Mega-Music Star, Juanes, Performs at Ak-Chin Casino by John Stapleton

May 6, music superstar Juanes brought his Origen Tour to Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino. Often seen as one of Latin Rock’s top artists in both sales and influence, with 20 Latin Grammy Awards and over 15 Million Albums sold worldwide, Juanes brought an eclectic mix to the performance. “It was an amazing 2-hour show,” says Lorena Ortega, Maricopa resident. “It was a smaller venue but you really saw his charisma and stage presence. I loved the fact that he paid homage to many of the artists he grew up listening to such as Juan Gabriel, Juan Luis Guerra and he even sang Bob Marley’s iconic song, Could You Be Loved and Metallica’s, Enter Sandman. On another note, it was beautiful to see him connect with his fans by coming out into the audience to perform a couple of songs. It definitely made a lot of the ladies swoon over him. All in all, it was a fun evening. I definitely would see him again.”

22 Pinal NOW! June 2022

“It was my first time seeing Juanes in concert,” says Deidre Carlyle, Carlyle grew up and resides in the Ak-Chin Indian Community. “It was awesome to watch him play on our little reservation. It helps to put our Harrah’s Casino out there and this is

the kind of big-name entertainment they could see.” Carlyle says she also enjoyed Juanes’ engagement with the crowd, to see the “older folks dancing to his music and to see the joy in their faces as if they were young again.”

growing a strong family and using all she learned to bless her community — to be considered for an award named after such an amazing woman leader is an absolute honor.” Liermann serves as a councilmember; she also is a mental health counselor at Maricopa High School, as well the sponsor for the Copa Closet, an organization on the campus that takes in donations such as clothes and food for students in need. “It was surprising, humbling and an incredible honor to be awarded the ‘Sonny Dunn’ Citizen of the Year Award,” Liermann says. “The community made CopaCloset an immediate success because of their generosity. Community members, local business, groups and churches consistently provide food, hygiene products, clothes, shoes, jackets and school supplies for students K through 12th grade. Rocktacular Concert Brings Live Music to CAC by Dan Bush, Entertainment Industry Technology Program Coordinator, Central Arizona College The Rocktacular Concert at the Pence Theater at Central Arizona College’s Signal Peak Campus in Coolidge is a student-run live concert offered for free to the public twice each semester. The latest on was May 4. The concerts showcase students from the performance skills, live audio and concert-lighting classes. They feature a variety of popular music styles ranging from rock to country, rap to folk and EDM to Christian contemporary. Some of the performers played original material and others performed cover songs. The concert acts as a final exam, in which students from the different classes must collaborate as a team to put on a successful event. As part of the assessment, the audience (both live in-person and online via live video stream) leave feedback by submitting an online survey using their phones after each performer finishes their set. The program uses this critical feedback in class to assess where

38 Pinal NOW! June 2022

improvements can be made to improve the performance quality for the next show. The performers are graded on their confidence, comfortability and charisma, as well as technical and musical ability and their responses to such unexpected circumstances as technical difficulties. The Rocktacular Concert has been a staple of the Entertainment Industry Technology (EIT) Program at CAC since 2010. It offers three associate degrees and three certification programs in popular music performance, recording engineering, and live audio and lighting. Graduates have achieved great successes in the music industry, including signing record deals, working in/or opening their own recording studios, working at major record companies, charting in the Billboard charts, going on national tours, launching their own music publishing companies, starting their own performance venues and live sound companies, and working at other great jobs within the music industry.

Eloy Gets Festive with Food Trucks for Cinco by John Stapleton

The Eloy Chamber of Commerce held its first ever Food Truck Fiesta on Cinco De Mayo, right next door to its office at 515 N. Main St. “As the Chamber, we wanted to do something different,” says Andrew Rodriguez, Executive Director. “Since none of the surrounding cities were doing anything, we felt that we wanted to do this event.” Rodriguez says events like this bring the community together with good food while helping local vendors. Event participants included: Tacos ATM, Deadlift Coffee, La Dona Mexicali Taste, Fry’s Kettle Corn, I & C Kitchen, AKA Breads, Dulces Calavera and Big Country’s Cool Down. “It was a great event,” Rodriguez says. “Many of our vendors sold out before it ended, and it was great to see people come from different cities. We plan to host this event every year and from this year’s attendance we will expect

it to grow — especially with new residents coming in.” The Eloy Chamber also is working on future events including a monthly farmers market and annual golf tournament.

Medicare can be difficult to understand, especially if you are just beginning the process. You might be receiving large amounts of mailers and letters regarding your options, and it can be complicated to navigate through. But that’s what we do- we help you quickly understand, and make the right choices. There is never a cost for our advice, and there is no obligation to enroll. Our job is to help you understand, and earn your trust so when you do need a plan, you feel confident working with us!

When it comes to Medicare plans, one size does not fit all. Let us help you make a confident decision. We are licensed Medicare plan specialists, locally focused in Pinal County since 2007. We help educate our clients by answering their questions and providing clarity. We can be as in depth or as concise as you’d like to be, and we are happy to meet in person or by phone. We know ALL the plans in Arizona, and can help you select the right one this year, as well as help you year after year.

If you’re turning 65, or soon to be retiring, we can help you prepare for and understand all the moving parts of Medicare. We provide comprehensive reviews and comparisons of your Medicare options and Social Security benefits, at a free no obligation phone or in-person meeting. Have your questions answered, and understand your health plan options.
