Are you a leader and a strong swimmer? Get the training you need now to land your summer job! Lifeguarding is a leadership position that provides you skills to handle emergencies in, on, and around water. If you are 15 years old or older, are a good swimmer, and want to teach lifesaving skills – you are on your way to becoming a Lifeguard! Important: Participants must be strong swimmers (Level 4 swimming skills or equivalent), have basic knowledge of, and ability to correctly demonstrate freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, elementary backstroke, and side stroke. There will be a pre-test on the first day of class to test participant skills. Participants must be able to continuously swim 300 yards (100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 of freestyle or breaststroke). They must also swim 20 yards from wall, retrieve a 10-pound brick from at least 7 ft (can be as deep as 12 ft) of water and swim with the brick 20 yards on back to the side of the pool within 1 minute 40 seconds, and tread for 2 minutes using legs only. Please ensure you can pass the pre-test, as there is $50 assessment fee if the pre-test is not passed. This course is in-person at Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center for 28 - 30 hours over one week. Please look at the full schedule online before registering because all class sessions are required. Additionally, there is an online portion that takes approximately 10 hours to complete and is required to be completed off site on your own time. There will be online modules due each day throughout the week during the inperson classroom sessions.

Red Cross Fee : The City of Glendale pays this fee on your behalf. This fee will NOT be reimbursed if you are not hired or if you drop out of class. • There are online modules that must be completed prior to start of class. Participants must attend every scheduled, fulllength class to pass. • No refunds/make-ups can be given for a missed class. • An instruction book is available online. A hard copy loaner may be requested by student once the online class portion begins. • Refunds/credits will NOT be given unless a class is canceled by City of Glendale.
