MARASKA TOP by Lena Fedotova
Maraska is an autochthonous type of sour Morello cherry growing on the Dalmatian coast, Croatia. The fruits of maraschino cherries have a taste and flavor of cherries and bitter almonds. The name ‘marasca’ comes from the Italian words “amarasca” and “amaro”, which stem from the Latin word “amārus” (meaning bitter).

CONSTRUCTION
- seamless; - in the round; - from the top down.
The top features a crew neck with a higher back and relaxed fit at the body and sleeves.
STITCH PATTERNS All stitch patterns used in this design are based on the linen (moss) stitch. In the lace section of the yoke, the groups of linen stitches are separated by chain spaces. The textured divider between the lace and solid sections of the yoke is made with the help of post single crochet stitches. The body and sleeves are worked in a plain linen stitch pattern. The edging gains its textured ribbed look with the help of modified front post stitches made over the linen stitch pattern.
CONSTRUCTION - the yoke starts with small “diamonds which gradually enlarge in size; - a textured divider between the lace and linen stitch patterns is the foundation of the different parts of the top: sleeves, front, and back; - raglan increases at four places are worked to the end of the yoke; - extra back rows are made to bring the back neck higher;
- underarm bridges add more stitches to the overall body and sleeve circumference; - the body is worked in the round without extra shaping to the end; - optional decreases on the sleeves, using the additional instructions provided, allow you to make the sleeve narrower toward the cuff, if desired; - sleeve ribbing decreases the cuff circumference.
SLEEVE OPTIONS Maraska top pattern includes directions, as well as yardage requirements for three sleeve options: - short sleeves, which consist of a few rounds and ribbing; - sleeves which are slightly longer than elbow-length sleeves; - full-length sleeves. The length of the sleeves is easily adjustable.
