Become reacquainted with French artist Bernard Buffet (1928-1999), one of the most well-known and also most controversial artists of the twentieth century, through a retrospective of one hundred lesser-known pieces of his artworks. In addition to his favorite selfportraits and still lifes, the retrospective also includes other themes that he has worked through including religion, literature and prophecies, illustrating Buffet’s appreciation of historical painting, including a large number of symbolic references to death, taken from the Middle Ages, that were included in his paintings made near the end of the artist’s life.

The first retrospective of Chinese-French painter Zao Wou-Ki in the USA, co-organized by the Asia Society and the Colby College Museum of Art. An exhibition of up to 49 works of art including oil paintings, ink paintings, prints and watercolors, spanning across the artist’s career of more than sixty years. The exhibition is called “No Limits”, to not only pay tribute to the artist, but also to reflect the standing of his work, a unique achievement of the integration of Eastern and Western aesthetic characteristics, that can once again be shown to the world.

Walasse Ting was a genre-breaking artist who worked successively in Paris, New York and Amsterdam, and was a forerunner of the internationalization of contemporary Chinese art in the 1990s. In 1970, he donated more 80 paintings to the Cernuschi Museum in Paris. From typical compositions portraying women with botanical bodies, to the green leaf-like pages of a confession book, this collection is intimately intertwined with the subversive identity of the Flower Thief, the imaginary alter ego of the artist.

Exploring the influence of building materials and decoration on the interior design industry from the 1920 s to the 1950 s, there are more than 200 works to re-examine about how we really want to live, including from French architectural master Le Corbusier, known as the “father of functionalism”, Irish architectural master Eileen Gray, and Finnish architectural master Alvar Alto, the “father of Nordic modernism”.

The 2016 exhibition “The Universe and Art” will bring together artwork and imagination of Eastern and Western artists, ancient and contemporary, based on the theme of outer space. Works include Da Vinci’s astronomical manuscript, ancient Japanese scrolls of mythology and astronomical experiments, and even news from the year 1844 in Edo-era Japan about the stranding of a flying saucer. The vast expanse of the universe provides artists with a boundless source of inspiration!

When GUCCI Museo set up two special exhibition halls to display Tom Ford ’ s garments and accessories, it took the fashion community by storm, challenging deeplyrooted traditions in the fashion industry, the definitions and concepts of fashion, and a series of iconic works. It is a tribute to Tom Ford’s self-assurance in expressing himself while he served as creative director in GUCCI, which breathed new life into the fashion brand in modern times.

Late Recognition at Home Having once been hailed as “Picasso’s heir,” critical opinion began to turn against Buffet when André Malraux and much of the establishment all but ostracized the artist during the 60s, and cut off his opportunities for further development in his native country. However, he had always been a much admired artist in other countries, where critics and the general public continued to take a much more favorable view of his work. Back in France, when Picasso died in 1973 , Malraux wrote a gushing biography praising the exceptional achievement of one of the 20 th century ’ s best known artists. But with many of the old guard
