0 GPa.” marsh said Streekstra is one of the best
“She’s just a really great kid who always has a smile on her face,” marsh said. “She is appreciative, goal-driven and self-disciplined.”
as her math teacher in middle school he noted her determination.
“She was very dedicated to wanting to excel in the classroom as she always strived to not only get good grades, but also strived to learn the material and expand beyond proficiency and wanted to master the content,” marsh said.
Streekstra has attended Florence Carlton since kindergarten and said the feeling of community makes the school great.
“Everyone knows everyone,” she said. “you form relationships that stay, teachers are friends and coaches. The kindergarten teachers that I had are still here.”
She said the best part of high school has been her cross-country training, competition and experience.
“Competing with aa definitely had a big impact on me going to a Class B school,” Streekstra said. “The difference in the num-
ber of students, the different atmosphere of coaching, they took coaching more seriously at aa, it was intense. Plus, the friends I made.”
Her favorite class is anatomy and Physiology.
“The teacher, mr. [Joe] Ruffatto is one of my favorite teachers,” Streekstra said. “I’ve learned so much and it leads into what I want to do in the future, go into the medical field. I’ve taken Bio 1 and Chemistry from him and it has been a deciding factor for my future.”
Streekstra said having her mom be an oncology nurse motivated her to go into the field of medicine.
“I was accepted direct entry into the nursing program at Carroll College and I received a significant academic scholarship to attend there,” Streekstra said. “I have a strong desire for [providing] emergency care.”

Maria Kanenwisher plans to study biology
MICHELLE MCCONNAHA Ravalli RepublicHamilton High School chose to spotlight senior maria Kanenwisher who has lived in Hamilton all her life, attending Hamilton Schools since preschool.
She said Hamilton Schools are great because of the mixture of offerings.
“I think they have a really good balance between extracurriculars, high-quality teachers and sports,” Kanenwisher said. “Having opportunities for fun activities can get everyone involved, no matter your interest. I like the clubs, sports and actual classwork.”
Kanenwisher has been involved in Tennis, Cheer, Key Club, SPURS club and Spirit Club, where she runs an Instagram account for sporting events.
For her favorite class, she said every advanced Placement (aP) class she has taken, enjoying the challenge.
“But, I would say Humanities which is a push in aP Language,” Kanenwisher said.
”That was my junior year and I think [Dan] Kimsey and [Jenn] Carmody are excellent teachers. I learned about coming into my own writing style. History is my other favorite class.”
Kanenwisher plans to attend Brigham young University in Provo, Utah, and major in biology.
“I want to go into the medical field in some way, whether I want to be a doctor, or work in the administration, or foundation part of it, I’m not quite sure but the medical field in general interests me,” she said.
Intrigued by all things internal, anatomy Class with marie antonioli was also a favorite class.
“We got to make all the muscles on our mannequins and we dissected fetal pigs and other things,” Kanenwisher said.
“We also have a Zoology class and have dissected so many things. yesterday we dissected a big grasshopper and a starfish, tomorrow we’ll do a perch.”
For her senior project, Kanenwisher served as a junior board member and an intern at
Bitterroot Health Foundation. She and a friend organized a doubles tennis tournament to raise money for the Cancer Infusion Center which is soon to be built.
“We had 30-40 contestants and it was a good success,” Kanenwisher said.
HHS Principal Ryan Wells said, “maria is an excellent student who is incredibly kind.”
“She has been involved in a variety of activities and classes throughout her four years in high school,” Wells said. “She is not afraid of challenges and strives to put herself in situations that will help her succeed in life after HHS. Teachers consistently highlight maria as a student who excels in the classroom and the community.”

Stevi senior taylor Weigle
MICHELLE MCCONNAHA Ravalli RepublicTaylor Weigle is the Stevensville High School’s spotlighted senior.
“She is an amazing representation of Jacket Nation,” said Principal Eric Larson.
Weigle said she attended SHS for four years.
“I came from Lone Rock where we had 12 kids,” she said. “I think we had 90 something my freshman year at SHS so that was a giant change for me. as it turns out I knew a lot of people due to 4-H and FFa. many of SHS kids went to Lone Rock kindergarten through fifth grade then came here. We got to be at the same high school.”
Weigle said that the variety of students and classes make SHS the best.
“There are many different personalities and the teachers know how to deal with that very well,” Weigle said. “I think our staff and faculty bring us all together. I have had one of the best educational experiences here, compared to what I’ve heard at from other schools.”
Weigle played volleyball, basketball, softball (until a knee injury in her sophomore year), 4-H and Stevensville FFa including being chapter officers, secretary and livestock chair.
“If I had one word to describe FFa it would be ‘family,’” she said. “We are just that close knit.”
Her favorite classes are the agriculture electives as her career will be in agriculture.
“I’ve been heavily involved in the ag world since I was two,” Weigle said. “I’m attending montana State University in the fall to study animal Genetics / aI Tech (artificial insemination for livestock) for my major and for my minor I’m studying agricultural Extension. my main focus will be in the cattle industry. I have a full ride [scholarship] so won’t have any student debt coming out in four years.”
She applied for over 150 scholarships and received a Stock Farm scholarship for a student going into the ag industry.
“It’s a $12,000 scholarship for four years, but if you attend in-state they raise it to $24,000 for four years,” Weigle said. “I’ve been an honor roll student since a freshman. I’ve been so busy with FFa and other things that I haven’t been able to join the National Honor Society.”
She has 20 cows and a steer and a heifer that was donated from Northern International Livestock Exposition (NILE) in Billings. She takes her steer and heifer to shows, miniature fairs, and will have them at the Ravalli County Fair this year.
“I am excited for my future,” she said. “I’ll be an
artificial insemination technician in montana which is a job needed in the industry. along with genetics, I can help people get what they want to put back into their herds. my ag extension will also be big. Right now, Ravalli doesn’t have an ag Extension. Since 4-H is such a national and international organization we really need extension agents.”
Principal Larson called Weigle an “awesome young lady.”
“She is a solid student,” Larson said. “Every time you are around her she is smiling and engaging. She has crazy, awesome interpersonal skills that are real. She is hard working. you’d want a hundred of them if you could. She’s a hoot.”

robert Crosbie Victor’s outstanding Senior
MICHELLE MCCONNAHA RepublicVictor High School has selected Robert Crosbie as Outstanding Senior, 2022.
He has attended Victor Schools since Kindergarten so for all 13 years of his education.
Crosbie said he likes Victor High School because of the small size.
“Everyone knows each other and it is a nice little community that everyone helps out with,” he said. “Everything from schoolwork to sports or just everyday tasks in life. If you need a dollar, ‘hey, I got you a dollar.’”
as for participating in extra groups or clubs, Crosbie has focused on athleticism and sports.
“Friendships are made through sports and teachers are willing to stop class to talk about sports,” he said. “I Ta [teacher’s aide] in the middle school and the teachers will comment on a great game that I played or on national sporting events.”
He played football, basketball and track.
“Track is definitely my favorite though, I love Coach Thomas Spencer,” Crosbie said. “I did the
100-meter dash and the 4x1. I’m fast, not far. I have nothing but praise for people who can run more than 200 meters.”
His favorite class to assist with is Native american Science class, taught by Science Educator Charlie Burner.
“I just help out,” Crosbie said. “a lot of middle schoolers like me in general so I do what I can with them. I hope I’m a good influence.”
His favorite class to learn in is medical biology, but his “favorite class of all time” was his chemistry class which he took in the Fall of 2021.
after high school, Crosbie plans to attend the University of montana and study and earn a master’s degree in Bio-Chemistry.
“I plan to stay in montana for my education, I don’t have a career path but am starting out with what I love,” he said. “I feel that Victor is a nice little hidden gem, we get lost in between missoula and Hamilton but I feel there is a lot more to appreciate here than what people see on the outside. I feel like once you get to know the community and landscape it grows on you and you feel at home.”
