"Rohini was amazing from start to finish. She showed an genuine interest in getting us into the home we wanted. She never attempted to "sell" us on a home that didn't suite our needs or desires. She is very professional, prompt, polite, courteous, patient, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to buy or sell a home. She was genuinely happy when we found the right home and handed the keys to us. It was a delight to have her as our realtor." – The Beach Family

Help Glendale kids learn, play, grow and just have fun! Consider making a donation to the Glendale Youth Scholarship Fund. More information below.

PUT A LITTLE PLAY IN A KID’S DAY B

GLENDALE’S YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP FUND

eing a kid is defined by one very important thing: playing. Playing house, playing dress-up, playing board games, playing ball and playing tag are all important. Can you imagine childhood without many of those things? The opportunity to play sports and learn skills, like art, music and cooking, among others, is not available to all kids in Glendale. The cost of sports leagues and activities is an obstacle for some families, and the city of Glendale strives to remove that barrier by providing scholarships for those who need it. Based on economic need, families can apply to receive scholarship funds for their children for activities such as those listed above, in a limited capacity for the calendar year. The account is credited so participants can register for classes or leagues through that account, when ready.

Anthony “Tony” Holly, a former Glendale police officer, was very involved in the community, volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters and coaching Little League when he was in the Air Force. He became a police officer to help people in need, and was especially grateful when he could help a child to better his or her life or to assist with getting them to a safer environment. His mother, Nancy Bonner, who runs the foundation in his honor, says “Tony loved to swim! He learned when he was very young, and got so much enjoyment from it. Being born and raised in Arizona, he was very aware of the importance of water safety and… keeping children safe around water. The best way to be safe? Know how to swim! We hope others will join us in donating to Glendale

The donation from the Anthony Holly Foundation goes a long way in helping to make sure all children are able to play, learn, swim, paint, make music and much more; however, more donations are needed – from corporations, nonprofits, individuals and families – to keep scholarships going. To donate, simply do so online at www.glendaleaz.com/parksandrec Or mail a check (made out to City of Glendale Scholarship Fund), to: Glendale Parks and Recreation Department 5970 W. Brown St., Glendale, Arizona 85302

Do you have kids, or do you know of kids who can benefit from Glendale’s Youth Scholarship Program? It’s easy to apply. An application is available online at www.glendaleaz.com/parksandrec Criteria for application approval is consistent with the Department of Economic Security standards. For additional information, you can also call

623-930-2820.

GLENDALEAZ.COM/ACTIVITIESGUIDE | 15

The scholarship account is dependent on fundraising and donations throughout the year. Organizations such as the Anthony Holly Foundation, based here in Glendale, have donated funds to further the cause. Their mission is to “support activities, organizations and facilities that encourage young people to live joyous and meaningful lives and to, in turn, encourage them to improve their families, their communities and their futures.” The donations that the city received from the foundation are earmarked for swim lessons for Glendale children, which helps Parks & Recreation further one of its missions— ensuring all children in Glendale learn to swim.

Parks and Recreation. Recreation teaches children teamwork, helps to keep them healthy, gives them productive choices for their downtime and adds fun to their lives!”
