“Slither” “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn’s horror opus was no slouch when it came to gross-out moments. A man gets split in half, another mutates into a tentacle monster and a woman eats until she explodes. Just another day in horror land.
“Dredd” It might not be a horror film, but this shoot ‘em up showcased so much blood that it deserves a place on this list. From the opening scene, in which
a man’s head melts, to the final villain death — which should not be ruined — this is one bloody good time.
“Evil Dead” Say what you will about remakes, but this reimagining of the horror legend brought gallons of gore to the party. Tongues are split, arms are sawed off and viewers are grossed out.

Five great movies to take you across the Atlantic
For young Salvatore, this is the local theater in his hometown on the Italian coast. Growing up in a time of war, the movies are his constant refuge from the outside world-first as a viewer, then as an employee. The film brings the audience into an ethereal past of love and separation, an archetypal experience that most can understand all too well.
“The Wind That Shakes the Barley” The Irish war for independence has appeared and reappeared for the last century more or less. The initial military endeavors that took place are the highlight of this Palm d’Or Best Film award winner. Following the path of Damien O’Donovan, the characters fight against British oppression during a time when it was all any Irishman knew. Beyond decoration The first thing everyone thinks about when October rolls around is pumpkins and Jack-o-lanterns, but did you know pumpkin is actually a berry? Like sunflower seeds and tomatoes, pumpkins are actually fruit — and just about every part of this amazing fruit can be eaten.
Pumpkin seeds

After carving the pumpkin, don’t discard the seeds. With a little bit of butter, salt, pepper and perhaps a little red pepper for those adventurous types, roasted pumpkin seeds can be made into a nice and easy snack.
Pumpkin pie Yes, pumpkin pie filling can be made from real pumpkins. It doesn’t have
to be bought in a can. All it takes is a hot oven, a food processor, an extra hour and some oil. Of course it won’t have all the processed food, sugary goodness that pumpkin pie has come to epitomize, but it is still good. Everyone smothers pumpkin pie with whipped cream anyway.
Pumpkin bread The least-known edible option for pumpkin leftovers is pumpkin bread. It is a little like zucchini bread or some other gourd-bread, but it can easily be combined with some salted caramel icing and made into a sweet dessert option or breakfast for the sugar addicts. Lattice-topped baked apples Ingredients n 4 Granny Smith apples n 1 can apple pie filling n 1 tablespoon sugar n 1 tablespoon cinnamon n 1 package refrigerated Pills n bury piecrust n 1/4 cup melted butter
Directions 1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit 2. Cut the top off of an apple 3. Scoop out the core so that the apple looks like a little bowl, and repeat with each apple 4. Fill each apple with pie filling 5. Cut the piecrust into 4 by 1/2-inch strips and layer six strips atop each apple to form a lattice pattern 6. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a bowl 7. Brush light coating of melted butter on latticed crust and sprinkle sugar/cinnamon on top 8. The great pumpkin Jack o’ lanterns may be a weird tradition, but they’re a lot of fun to make Jack o’lanterns are such an integral part of Halloween, but no one ever really questions why. Sure, Halloween is full of weird traditions, but what’s the purpose behind gutting pumpkins, carving them and filling them with fire? It’s a strange practice, and it dates back to far longer than expected. There are plenty of legends regarding the creation of jack o’ lanterns, but according to a popular Halloween blog, halloweenlove.com, the origin story of jack o’ lanterns dates back to ancient Irish legends. The legends hold Austin Maas that a thief named Jack Rawr once tricked the devil into promising to never take his soul. Unfortunately, when he died, Jack was refused entry into heaven because of his evil nature. He was forced to wander through the darkness between life and death. In an act of mercy the devil threw Jack a single glowing ember, which Jack then placed in a carved turnip to make a lantern. Thus the name Jack o’ Lantern was born. In an effort to keep the angry spirit of Jack happy and scare away other evil spirits, people would carve pumpkins with frightening images and light them on their doorstep. Carving pumpkins into jack o’ lanterns has become such an integral part of the Halloween season that there are entire TV shows dedicated to it. I remember watching Pumpkin Wars on HGTV and being amazed by the intricate designs the artists would carve. When it comes to carving pumpkins in the 21st century, the bar has officially been raised and geometric shapes carved to look like menacing faces will no longer cut it. But unless your pumpkin is a genuinely terrifying work of art, scary pumpkins just aren’t scary anymore and won’t work either.

Wikel said she took on the task of organizing the event because she wanted to keep the haunted house alive — the tradition, that is. “There was a really big potential that we couldn’t even do it this year because of scheduling conflicts,” Wikel said. “Nobody wanted to do it on a Sunday, especially homecoming Sunday.” When Wikel first participated in the haunted house last year she was disguised as a tour group member, or what she called a “plant.” “I was a plant, so I pretended that I was just some random person who wanted to be in the haunted house,” Wikel said. “We had a couple rooms where they would then grab the plants — I went in with a group

Mike stared down at Karen’s bloody face, frozen in her last scream, as she sunk down to the bottom. Too bad, he thought. She was pretty. Karen crawled across the dirt and leaves as Mike approached her. He stepped on top of her ankle, an audible crack ringing alongside her scream, which was suddenly and quickly silenced. She sprung free from the cabin, running as fast as she could. Further and further through the woods, she ran, her heartbeat accelerating as she heard him chasing her. Haunting the Palouse The Haunted Palouse has been providing frights for Halloween lovers for 13 years Luis Torres Rawr While most haunted houses are created to provide the public with some quality scares, Janet Barstow said Haunted Palouse had a different start. Haunted Palouse, a set of haunted houses located in Palouse, Washington, began in 2002 and Barstow, a UI alumna, said the haunted house was originally a fundraiser with the proceeds going to the Roy Chatters Newspaper &
Printing Museum. Barstow said the goal of the fundraiser was to reopen the museum, which had been damaged during a flood in 1996. Barstow said Haunted Palouse couldn’t have been done without a group of people that has helped the event grow since its inception. “We have a core group of people that has been doing it for the whole time,” Barstow said. “Every year we pick up more and more volunteers, so you have that stability of people who have done it for 13 years.” In order to keep the event fresh, Barstow said they change the theme of the
