FROM THE DIRECTOR This year, we are thrilled to open both pools at the Rose Lane Aquatics Complex and the Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center. Over the past year, many renovations and upgrades have enhanced the swim experience. As summer closes, I want to thank all our lifeguards whose hard work and dedication kept everyone safe. While the pools were full of good times, other parks and recreation team members were busy creating even more opportunities for you and your family to enjoy. Perhaps you’ve played on the new lighted pickleball courts at Foothills Park or benefited from using one of four new restroom buildings. Or maybe you’ve taken your family to enjoy one of the newly replaced playgrounds at one of many parks across the city.

Public Facilities, Recreation & Special Events Mission Statement A partnership of employees and community working together to create a better quality of life for Glendale through the provision of excellent parks, recreational programming, special events, tourism, and neighborhood and community facilities.

Along with improved places to play, your Parks and Recreation staff are working to bring more new and different activities to you such as hiking safety awareness, self-protection, and situational awareness classes. We welcome each of you to sign up for a recreation activity or visit one our 72 parks today!

This course deals with not only situational awareness as a citizen, it also deals with Arizona Law and how it applies to “Use of Force” situations. Both Physical Force, and Deadly Force as defined by Arizona Law. Arizona also has a Castle Doctrine which provides legal protections for citizens inside their vehicles and homes. We are living in a time of increased violent crime and a lot of people moving to Arizona who don't know our state laws. Our state is #2 in national laws that protect its citizens using force, even deadly force. But we also have very strict laws of where you can't take or use firearms. Be informed. Bring valid Drivers License. No weapons or firearms allowed. (Class can be used for AZ CCW Permit.) The instructor is a retired, 39 yr. veteran Phoenix Police Sergeant.
